So the search isn't working for some reason right now so I wanted to ask you guys about this.
My girlfriend and I will be moving in together in the next month. Very exciting times for the both of us since we've been talking about doing this for over a year now. We both live with roommates right now and have bills in our names at each apartment (ie: electric, gas, internet).
My question is, my current roommates are staying at my apartment. I have the electric bill in my name. Do I have to turn off my electric at my apartment and have one of my roommates turn on the electric the same day when I move? Can I transfer accounts to someone else's name?
I know that with the internet/cable, I can tell them I'm moving and I just take the stuff with me to the new apartment but is it the same with electric and gas? Will I have to transfer my account to someone else in my old apartment and open a new account at my new apartment?
Sorry if it's confusing :-/

It depends on your utility, if you're staying in the same city, etc.
Generally, what will probably happens is that you'll call, say you're moving, and they'll close your old account and open a new one at your new address. Your old roommates will need to make arrangements to open a new account at your existing residence.
If you call them and tell them what's happening, you may be able to have your roommate get the bill switched into their name without closing/reopening the account. Depends on the company though, as many are moving to a more person-based rather than address-based account, so they may just move your account with you and make someone else at your current place open a new account.
It completely depends on how they handle it, so you'll really just need to call each utility and tell them what's happening and see how they want to deal with it. It's usually fairly painless in any event.
