Well - I was stuck in the training. Only at the END does it say thrust FORWARD not a thrust to the side, as the graphic indicated. I think I would have liked this game A LOT more with a gamecube controller and might actually look for one. Theres just a few annoyances that have me ready to toss the damn thing in the trash -
I mean this joust - why give me the instructions like a half second before impact. I get it, they were pretty obvious after the fact, but how I am I supposed to know this? Or the Goron throw. I nearly went through my health before I said "f this" and hopped on Gamefaqs and saw what I was supposed to do (which was not intuitive at all).
I'm trying to like it, but part of me is just say "f this - go play Super Mario Galaxy".
Bleh, sorry for the lazyness on my end, but here is the second half of the TP intro video. Real life sucks, and I've been distracted. I'm gonna have to record at a lower quality to split up for DM because I'm sick of Google only taking chunks of the video instead of the whole thing, and Viemo's weekly limits gets kinda annoying to work with...
I have a dilemma. My friend is selling his laptop (or sold, I'm not really sure of the status), the one he's been lending to me, so I'm back at square one. He's mentioned some alternatives, but I have no idea how those will work out. I could pony up and buy a new laptop, but I probably don't have enough expendable cash to buy something worthwhile.
In the meantime, I can post part b of the second episode. I mentioned it before, but there is a slight desynchronizing problem with the audio/video. I'll try messing with it whenever I get some free time, but that's about all I can offer right now. I'm not sure when my next update will be. Everyone seems to be coping well anyway :P
Google video for now, but I just noticed they resized my video to 320x240. This is unacceptable, but I have little other idea what to do with a 1 GB, 3-hour video. DocHolliday's host seems like it may be worthwhile, so I may try to set up my own streaming solution on that in the near future for these LPs.
Oh, and yes, you read the above correctly. This video is extremely long. It is unedited and uncut, except for before the beginning when I refilled my stock of fairies. The first half of the video is doing what everyone does in the water temple - finding all but that one key and getting stuck. The last half is just because this temple is probably the biggest one yet. Unless you're really set to suffer with me, I'd just skip to around the 1:30 mark after I get the first set of keys and then skip around that after that.

Um, I did. It skilled the skulltulla but didn't trip the switch.

Definitely a fully charged spin.
Shit, it disturbs me that I know which room you mean, how to solve it, and possibly how to reach it. Just from reading "Skulltula gate" on.
I once got a call from a friend stuck in that dungeon, and I ended up walking him through it over the phone.
I question my good judgment and common sense, ASim, but I have just finished watching your behemoth of a video. I'm glad that there was a quote following your line about what Morpha reminded you of...otherwise, I'd have been left wondering what amoebas had to do with The Grapes of Wrath.
Water, water, everywhere,
And all the boards did shrink;
Water, water, everywhere,
Nor any drop to drink.
Yeah, I know. I guess I was kind of vague there - I was actually referring to when you said during the boss that it reminded you of the brain from Futurama. With all the noise right then, it sounded like you'd said it reminded you of The Grapes Of Wrath. I dunno, it probably seemed funnier to me than it actually is.
EDIT: Oops, didn't notice you'd already figured out what I meant in your edit. XD
As a general player tip to everyone: why don't you guys ever use the Jump Attack? I've noticed it with almost every video I've watched. To a lesser extent, the same thing applies to Trus and the Spin Attack, but that's less useful so I'm prepared to ignore that. The Jump Attack does twice normal damage, folks, and it's great when you've only got a limited chance to hit something (most notably boss fights.) As an added bonus, it looks really cool.
Concerning Twilight Princess: I've only played through the game a few times, so I haven't built up too many protips yet. I do have a couple, however. First, make sure you've got 80 Rupees before the second dungeon, because there's something you'll find useful back at Kakariko for that price. In the first dungeon, remember that you can roll into Totem Poles to knock useful things off the top. (That one took me quite a while.)
ASimPerson, I'm curious to see how you handled the Water Temple's miniboss, since there's so many ways to do it. Unfortunately, I'll have to find some time to sit down and watch that.
Finally, I'll get around to posting my next video tomorrow probably. After recording it, I managed to turn off the game before I remembered to save, so I'm looking forward to replaying all that. At least it'll go a lot faster (you'll see what I mean when you watch, let's just say I didn't optimize my route.)

Anyway, I'm sending you a PM in the near future to talk about that guest commentary gig.

Some of us actually have a sense of storytelling and enjoy the dramatic tension of a real fight. Watching a major boss die to two jump attacks from the Biggoron's Sword is just boring.

I haven't watched yet, but
the Biggoron's Sword works really well there, arguably too well. Though, keeping with my statement above, I very much enjoy a standard swordfight with the Master Sword. Tough as nails to get right, but oh so satisfying when you do.
Pre-posting edit: Just skipped ahead to the miniboss and saw
you did do it the down and (very)dirty way, obviously because you're still stuck with that metallurgical abortion known as the Giant's Knife. I commend you, though it be a very messy fight.

I spam the jump attack like nobody's business. You'll get to see it in my next video, but that's mostly how I deal with Wolfos.

It takes more than *two* jump attacks to kill any boss except for the White Wolfos in Ice Cavern, but he dies in a single sword swing anyway if you attack his tail so he doesn't count. It seems that I, like most normal people, understand what it would be like to be in Link's Kokiri Boots. I know if I were in a life-and-death battle with an ancient, man-eating dragon or a phantom King of Evil that I'd certainly try to kill it as fast as possible and minimize the chance that the enemy would figure out my strategy and stop popping his head out of a hole and wait for me to bash his head in or stop throwing slow-moving magical spheres I can easily send back his way with a swipe of my sword.
I mean, face it. If you were Volvagia, would you really keep sticking your head out after the first time? Of course you wouldn't. Maybe Volvagia ends up doing so several times because when Link hits him with the hammer it causes limited amnesia, but you can't count on that every time!

