I have to give it to Incredible Hercules. I couldn't care less about the Herc, find Cho to be a kind of annoying mary sue, and haven't been all that enthused about the recent Hulk stuff, but Ares is just distilled fantastic in here. If he was used this well elsewhere I'd love him.
Between this issue's "Oh No! Attack from unseen assailant!" and last issue's "I can't hear you over the sound of returning fire" Ares has been the guy I most look forward to seeing. Is his use here or in Might Avengers the standard? Because maybe it's my just finding Mighty Avengers crappy in general, but he seems world better in Incredibly Herc, as opposed to generic macho guy in the other.
It's not as extreme over there, mainly because he's not being played as the main antagonist.. but his portrayal in Incredible Herc jives just find with his portrayal in MA for me.
You know, Doom's been linked with Namor, Loki, Morgan LeFay and the Red Skull in recent months. Anyone else think that Marvel's gearing up to create an evil version of the Illuminati.
Re: Doom, et al.
I seem to recall having this conversation last year before it basically became "Oh, this must be The Hood's thing."
So since my top MOTWs are covered... Ultimate Human was pretty good: Ellis/Nord is a nice combo. Ulimates v3 #3 gets a nod for not being as bad as the last 2 months. Still the worst thing I've read this week, but it's gotten better. Checkmate is also awesome again, so go check that out dudes.

Ultimate human was pretty good, I'll agree with that.
Spider Man is raping my brain slowly.
We fucking get it, you don't have organic web shooters anymore, and there's a redhead who says tiger and is named jackpot. We get those two things, really, you don't need to keep bringing them up every single issue on every other panel. Also, yeah, the new goblin. We get it, there's a new one. Alrighty then.
Yeah, I've been having the same problem with it.
Part of me is thinking that it's time to drop ASM.
The other part of me thinks I should be ashamed for thinking that way, and that it'll get better in the next few months.
I really hope it gets better.
Yeah I agree, it was really annoying how the 2 characters that Spider-Man story was about kept showing up.
wait.. what
really man, it's going to be like that? I mean we're two months into brand new day, and like six issues in, and every three pages is still "zomg! I ran out of web fluid again, silly me." or "tiger, I'm jackpot tiger, what do you think tiger about my red hair tiger. TIGER!" or "I'm a goblin, but my name is menace, but I'm a goblin, and your friend is still alive, so I'm a goblin, GOBLIN."
Also, the whole "lets do covers and writing for the sake of nostalgia is wearing really thin. I know a lot of people didn't like the other, and that's fine, but back in black was really, really good, and showcased some of his new powers well, and the attitude and humor he had in new avengers was miles above his old school one liners they're giving him in ASM.
I think ASM will even out after everyone has written their initial arc. There's no way Marvel is going to screw up having ASM in the top 10 three times a month (presumably, this is why they renamed the other books in the first place).
Look I can agree it's kind of silly that he ran out of webbing in each of the first two arcs, but given the end of this one I don't think it will be an issue again anytime soon.
As for Jackpot and Menace.. they werent in the first 3 issues at all.. this is the first storyline about them, so I think it's ridiculous to complain about how much they are in it when that is what the arc was about.
If you don't like the characters thats fine, then just say that. But thats not what you were bitching about.

I liked the organic webshooters because - unlike his "spider-sense", "spider-muscles", "spider-agility", "spider-stickiness", shooting webs ACTUALLY was a spider trait.
Spider-sense was some sort of telepathy
Spider-strength was crazy, since the "strength" of spiders and arachnids and whatnot is nothing special, and same with agility.
Spider-webs on the other hand were an actual spider trait grafted onto a person. Sure, they should have come out of his butt, but still...

I felt the organic shooters were just to appeal to the movies and hook some new young readers without confusing them, and that's fine. I'm cool with it.
I actually loved his advance spider sense, especially in back in black when he used it to find the guy who shot aunt may even though he was under no thread and had never seen or met him before, just off instinct.
Sounds like you're in for a treat, Forar. Those are two great comic series that you're going to experience for the very first time.
Oh, I'm loving them both dearly. I'm heading off to lunch now, with trade #9 in hand. I'm sure it won't disappoint.
I bought the first trade and loved it, and started reading the monthly about seven issues ago, so I'm not caught up at all on the story, but I love it. I actually just stopped reading the monthly edition. I'm still buying it, but I won't read them until I'm caught up on the trades. I did the same thing with invincible and walking dead.

I'm just getting kind of tired that in almost each issue of Brand New Day, Spider-men gets into trouble because of his webshooters (losing one, running out of fluid, etc.). I just wish that I could get a story where the bad guy doesn't get away because Pete doesn't have anymore fluid or Spider-man is in danger because he has no more fluid. It just seems like lazy writing.

I gotta say that Ares in MA and Incredible Herc is very different from the Ares mini, though. In that one he was a lot more serious and hardcore (we're talking self-immolation and jumping into zombie armies with guns blazing, here). He also wasn't portrayed as a dick like he is in Incredible Herc.
I can't decide if I like Ares from the mini better or Ares from Herc better.

I've been a fan of the development on Ares. Crappy artwork from the last new avengers aside, I loved it when he was watching Jessica and Luke fight outside avengers tower was just "I don't understand why he doesn't just tell her that he's the man and he's in charge and smack her around...?" or something to that effect.
I like that he's just big and dumb and everyone is fine with that. It's like he's a slightly less destructive version of the hulk.
On a completely different note, what did everyone think about x-force? I'm two weeks behind on buying books so I don't know if it came out last week or this week, but I dug it. I like that the x-men are getting their hands dirty again.

We've only had two stories so far, lets not get too carried away with "every issue!!". Besides he got the money to make more web fluid at the end of Guggs' arc, so it looks like they are done with that for now (as they should be.)

Invincible, damn, I've been meaning to give that a shot too.
Alas, poor wallet, I knew ye well!
Also, just got back from lunch, during which I read the entire trade, and lo, it was AWESOME.
Among my favourite parts (MASSIVE SPOILERS! DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU'RE CAUGHT UP!):
355 pushing Toyota out a fucking window and taking her down.
Alison standing up for Yorick and taking down her own dad.
I absolutely can't wait to see the last 6 issues, be it by trade #10 coming out, or barrowing them from the aforementioned neighbours.

Re: Doom, et al.
Hulk has some of the best lines.
Anyway...what exactly is ultimate human supposed to be about, anyway?
My Let's Play Channel: https://youtube.com/channel/UC2go70QLfwGq-hW4nvUqmog
Ultimate Human is basically Ultimate Iron Man and Ultimate Hulk vs. Ultimate Leader
and there's no storytelling in them
He was so much better on Birds of Prey.
Spider Man is raping my brain slowly.

i hate that change more than any other OMD retcon
the organic webshooters were dumb
(send me bone)
See, we're gonna have to agree to disagree on that one.
My moment of the week: neighbour works at a comic shop downtown, and got me Y: The Last Man trades 1, 3 and 9 for like $25.
I'm totally hitting the bank and getting her to hook me up with the other 6.
Also, she's loaning me Fables trades, and I'm falling in love.
With the trades that is.
She's hot, but her boyfriend is an awesome guy.
They let me play with their Wii!
... that didn't come out like I intended it to.
...with sexy results
Oh hell yes they were dumb
Spider-sense was some sort of telepathy
Spider-strength was crazy, since the "strength" of spiders and arachnids and whatnot is nothing special, and same with agility.
