That costume was because they were trying to break away from the 'peter parker' spider-man and go on with the ben reaily spidey. EDIT: which is why it lasted so long then went back.

Do the Ben Riley costumes even count, thats someone else. And Ben's Spider-man outfit was barely more dramatic a change than Spidey dropping the armpit webs.

    It counts.
Before they decided to retcon it "Ben Reilly" was Peter Parker.

Okay, someone explain this to me.

The first issue of Peter Parker Spider-Man, right? The one where Ben/Peter/whatever reminisces about his past, and is about to burn his costume and stuff. MJ comes out to talk with him and he's pregnant. He reminisces that he found out that HE was actually the clone, and he wonders how the real Peter would have fared. MJ says she doesn't care... b/c, well uh, the clone stuff started before MJ met Peter/Ben/Whatever, right?

Uhhh. So was that the real Spider-Man in that issue, or not?

The Peter who thought he was the clone ended up being the "real" Spider-Man afterall.

I don't see this suit even lasting as long as the black suit, just until Marvel can no longer convince themselves that fans are going to like this.

ok the way Im looking at it is that the suit is a plot point (tony + spider = <3), so once the plot is over he'll probably go back to ol' faithful OR that bad ass bomber jacket puppy from Happy Birthday

Since the Quesada comic-con spidey w/ new suit surfaced I have really been changed from a "holy hell this is the worst idea ever" to "it actually looks like it can flow amazingly well and I like the color scheme now". The Quesada drawing completely changed my mind, almost a complete 180 reversal.

edit: I really do hate sounding like a rabid fanboy even though I am one. It's just... why do we need to do this? Spider-Man is already recognizable, popular, and interesting. Do we need to fuck with his status quo every couple of years? Does he need a clone or a new costume or a girlfriend change every other time there's a big crossover? I don't get it.

Because without at least a hint of change, there's a chance that the character and franchise can grow stale. Even if the 'change' is bad, it's still good in that we remember why we appreciate the character since they were created. Just another turn of New Coke/Coca-Cola Classic.

sometimes i dream that he's mended the bridge and has alan moore writing comics again. when I become EiC, that's the first thing I'm doing. I don't care if it's in twenty years and alan is pushing 80, I would do whatever it took to get him back. I'd hand him whatever franchise he wanted on a silver platter. he could have pete go crazy and rape aunt may, for all I care, as long as his name is on a marvel book.

See here is the wierd thing, i dont remember where i read it, but one of the first acts that Quesada did was to make amends with Moore for what happenin the past. Now in this same artical , i remember readingthat ALan Moore even said that that sahowed how great Quesada was gonna be for marvel because of this act. And with some one like him in charge he might think about working with marvel again, but he left that comment kinda open ended.

Marvel botched it. The original enmity between Moore and Marvel was because Marvel was reprinting Moore's Captain Marvel work without informing him (or, I think, paying him reprint wages). Quesada fixed things up, but the 1st printing of the most recent Alan Moore/Alan Davis Captain Britain trade didn't credit Moore at all, due apparently to a printer's error.

Moore took it personally and formally cut all ties with Marvel. So there you have it, 5 pages later.

Has anyone thought that maybe the suit gives him more powers? like enchanced strength, or maybe some form of weaponry? Imagine Spideywith all of his regular powers, plus repulsor rays, the uni-beam, and an energy shield.

No, Moore didn't like Marvel at first because Marvel bitched about Marvelman being called Marvelman, and threatened to sue if it were brought out in the US with that name, so it was changed to Miracle Man.

and some other stupid costume/plot idea will take its place. Marvel is clearly trying to change Spidey. I expect a major change, and the launch of a new Spider-Man comic where it's totally out continuity, but it's traditional Spidey.

It does look better in that remake posted in blue and red. We have to remember tho, the colors chosen here seem like they are going to play a part in upcoming event and the relationship between Iron Man and Spiderman. I'm wondering what tricks it will present. Probably a stealth mode of some kind, and an increase on his already growing powers. Any word on Peters new abilities since the change?

Spidey is iconic. Bitch all you want*not you, specifically, Knob* about "stagnation" and "change is good", but he's the same as Superman, Batman, or the Hulk. No matter what changes, there's not gonna be any huge, life-altering thing that permanently changes how they look unless it's simply making it cleaner/more modern.

Spider-mans red and blue tights are pretty much how you know Spidey.

Also: Azrael, I think you mean Mac Gargon. Unless there is a Matt Gangan and I look like a tremendous asshole for assuming you meant Scorpions alter-ego.

Eddie Brock got cancer or something and died and Venom moved on to Scorpion.

    Or something.

    Not quite.

[spoiler:5aa7202e07]It happened during the 12-part opening story-arc for MK-SM. Brock, who was dying, had seen 'The Passion' and decided to auction off the Venom suit to criminals so he could donate the money he got to charity. At first it went to the son of a crime-boss Spidey's tangled with before (name escapes me at the moment). As the new Venom, the son went on a tear at a reunion at Peter's high-school, looking for him. Spidey managed to beat on him enough for the symbiote to decide he was paired up with a loser and left the poor sap during a mid-air escape attempt, letting the guy drop and splat on the ground. Later on, as Scorpion was suiting up for an ambush set up by Osborn, the symbiote came in and convinced him to 'trade up' basically. As for Brock, he was found with his wrists slit open. He's SUPPOSEDLLY dead but it's not stated in the issue with 100% certainty.[/spoiler:5aa7202e07]

I havent read a Spiderman comic in ages, but I'm going to pick up this series. So I suppose I'm Marvels target audience for this series.

So technically, this is all my fault.
