so my computer has decided to attack me with its annoying anguishing error messages

on startup, when clicking my profile (after a short attempt at a load)

DETAIL - An I/O operation initiated by the registry failed unrecoverably. The registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that contain the system's image of the registry.

says to contact the administrator if that persists

but that's me so...

I think this might be related to the fact my computer has been trying to do a weird update thing for a few weeks, I go to turn it off, when i select "turn off", it goes to installing some updates. Every time.

It either finishes them or freezes and I have to hard reset unless I select the "turn off without installing" option.

I don;t think hard resetting maybe 6 times in 2 weeks has destroyed my registry, so anyone wanna help?

Windows XP

A system restore has fixed my deleted profile issue but I'm still concerned about the repeated install attempts