Yeah, I would've done that to the boss, but I couldn't see what I was doing, so I played it safe. Cue "waa waa Windows Movie Maker sux at capturing video wah".
I do jump at other enemies though, but often I miss. Yeah.
I maintain that the spin attack sucks. If it has sucked in every 3d Zelda game it must suck in every Zelda game. I do however, whore the jump attack 8-)
If Google Video wants to stop being dumb my next video should be up today.

The spin attack only sucks if you charge your sword in order to use it, but it's pretty good if you just spin the stick and press B.

The spin attack is fuckawesome in Twilight Princess, moreso if you get the final hidden attack.
If you think differently then you are a stupid face who likes to kill dozens of rats one at a time. Which is stupid. Also it's strong. Also in the Cave of Ordeals when you're fighting 3 Iron Knights you can roll in between all of them, spin and hit one and likely two, opening them for more attacks, making the entire battle way easier.
So in summary, the spin attack is awesome in every 3d zelda, less in 2d zeldas and if you think differently then you probably played the game wrong.
The suggestion I gave you that you talk about was misinterpreted. It was actually supposed to help you in that room with the 4 chests where you ended up dying and using one of your fairies. You see, if you hold your spin attack, Link will deflect attacks to the side his shield is on, whereas otherwise he deflects forward attacks in his normal position. It doesn't matter much though, as you got through without much trouble.
Oh, and "penultimate" means second to last, not last. I wasn't going to say anything, but then you went and used it again a second time. Anyway, congratulations on clearing the penultimate dungeon. The boss would've been harder, but you got the Golden Sword early (I thought you were supposed to get it after Turtle Rock, but it seems I was wrong.)

Well, mister smartypants...I don't care for your "words" and the proper use there of.
This talk how is from I come
I don't think I use Penultimate in my next video, but I probably do...
You're both wrong. "Penultimate" refers to that one, inexplicably smoothly-writing pen each person has, often found somewhere (like inside a piano) and frustratingly unavailable for sale upon research. A person, for this reason, tends to jealously guard their penultimate against borrowers and the like.
So...is anyone going to do an LP of The Legend of Zelda? I know Mushroom Pie is written down as wanting to do it, but upon reading the first few pages of the thread (I didn't start looking at this thread until much later) it appears that he wasn't able to record at all. Is he still trying or will someone else eventually do it?
It's just a shame that There's a LoZ LP thread that is still lacking the original game.
In addition, I feel that this thread should incorporate the cartoon more, somehow.

I've been woefully undercut in ability to use the cartoon, as Zelda is incapacitated within the first ten minutes of Minish Cap and not revived until the end. Oh, and she's... you know... nonexistent in Link's Awakening. But don't worry, I've yet to play my trump card. When it comes, you'll know it.
...Yeah, I'm just going to say a grossly exaggerated "Excuse me, princess" when she's revived.
Any objections? I of course have never really played it, so I'd be going through pretty much blind. I've watched it being played, but I don't really remember anything about it. I'll be able to start soon enough if everything goes ok with programs and such.

I suggest praying to the ancestors for aid. Or, beating that, GameFAQs.
Because, as Zelda 2 clearly demonstrated, games in those days were made to sell NP subscriptions. So I, for one, won't begrudge you a guide.

Nintendo Power was cheap as shit in those days, full color with zero ads. It was sold for cost at the most, probably sold for a loss. It was there to sell the games, and it did a very good job of it.

Bah, there's like one truly hidden thing in the original Zelda (well...in the first quest anyway). The 7th (?) dungeon is a pain to get to, otherwise they're all not too bad to find.
The one under the bush.

Self-righteousness is incompatible with coalition building.
Based on my bit of a practice of it I did today, I think I'll have sufficient enough trouble finding the damn dungeons, thank you.
I loved getting Nintendo Power back in the day. I still have a giant stack of old issues dating back to the first one. Well, the first actual issue, I don't have any of the fan club magazine ones. I think the actual first Nintendo Power was released about a year after the first Zelda, so it was never even really in the magazine. NP did a lot of fun things back then, the four issues of strategy guides, the comics...
!!!
That's what this thread needs, the LttP comic from Nintendo Power! I wonder if it can be found on the internet somewhere...

They had awesome covers too. I still remember the first issue being a cool claymation type set of Mario jumping on mushrooms. Hi5! Man I wish I hadn't lost all my issues.

Was it 12 chapters? If so, I think I may have it sitting here on my hard drive. According to the readme.txt I have with it, I grabbed it from Zelda Power, but it's currently down. Not sure if it's really temporary or permanent.
I've also got something I've labelled... uhhh.. "Valiant Comic" (maybe they drew it?), also from that site.
I actually own the LttP comic. It has the Turtle Rock boss on the cover and Link is standing on a cliff. I found it in a used bookstore when I was like 5 and I knew I had to have it. I also picked up a Mario comic book as well.

Yeah, that should be it. Though I did find it on this site here http://zs.ffshrine.org/link-to-the-past/manga.php. Warning: Minor variations equates to adding completely new characters and plot scenarios, though it's still an entertaining read. Also done by the manga artist behind such hits as Cyborg 009 and probably other stuff.

Yeah, they had pretty sweet covers for awhile, although that first cover's Mario didn't exactly have the proper color scheme...oh well.

Neat. Was the Mario comic the one that had all of Bowser's kid and then Luigi eventually dressed up like Princess Peach, possibly for the first time? If so, that was also in Nintendo Power. There was also one with Wario.
