It is official, at the time of Micromania Games Awards, Nintendo announces Super Bros Smash. Brawl in France and the rest of Europe for June 6, 2008!! Any more how a few weeks of patience and this long waiting will not be rewarded the friends!
I probably won't get Smash until a while after release, just as it comes out in the middle of uni revision time, and I don't want to fail my degree...
I'm in a similar predicament. Smash comes out just before finals for me, so I'll probably have to wait at least a week until I pick it up. This is my final quarter of school (well, until law school starts this Fall) and my grades are actually worse than ever. While they aren't terribly critical this time around I'd prefer to limit the amount of "tanking" my GPA seems poised to do.
This way people can't escape, and there won't be any randomness to mess things up, as everything should end the same.
This seriously did not deserve to be BOTP'd.
That is seriously the best custom stage I've seen thus far. Clearly demonstrates a strong knowledge of the game's physics system and excellent innate timing skills.
It's like the creation of a murderous Rube Goldberg.
I have to chime in and say that this is made of win and awesome. I want MORE!
Edit: Also, I suggest that we replace the Assist Trophy link in the first post with this one:
It's more complete (showing the Advance Wars troops, Samurai Goroh, Lyn and Barbara the Bat), and generally gives a more clear indication of what the assist trophies do - the guy who made the video kindly used Tingle multiple times to show a few different effects.
Other than Sakurai not touting online bug fixing as a feature on his blog, I see no reason to believe they did not foresee a need to be able to fix issues hampering the online community.
I see no reason to believe that they did foresee it. This is nintendo, such a move would be unprecedented for them. Patching some virtual console games isn't even close to the same thing.
I shall forfeit from the tournament as well, which makes Ashton the next in line to take the spot. I don't think I'll be around here much in March sadly.
I'm personally a big fan of the "don't be a dick" rule. I don't care if someone thinks is too obscure or not.
The way I see it... if it requires clarification... then its probably dickish.
my apologies for quoting myself, but I feel this should be stated again
The thing is, different people have different definitions about what "being a dick" is. Is repetitive rolling to avoid attacks being a dick? Is spamming an attack being a dick? Is taking a defensive stance and waiting for the other player to come to you being a dick? Chain combos? Taunting? I'm sure you'll get different answers to these questions depending on who you ask.
I'm all for "don't be a dick" as a general philosophy, but as a rule or guideline it kinda' sucks.

I'm thinking of a big 4man FFA tourney, w/all items and stages.
4 stock with no time limit.
Probably double elimination or something to that affect.

Really? So if someone gets pissed off that the other person uses a taunt after a kill, or gets in a lucky hit with J-Puff's sleep or something, we should actually consider this "dickish"? Do we all have to cater to the super-sensitive, just because we're so desperate to avoid the need for a specific set of rules? If we all played that way, the game would be called "Super be nice to everyone and don't ever, ever, ever do anything that anyone else disagres with Bros.".

At varying times in my Smash Brothering career, I have had to following techniques called cheap and unfair and "dickish" by some of my opponents:
> Edge grabbing
> Fighting someone off the edge as they try to recover
> Using Sheik's needles to stun opponents for an opening and destroy projectiles
> Jigglypuff's "rest" attack
> Severely beating the crap out of people in combos that they aren't good enough to escape
> Spiking
> Using Marth's forward smash to finish off combos
> Kirbyciding
> Using items (such as beam swords and star rods) to my advantage
> Shielding
So to my opponents, these all require clarification. And must be banned!

Its more based off the honor system. If you feel you need to ask for approval to use a specific ability, then chances are you probably shouldn't be using it.
Now, if you're going to tell me you want my approval for using the B button, A button or R button (what looks to be the majority of that list)... we're going to have problems.

Ah, well good, because when it comes to being cheap and unfair, I feel that everything goes in a fight so I won't have to ask any questions. So don't mind me then.
(Also only shielding and Jiggly's rest are "button push" questions... the rest are tactics, some of which annoy people)

And this will no doubt lead to:
A: B needs to be banned from the tourney because he's a dick! He was using technique X!
B: I thought X was okay.
C: Yeah, me an D did X throughout our entire match.
E: You did? But me and F were under the impression we weren't allowed to do X...
Everyone: Gee, it would have been nice if we had actual rules to follow instead of the vague "don't be a dick" policy...

If you forsee this as a problem then you need to evaluate why you're playing in a "casual" PA tourney.
Are you here to have fun? or are you here to boost your epeen?

I'm not in any tourney - I want to learn the characters first. However, that doesn't bar me from talking about the rules, and in any game, no matter how casual, it pays to have a set of clear rules to follow. Something as vague as "don't be a dick" is just going to cause problems at some point. Without rules, you could be playing goddamn Candyland and get into arguments.
Edge grab invincibility protects you from Peach's final smash. Check out this video, about halfway through, the second time Peach gets the smash ball, Mario times his ledge grab perfectly to not get put to sleep.

So is that dickish?
On a scale of 1 to 10 how much dick does it require to do something like that?

The sad thing is, Kor is absolutely right and just asking nicely to give each other mutual respect should work in a casual tournament for funsies. Unfortunately, we've got people here who think genuinely dickish moves are absolutely fine and absolutely plan on using them just to win(i.e. getting ahead by one and then running away for the rest of the match). And because we have to define that, we have to bitch about all the tiny pissy things that will never happen and no one cares about.
I think you people are overthinking this... a lot. I'm willing to bet the people who are talking about "dickish" (whatever the fuck that means) moves are the people who don't own the game yet.
I mean, seriously, you'll never see anybody at a Street Fighter tournament saying "NO JUMPING KICK TO DOWNWARD SWEEP THAT'S SO CHEAP". It's a part of the game. By all accounts from people who actually do own the game, it seems to be remarkably well balanced and the "infinite combo" glitches are nearly impossible to set up in a real match. So tell me, why are we worrying about this again?
Edit: as for running away and stalling the clock, ok, you're a jerk. Your punishment should be that you can't participate in the next tournament if it was witnessed by a few people. Just make sure to have spectators there to confirm stuff like that. But saying that actual moves and techniques can't be used? Cripes people. Just let it go.
Last I checked this tournament had no real prize other than your smash dominance. That being sad, it is just a way for PA people to play together and it is just meant to be fun. I know Smash is very serious for many of you, but try to pretend it is just a game for a little bit.
Wow, you guys might wanna spend as much time just fucking playing the game with friends as you do disecting dickery and you might just enjoy yourself.
I'm still of the opinion that the whole reason conversations like take place is because we don't have the game yet and we can't enjoy ourselves. Whining and complaining is all we got at this point. :P Once the game comes out, I'm sure no crap like this will happen and we'll all be like BlueBlue, who clearly is too busy having a great time to whine and argue on a forum.
And To Kor's comment about things like spiking just being the A button and Kirbyciding just being the B button... technically infinite stalling is just using the control stick and jump button and Falco's endless laser combo is just the B button. I was refering to the techniques themselves and their intentions, not how simple they are.
