So long as its on the cell phone, I can and will hate it. This hate extends to Square-Enix as a whole until they port all of their cell phone games to the DS or PSP or if they announce Chrono Break for one of the three consoles. Until then, my boycott of S-E and their milked game franchises shall continue.

So, you hate Square for releasing sequels to old games and will not stop hating them until they....release a sequel to an old game?

    O_o

No, he hates the cell phone idea.

Well, he says "boycott of their milked game franchises" which seems to imply that he hates that too.

It's a love-hate thing. I don't mind the occasional sequel (Such as this game). In fact, I think it's kind of cool. But, when they do things like the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII or Fabula Nobilis Crystal Final Fantasy XIII. . .that's when it crosses the line. Especially since there's a game from each of those "series" that we'll never get to see (Before Crisis from the former and FF Agito XIII from the latter).

What's the point of these series if we can't even see the whole thing? Sure, the Japanese do, but other countries exist outside of Japan that would buy these like hotcakes.

Something they began to rectify over the years. Now it's ok for them to go back and do the same thing? Seems like a backwards philosophy, don't you think?

How hard could it possibly be to release these cellphone games in some form...any form, to the United States? Surely the faithful Final Fantasy fans of the West, even the heathen non-US countries, deserve it.

I don't know if this is more depressing or alarming.

The saddest thing is, I read a while back that the market outside of Japan is significantly larger than the market in Japan. Given that FF sells ridiculously well, and given the lol development costs of a 2d game, I just can not fathom why this isn't on the DS. Especially given that there are hundreds of millions of DS handhelds worldwide. I get a lot of SE's moves from a business perspective, from making a major character modeled off of a pop star, to that atrocious FF spirits within movie, sinking development costs and time to an MMO and the necessary X-2. But this boggles my mind.

As far as the PS1/SNES era Square goes, that company is long gone (even then, most fans have a bone to pick with one, two or all of the PS1 era Final Fantasies). Their two biggest idea men have obviously been tapped dry and it doesn't look like great replacements are coming in any time soon. At least there are RPG development studios aside from SE now.

Seriously, the end of the game basically says "all is well and all is done." Hell, a staple of FF gameplay and storytelling -magic- is gone. That said, I'm sure they could handwave that away, as they have been doing as of late with poor plot devices (see: villains of FFVII: AC). The years and centuries following FFVI would make for great realpolitik books a la The Song of Ice and Fire, but I don't see anyone with enough talent trying that one out. That said, the comparison between the two stories would be a bit thin, as FFVI is about the death of magic and The Song of Ice and Fire is about its rebirth.

I think I've imagined the worst FF6 spin-off game possible.

    It would be a prequel.
It would be a timing/rhythm game for iPods and Cellphones featuring Kefka telling Terra specific soldiers to fry. It would be so bad.

Seriously, you guys. Final Fantasy VI-2, featuring Relm, Setzer, and Locke exploring the world ala Final Fantasy X-2. It would be awesome, and you all know it.

I don't think they've done this yet because they know the backlash would be unfathomable if it wasn't perfect.

Hell, look at Chrono Cross. That game was fantastic and it still got a lot of shit.

Or, how about a Thief-esque game starring Locke? That probably wouldn't be very good, either.

It could've been better if the developers had known how to make an action game fun.

In other words, next time, they need to license projects like that out to other developers.

Square can do the CG. And that's all they should do.

According to GameFAQs, April 22 as "The World Ends With You."

I said it before, but I really think that if they can't get a cell phone release, they can at least put it on the internet to be bought and downloaded. Any computer should be able to easily run these games.

Great. Now their ninja spies are going to relay this to their writers. At first, y'know, despite Square's best efforts they made a FF game that was fan-fucking-tastic and worth having the milked name on it. Now it's going to be tarnished. I hope you're happy.

    ARE YOU HAPPY?

Well, I played FFI and Dragon Warrior(now Quest) I and II beforehand, but FFIV was the first RPG I fell in love with. So you better port this to the DS or PSP, Squenix. You better. :x

Goddamnit. FFIV is my first and still most favorite RPG of all time. The only things this thread has accomplished are:

    1. Reminded me that FFIV DS still has no US release date, which means it is still months and months away.

    2. Shown my a slice of pure happiness, puppies, rainbows, etc. that I will never experience because squeenix has a retarded love for cell phones and an irrational hatred of my money (apparently)

Quoted for truth. I hope they'll at least announce the FFIV DS in english soon enough... would be an absolute loss for western gamers if it wasn't translated.
