Hey guys, semi lurker here, first post etc... I'd be interested in playing with you guys if that's cool, dunno if it's cool to just hop in the server or what. I suck pretty bad but I'd at least make you feel better about yourselves. Just kinda looking for a community to play with, and a co-worker of mine posts here some and said you guys are a good group of gamers. I've been playing a lot more recently as I've all but retired from WoW.
I've been doing other stuff lately: Bioshock, Gears of War, setting up my delicious new projector and screen and HTPC. I still need to finish Company of Heroes and Call of Duty 4 and Smash Brawl. But I hope to be back at some point.
As for PAX, I signed up for the BYOC the past two years and barely ever used it. It's really tempting to do it this year with the promise of TF2 shenanigans, but I fear that most of my time will be spent going to panels and dev talks and all that jazz. However if they set up a TF2 tourney this year, I am definitely in for that.

I'm the same. I'll sign up for a 3-day badge, but before the BYOC signups roll around, we should find an official way to figure out who here can participate in a BYOC TF2 gibfest. That way, we don't end up with like 3 people ready to play and no one else did BYOC.
Even if few people BYOC, there are freeplay PCs there that will have TF2 on them. Thus, it's a matter of being there at the same time, as there will be hardware available.
Dear god, just finished catching up on reading these posts. Don't read them for a day and it takes forever. You people post too much.
And Job... your server is being weird. It doesn't wait for players, goes right to setup. Also, I think its insta-spawn, and on dustbowl it just kept playing the first one over and over. I want the 3rd one. It is epic. Best map ever. I think those are the three things I've noticed, but they've been like that for a while. But no one ever says anything because they are too busy killing one another to remember for very long.
Proof I used to be a damn scary demo man. And yes, thats from a real game. Against an incredibly stupid team. They kept trying to rush out of the trench on Dustbowl map 2, and I kept stickying it. For 40 fucking kills, and 8 dominations. It was very sad.
All my medic stats, however, have been set on the PA server. So proof that I'm currently a scary medic.
Also, Tyrannus kills me too much. Even when I'm on his team. He took that medpac on purpose, he wanted me to burn. Don't believe him when he says he loves you, it only means he loves killing you!
We're uh...at the end of the month. Unless they have some news tomorrow about an update Friday, it's unlikely we'll see it before March.

Althouogh, apparently this week on GameTrailers TV, they're doing a interview segment at Valve, and "unveiling a new map"... dunno if it's going to be Goldrush or something else...

I get the best ping on the West Coast server but often don't go there because I can't download the maps straight from the server, like HonC.

I think it'd be awesome to get a full game on that CTF Skyscraper, like actually have people defending and people who are actually good a rocket/sticky jumping going after the flag.
In a serious game, I can't imagine the spy being all that useful as everybody on each team will be on Vent or what have you and they quickly can confirm positions.
In a serious match its down to a guy switching to spy and backstabbing half the enemy team in a moment of isolated glory. The rest of the match is spent in obscurity unless they do something else.

Agreed, I arrived too late when the folks where actually playing Skyscraper and all left. Ended up playing with only a friend to test it out. I can see with even a half empty game, it would still be entertaining.

I'd think that the very rareness of spies in serious matches means that someone can play whatever class they need to and then switch to spy occasionally for a life or two. They probably wouldn't expect the spy at all due to their supposed uselessness, and after a good run, switch back to whatever class the spy was before. Now they're actively spy-checking when there are no spies to check. Make 'em paranoid and all.

In terms of tagging Snipers and Sapping Turrets long enough for someone else to come in and kill them have their moments, but staying a spy the entire match does not help. To get rid of a Engy/Sniper here or there, or as stated before "The medic with full uber", sure. Beyond that, don't really see much use. Unless you're a spy that can kill 2-3 people each tag and get away safely, in a serious game don't bother.

It's a newbie friendly zone, some really brutal players mix with the rest and everyone gets along like snow tires in may.
I know of the SE++ server, but are there any other official/inofficial and good crazymap servers out there?

6v6 - 2 scouts, 2 soldiers, 1 demo, 1 medic. sometimes a pyro/heavy on some maps but that's usually the layout.
