I just got the Wii version (I haven't played the PS2 version) with a free Amazon giftcard. Am I supposed to hate this game? I see so many people complaining, but I'm awestruck by how beautiful this game is. Perhaps it's because I didn't play the original, but I love the Wii version.
Edit: After reading a bit more of the forum, I simply may not be up to the point where the problems kick in and start pissing me off. I'm only a couple of hours in, so I haven't gotten a lot of the weapons and moves that seem to be causing trouble.
This game is gorgeous though, and I will freely admit that I cried during the opening cinematic. I think that's the first time that's happened.
I always tear up at the end. If you cried at the opening, I can promise you the end will fuck you up.
I'm sure it's a really obvious moment (and I'm sure the ending is headed in the same direction)
but goddamn if I wasn't upset when the wolf died.
The story segments, thus far, have been very elegantly presented. I'm trying not to play it too much because I want to make it last as long as possible.
I just picked up this game, and I was loving the hell out of it until one point where I found that the designers need to be flogged.
I'm only up to the point of Mr. Orange's bloom dance, where you have to bloom a number of bulbs on the tree so that he thinks his dance worked. Unfortunately, I seem to have a problem drawing circles with a Wiimote, and the game repeatedly doesn't recognize what I've attempted to do. One time it even cast the sun spell instead of blooming, which really pissed me off. As well, all the dialog in this scene is forced to move slowly, and is completely unskippable, meaning I have to listen to about 70 seconds of mumbling characters in between attempts. So far, I've only been able to pull off about 3 blooms in a row after about 30 attempts, and I'm scared to know how many there actually are. I can actually see how this would be a tad easier to pull off with an analog stick controlling the painting, as moving the stick in a steady circle would probably be easier than trying to draw with your wrist in the air.
Are there any specific tricks I should know about to try and trigger the bloom successfully? I've yet to figure it out, and its driving me mad. Everything else about this game has been pure awesome up until this point.

I played it on PS2 and had zero problems with the drawing except the heaven symbol on one of the sidequests. I didn't have to wrangle a wii-mote for it, but off the top of my head...sit closer to the sensor bar? Draw more slowly?
Either way, I only had one part of the game that I didn't like, and it's totally worth it to push through to the end.
Its kinda hard to screw up its placement, you draw it around a clearly visible pink bud in the middle of a screen full of green leaves. As well, you don't have a whole lot of time to do it either.
It might just be me though. I might just have to train my wrist to be more circular, instead of some of the oddball skewed ellipses I've managed to draw (although those sometimes trigger the bloom as well for some wierd reason).

Yeah, the drawing on the Wii can get pretty bleh at time. ._. Just wait until you get the wind power. Blooming things becomes hell in a hand basket, tbh. But all I can say is make sure you do it quickly and try standing up to do it. Make sure it covers the WHOLE screen for this. Anyway, there are more blooming dancing later, so uh... good luck.

The replacement box art covers that were ordered three lifetimes ago just arrived today. I was half expecting them to not fit inside the box, but they work just fine, and they look great.

Shit. Do they still offer the replacement covers? I'm probably going to get this game soon and I do NOT want to look at that IGN logo every time I take the game out.

Nah, those replacement covers have expired, I think I updated the OP a while back. But I do believe you are able to print them out... if I'm not mistaken... (hopefully you have a good printer ... or Kinkos might)
edit - I'll work on the OP here in a bit..
I ended up picking up the PS2 version.. cause I still don't have a Wii yet, and yes this game is awesome!

Then again, every person I've met seems to be oozing testosterone and woman juices over Brawl, so meh.

Are you drawing the circle in the right place?
I should get around to buying this game.
