So I've recently been entertaining an idea to do a kind of spur-of-the-moment Spring Break trip to the Monterey, CA area, leaving from the Detroit area, during March 2nd through the 9th, for an unknown number of days (3 or 4 at least). Anyone have any good ideas for interesting events to pursue once I arrive there, and the best possible logistics involved in making something like this feasible, as far as air travel and hotels?
I checked through NWA.com and couldn't find shit, but found a round trip off Travelocity departing the 2nd at 11:15am from DTW and arriving at 3:30pm in Oakland and coming back the 6th at 4:10PM at Oakland and arriving back at DTW at 1:35am the following day. Would Oakland even be my best best for this? LAX seems too far, and San Fran didn't have much in the way of flights...
As a note, this whole thing is a terrible, terrible idea, but I'm infatuated with it nonetheless. I've never been on a spring break trip in my life, the two trips I've taken out of state in my life were Disneyworld when I was 10 and Vegas over the summer, both with the company of my parents (I'm 19, now, by the way). There's a bit of a longer story to this, and I'll go into tomorrow it if someone is interested; it's sort of a suprise trip to visit somebody I know there. All in all, I don't see it working out considering the implications of informing my parents and all that, plus the costs, but one can dream, eh? It's 4am and I just wanted to satisfy my curiousity. Thanks guys!

SFO or san jose airports will both be closer, though any way it's going to be a long trip - do you have a plan for getting to monterey from the airport?
Actually, Oakland International and SFO are pretty much equadistant from Monterey as far as driving goes (like within a mile or two for an over 100 mile drive). San Jose would be a more ideal airport if you can get a flight there.
If the above posters are correct and this is to go visit a girl or something like that, I guess my suggestion would be to find out if you could get her to come up to San Francisco for a weekend or something, which is way easier to access, easier to get around, and has lots more to do. I guess that would be less of a surprise though.
