Blech. I saw this thread and the game sounded interesting so I checked out that old thread and figured it sounded like a good buy. I checked gamestop.com's game tracker thing and it said one nearby had it, but after a call, I discovered they did not. I doubt it would have mattered much though since he was the only guy I called who instantly knew what game I was talking about so I figure they've received several calls. The next closest one is in Chelsea commons, and I suppose I could get it there next time I'm in the area. The one after that was in Rhode Island (!). There's probably like 3 copies total in all of New England.
I think I might just buy one of the overpriced ones on amazon. The cheapest one is $35 which is probably about where I stop for DS games.
I did end up ordering the first one. I'm on the wyvern floor and my part has been PLMST. I'm getting tired of samey enemies and having to repeat floors to get back to where I was, but every time I start playing the game, large swaths of free time disappear.

I better update this OP, shouldn't I?
Edit - I'm such a hack, all I've got is the USA release date.
I never thought the DS would be the go-to place for dungeon crawls...
no more messing with ascii icons for me!
There is a DS port of Crawl, although I don't think it's the Stone Soup version. There's also POWDER. So, just because you're on the DS, doesn't mean you can't have your ASCII.

Yeah, and it was quite a chore to do because I managed to get wrapped up in WoW again. Though, by finish, I mean I beat the 25th floor's boss but haven't done the next few floors.

Or is he just not respawning because of I have to buy that expensive-ass staff first, so the game doesn't need to worry about whether or not he'll drop a Royal Mane?

14 days, have to make it to the second to last or last floor of the stratum after the boss to get them to respawn.

Ah.
That second bit must be it.
I've only made it down to 14 at the moment.
It was starting to bug me because I just fought the floor 12 boss again, and I KNOW I killed Cernunos before it (obviously).
Here's a dumb question: Can I equip things without going into the labyrinth? Didn't see an option in the guild setup place.
Can't you just bring up the status menu anywhere in town like you would in the labyrinth? If not, I'm pretty sure you can do it in Shilleka's store, at least.
The sixth stratum takes you by the ball hairs previously grown by becoming a man from beating the regular game and rips them off slowly, takes the rest off with a thousand thousand raw paper cuts, and rubs the newly shorn ballsack with sulfuric acid while playing bad Europop in the background.

thank you.

I just restarted the first game, so as I can hopefully beat it before the sequel comes out.
Things are going great so far, cleared out all the Rapelopes on the 2nd floor without any casualties so I felt pretty good about that.
I'm playing PL/MAT.
So any of you scrubs who haven't finished the first game (like me)... GET TO IT.
Tell me.
F O E! F O E!

And judging from the barrier that stopped me halfway through B30, I've got nothing to look forward to now but a lot of grinding.
B29 was tough, but once I figured out the pattern, it was just a matter of trial and error.

Finally made it to the 3rd Stratum.
Boss of the 2nd was a joke. He did a total of 10 damage to my party.
And he dropped his rare drop right away, so that was pretty awesome.
Back to work then. :P
I just had a single battle on B12 where I fought no less than 10 FOEs.
2500 exp was pretty nice, though.
But man, holy crap...
I swear the thing was mocking me.
Preempted it, then it did a debuff spell, then another debuff(during which I did about 10% damage), then it brought the pain.
5,300 damage all around.
I've got a long way to go to being ready for that nightmare.
If you find the other thread I basically spelled out how to never ever ever lose to the Wyrm and Drake. I might have done Dragon as well.
I wasn't worried about it before, since I figured it was optional.
I didn't think B30 would make it mandatory.
Then again, from what I've heard about Primevil, I'd better fight them just for practice.
Primevil is just the Wyrm, only you can only use one buff and he can OHKO you that you can't prevent.
Also it took me nearly 30 tries to write down his pattern.
even with the fountain.

I wanted to see what all the hubbub was about.
Holy crap... so much better than my Alchemist.
He does about as much damage or more than my Axesknecht, too. Well... at least until I can afford that Meteor Axe. :P
Now to explore those last few floors.
I'm getting really excited for the second game now.
Well, it's not that bad, but it's pretty high up there.
What terrifies me is thinking of what they did to make the sequel's optional stratum worse.
The sixth is where the game goes from exploring the wonders of nature to
Sixth Stratum is not.
It can't be that bad.
I guess I'll find out tomorrow.
B26F made me go back to playing Crawl.
Ahahahahaaha. It took me nearly a month to get one Ice Scale.
It only took me another three hours to get my second shinryu sword.

Agreed (somewhat), but I meant in terms of atmosphere.
You, sir, are awesome.
