Galactic Civilizations II! Also known as MOO 2: Two: II
Because I'm a sucker for space strategy games, I now own what turns out to be a perfect carbon copy of Master of Orion 2 with slightly better graphics.
Although, to be honest, I've only played a few levels of the campaign, so there could be some new material here.
Can anyone tell me if there's something worth keeping this game for? The campaign so far is terrible, and the sandbox mode, while potentially lots of fun, is it any different from the one I already own?
I have heard that the expansion packs add a lot to it. I haven't bought them yet because I have had other things I have wanted to spend my money on. But how are you playing the sandbox mode? I never bothered with the campaign because i just wasn't that good as a human.
The campaign is rather blah, but overall I really dig GalCiv2. Yes, it is a rehash of MOO2...but that's a very good thing. You get a nice mixture of possible strategies, the diplomatic options are actually useful, the ship creation is fun.
The first expansion adds different planet types (radioactive and such) that slow down the early colony boom, which may not be your cup of tea. Also a couple new races, mega-events, race-specific abilities. The second expansion will be out sometime, God only knows when. There have been a couple betas. I've read something about race-specific tech trees, which could be very interesting.
