That's the way the game's played. Of course, I usually backstab the wrong person, end up with no allies, and die.

And/or misjudge the likelihood of an ally backstabbing me and get totally wrecked.

    Fall 1904 Retreats

Jackbooted Italian soldati under the command of Generalissimo Visiblehowl crossed the Danube and stormed the city of Vienna, driving Grand Duke Papillon and the Austrian court entourage from the Hofburg Imperial Palace. Observers report that the Grand Duke fled with the last remnants of the imperial honor guard to the Bohemian Forest, pledging to return to reclaim the land of his Hapsburg forefathers again some day. Despite these vows, Italian invaders were swift to bring the city of Vienna under Rome's control, edging out the leadership of the local garbage-collectors' unions and opening a chain of pizzerias across the province. Austria, it would seem, was done for.

Additionally, the outlying Russian army retreated to Silesia under pressure from the fall's combined Turko-Italian assault.

New Current Map: Winter 1904 (Build Phase)

    JPP01-W1904.jpg
Build orders are due no later than 10 PM EST Sunday (Mar 9th).

The next season will start as soon as I hear from everyone with a build / remove order, so you have until the slowest person to respond, or 10 PM Sunday, whichever comes first.
    • Austria: No supply centers, 1 unit. 1 unit must be removed. Game over, thanks to Grand Duke Papillon for his valiant efforts!
    • England: 2 supply centers, 3 units. 1 unit must be removed.
    • France: 5 supply centers, 5 units. No units to build or remove.
    • Germany: 6 supply centers, 6 units. No units to build or remove.
    • Italy: 10 supply centers, 7 units. 3 units may be built.
    • Russia: 5 supply centers, 5 units. No units to build or remove.
    • Turkey: 6 supply centers, 6 units. No units to build or remove.

Reminder to anyone outside of US time zones: it's daylight savings time here, which means not only have I lost an hour of sleep today, but also the 10 PM EST deadline is now one hour earlier for your time zone, unless you follow a similarly silly program of clock-adjusting.

    Spring 1905 Turn Resolution

In this season (I should stress that I have no knowledge of any background negotiations and should not be assumed to accurately portray anyone's motivations or intentions in my narrations) — the Italian onslaught smashes onto Iberian shores. Turkey sieges Moscow. Robo-France and Germany both execute some tricky unit shuffling that I'm not going to pretend to be able to summarize, and England attempts to blockade its own ports.

So, the deadline has come and gone, and I'm still short orders from some of you. I think this was probably my fault, as I wasn't able to do a proper update earlier in the week and was not around earlier in the evening today to send reminder PMs as I often do. A number of players did submit their orders on time and I want to thank them for that. However, I'm going to offer a limited extension of the deadline until Midnight EST in the hopes that late parties will be able to get orders in by then. If not, well, out of respect for those waiting for turn resolution, we'll have to carry on as usual. Thanks for your patience and sorry for the delay.

New Current Map: Winter 1905 (Build Phase)

    JPP01-W1905.jpg
Build orders are due no later than 10 PM EST Sunday (Mar 15th).
    • England: 1 supply center, 2 units. 1 unit must be removed.
    • France: 5 supply centers, 5 units. No units to build or remove.
    • Germany: 6 supply centers, 6 units. No units to build or remove.
    • Italy: 11 supply centers, 10 units. 1 unit may be built.
    • Russia: 4 supply centers, 5 units. 1 unit must be removed.
    • Turkey: 7 supply centers, 6 units. 1 unit may be built.

The next season will start as soon as I hear from everyone with a build / remove order, so you have until the slowest person to respond, or 10 PM Sunday, whichever comes first. There aren't a lot of builds to cover so you should get some extra time to strategize Spring 1906.

    Winter 1905 Builds

I did not receive build / remove orders from some players this season. D: As removals are required, I randomly selected from units furthest from a home supply center. I did not enact any builds for absent players; should they hold their gains till next Winter build phase, they will be able to take advantage of them at that point.

    As ordered:
    • Italy: Builds A ven
    • Russia: Removes F nwy
    • England: Removes F edi

    New Current Map: Spring 1906

    JPP01-F1905B.jpg

Orders for the new season (Spring 1906) will be due 10 PM EST Tuesday (March 18th).

Just a reminder, sending provisional orders in the event that you might not be able to make deadline is highly recommended.

    Spring 1906 Turn Resolution

IMPORTANT BULLETIN: Young Turks oust old guard! Tsar teetering on the brink? and -- A 1907 truce in the offing?

Ok, folks, I haven't seen any sign of Infidel since last Thursday and have not been able to make contact with him outside of the forum either. I hope he's doing ok and that the disruption in his ability to play isn't due to anything seriously bad IRL. Since he has been inactive for more than two seasons in a row now, though, I'm going to have to invoke the bloody revolution rule and call on Mad Jazz to step in as the new Sultan. If we hear back from Infidel soon we might have to come to some arrangement between the two of them but for all intents and purposes Mad Jazz is now ruler of Turkey. Since he has not been privy to any of Turkey's past negotiations, he is at liberty to chart his own course now, and you're welcome to negotiate with him as you like.

Russia has also been late with orders for multiple seasons now. We don't currently have anyone else on the replacement waiting list, but if any observers out there want to sign up for a reserve spot, you will probably gain control of the Tsar's court. TheLawinator, if you're still able and interested in participating, please do so, but I need someone to submit orders or things will grind to a stall like they did in the other games. I hope we won't see that happen.

Generalissimo Visiblehowl is going on spring vacation next week and wants to know if all players would consent to a truce for the entirety of next week. In other words, we will finish out this week as usual, take a week's pause, and then resume play with a deadline of April 1st for Spring 1907 orders. If all other players consent to this break, I have no objections, although I hope everyone's interest in the game still remains high. If everyone else would prefer to keep playing, Visiblehowl may have to find a temporary proxy to act for him during this period.

The French fleet retreated to the Irish Sea. May or may not have a chance to update this post with a map reflecting later this evening that so please note now.

Orders for the Current Season (Fall 1906) Are Due Friday Mar 21st, at 10PM EST

I see we have gotten... no response on the proposed truce for next week. I would really appreciate feedback on this, as would visiblehowl I'm sure, if he's going to have to find a proxy while he's out of the country. Please post your assent / dissent for the idea here in the thread so I can get a sense of what people want to do.

TheLawinator, if you submit orders this coming season, I'll take 'em. But if someone reading this thread steps in and lays a claim to Russia, I'm going to go with whichever option guarantees an active Russia. Your (and any would-be Tsars') call.

With my one remaining fleet, it doesn't really matter to me. I'll postpone things a week for VH's sake.

Edit: Also, any interest in another game once this one concludes?

Yes, PMs would definitely go out when we resume after next week. I've been very grateful for the consistent participation of everyone in the game thus far and don't want to have this lapse just after one week away. Stew_Stick, TheLawinator, do you guys have thoughts?

As for future games, I've enjoyed hosting this, and would certainly be open to doing another game, barring any sudden overloads of my schedule. Obviously that would be dependent on other people wanting to play more games as well. I might give myself a short break before launching into another one, though; if anyone else hosted a game, I'd probably be interested in playing, myself, but might not be able to do both simultaneously. There are some variant maps besides Europe that might be worth trying as well, although I haven't played any and don't know how well balanced they are.

Oh, and don't forget, truce or no truce, orders for February 1906 are due tomorrow at 10 PM EST!
