Orders are due tonight at 10, don't forget! I will be out for most of the evening and probably won't have results up until midnight-ish. It looks like we will have a truce for next week, if Visiblehowl needs to conduct any retreats or builds this weekend Kayne Red Robe will stand in as proxy.

    Fall 1906 Turn Resolution

Europe is in turmoil! Italy completes its conquest of the Iberian peninsula while Turkish armies under the command of a new Sultan deport to Bulgaria. The last bastions of English resistance on the home isles have fallen, but His Majesty's fleet still survives in frozen Norway. Russia recaptures the capital of Moscow while the armies of the German Kaiser lurch southward towards the land of their Austrian kinsmen.

A few retreats are necessary before we continue into the build phase on Sunday. After this we will, as previously mentioned, pause for one week while Visiblehowl is out of the country and away from internet access. I will send you PMs and post in this thread again to remind you, but play will resume with Spring 1907 orders due on Tuesday, April 1st. Visiblehowl should be back to conduct negotiations with by next Friday; you're free to negotiate amongst yourselves during this intervening week, but don't expect a response back from him before then.

Retreat orders are due no later than 10 PM EST Saturday (March 22nd).

Details for the relevant retreating parties should be in PMs you will receive shortly (Kayne Red Robe is Visiblehowl's proxy for retreat decisions). Building will follow immediately after I've received the last retreat order and will end no later than 10 PM Sunday. After builds, we will recess for a week; orders for the Spring 1907 season will be due Tuesday, April 1st. Reminders will be sent. The game is still afoot!

I asked for Norway because I needed it after Turkey stabbed me, you never said anything and it was already taken over by the Germans at the time. I really shouldn't have to ask for territory that isn't yours, but I'm polite.

Yea, I'm real freaking clever. I mean, just look at how I'm doing with Turkey... TOTALLY MY PLAN! And Italy? Playing right into my hands, what with his massive army. The plan is that he'll be bored and not post orders for a few weeks.

About future games, would a complete newbie be welcome? I'd like to try one of these. I've never played Diplomacy, but I think I can do enough research beforehand to advance from Annoying Newbie to Amusingly Incompetent before the game starts.

Absolutely! TheLawinator is playing his first game this game, and this is only Visiblehowl, Gumpy, and Stew_Stick's second I believe -- the links in the OP to the various Diplomacy hobby pages are a good place to read up on strategies. I don't know when exactly the next game will happen — it's hard to predict how long this one will continue for, and I will probably take a few weeks off after it finishes to refresh before hosting another one — but maybe someone else will host one in the interim?

<sigh> Well, orders sent. I guess it's a bit much to expect sympathy from you guys, but it is a bit of a kick in the nuts for all your plans to fall through just because your ally's computer crashed. Oh well.

New Mission: make life as difficult as possible for the remaining players.

You'll find it won't be so easy to take me down, even with three of you against me. I still have a few tricks up my sleeve.

That's been my problem at least once -- I'll attack someone as part of a plan with an ally, only to discover my so-called ally is backstabbing me, and then I find myself with no friends and quickly die.

The one time I played Turkey I found they're in a pretty good defensive position -- it's pretty easy to stall out an attack for a year or two, and hope that one of your attackers will backstab the other.

Sigh. Well, we've got about ten minutes to deadline, perhaps unsurprisingly I am still waiting on three people's orders. On the off chance that they will be in by then, I am going to offer a one-hour extension, till 11 PM EST. If I don't get anything by then, well, you've had over 48 hours notice on this one, and we're just going to jump right into it. Anyone else who has already sent orders is of course also able to send new sets during this extended time. Apologies for the wait.

(Seriously people, send me your orders in advance of the deadline. You can always make last-minute corrections if you come back later and decide you want to change a move, and sending your orders in a timely manner helps ensure JustPlainPavek gets the recommended eight hours of sleep on deadline nights. It is most appreciated!)

Yeah, I know. This will be the last gracious extension of deadlines in this game, I will say.

I should also take this opportunity to note to any viewers out there that we are still taking reserve players, and anyone who signs up as such has a reasonably good chance of seizing themselves a country.

New Current Map: Spring 1907 (Retreat Phase)

    JPP01-S1907R.jpg
Retreat Orders are Due Tomorrow, Wednesday April 3rd, at 10PM EST

Visiblehowl, Trieste is the only retreat destination available, although you do technically have the option of disbanding if you so choose. Please let me know your preference when possible.
ALL PLAYERS, PLEASE CONFIRM YOUR CONTINUED PARTICIPATION IN THIS GAME WITH A POST IN THIS THREAD WITHIN THE NEXT 24 HOURS

Failure to do so will result in my actively recruiting a replacement for you before the Fall 1907 deadline. (Kayne Red Robe, Bliss101, are you still following this?) I think there is still a lot of potential in this game and I don't want to see it slide into neglect for lack of orders. Anyone failing to turn in movement orders promptly on the Fall 1907 deadline (I am going to be waking up at 6:00 AM every Saturday for the foreseeable future, and will not be staying up late to wait for your orders, sorry) should expect to face violent insurrection soon, so why not send in some early provisional orders, just in case?

    REVOLT IN MOTHER RUSSIA!

Red-robed Bolshevik partisans, whose agitation over the past several seasons has contributed to rising popular unrest against the oppressive rule of Tsar TheLawinator, have stormed the Kremlin and seized members of the imperial court hostage. The fate of the Tsar and his family are unknown at this time, but a spokesman for the Bolsheviks proclaimed Comrade Kayne to be the new Premier of Russia. While instability at home has prevented the imperial Russian army from taking to the field of battle for the past season, the introduction of new political commissars to the frontline units is expected to bring the ranks once more back in line. Just where that line will be marching is, as of yet, unknown.
    • Kayne Red Robe is the new leader of Russia and is accepting your PMs now. TheLawinator, thanks for playing and no worries -- it's a game and sometimes our schedules just don't leave time for this stuff. We'll see where Kayne takes Russia in future seasons. Varcayn, thanks for sticking with this despite the long odds.
    • As Visiblehowl mentioned above, the Italian army in Vienna has retreated to Trieste.
    • Gumpy, Mad Jazz, if you could please confirm you're still in the game it would be most appreciated. Anyone else interested in signing on as a reserve in the event that other players need to drop in the future, please let me know.

Bliss101, are you still following this?/QUOTE]

Yeah, I am, but honestly I don't think I'm capable of joining in mid-game. I want to play this, but I'd really like to start from the beginning in my first game.

Ok, fair enough. I am still waiting to hear from Gumpy (who's gotten his orders in consistently and I'm less worried about) and Mad Jazz (who doesn't seem to have been on the site since Monday), but for the time being they are still in control of their respective countries.

I think this calls for a change to my signature, and the usual round of feeling out pm's.
