Warcraft 3: Mods

So, after taking forever to find a game that my girlfriend would actually enjoy that was playable on both a 2 year-old G4 iBook and my gaming PC, I finally settled in on WC3. She enjoys it quite a bit, and even though I suck horribly, it can be kinda fun.

I remember some pretty cool mods being out for this years ago, though. One of them played like a Gauntlet clone. Another was a giant co-op RPGish map, and then there were a few others...

I'm a bit at a loss for what I'm searching for. Googling for "warcraft mods" doesn't return many useful results, and searching the PA forums for that WC3 thread that was here a few weeks/couple months ago is yielding this.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

Warcraft III doesn't actually have mods per-se in the same way that other games use them. Mods generally refer to persistent modifications of a game's functionality. An example being Dawn of War's mods which add in new races, fundamentally alter balance, or change the size and scale of gameplay. Another would be modding for Galactic Civilizations which frequently change how upgrades and races work.

Warcraft III doesn't have mods that permanently stay on in the same way. In order to play a 'modded' WC3 game you would play a map that has a different ruleset than others. And that modification would only be active while you played that map.

So, if you're looking for WC3 mods, you should instead look for custom WC3 maps. The most popular by far is DOTA although Tower Defense and Hero Modsare common as well. Oh, and stay away from anything that has Final Fantasy or Dragonball Z in it. They are universally crap.
Edit: I highly reccomend SWAT (or SWAT vs Resident Evil) and NOTD : Aftermath. They are some of the more balanced and better custom maps. Both are cooperative against zombies.

My friends and I play SWAT: Aftermath mostly every night. It's a hero map with objectives, to say it lightly. You have customizable heroes that level up and there's even a nifty code manager program on the site. It's all zombie themed and done VERY well. Check it out; I highly recommend it.

Edit: You also need Frozen Throne, though...

Well, there's Project Revolution, which is basically StarCraft in the Warcraft III engine. You need original copies of all the Warcraft III / StarCraft games though.

It's just a demo yet too...
