I liked the organic webshooters because - unlike his "spider-sense", "spider-muscles", "spider-agility", "spider-stickiness", shooting webs ACTUALLY was a spider trait.

Spider-sense was some sort of telepathy

Spider-strength was crazy, since the "strength" of spiders and arachnids and whatnot is nothing special, and same with agility.

Spider-webs on the other hand were an actual spider trait grafted onto a person. Sure, they should have come out of his butt, but still...

Um, proportionately, spiders, and all bugs, are freaking strong. And there's some spiders that have crazy ass agility.

I don't think there was any need for organic web shooters, though. He wasn't mutated into a man spider (well, he eventually was). He was just a kid that got bit by a spider, got super strength and agility and figured he'd name himself after how he got his powers.

However, if they're just goign to do this constant out of web fluid, which now costs $2000 per batch nonsense, I'd rather just keep the organic ones. Also, make him start using Ben Reilly's stingers and impact webbing. That shit is the best addition to spidey's arsenal since Stan Lee days and they just ignore it because it came from the clone saga era.

Yeah, one of the cool things about old-school Spidey is that he'd come up against a villain who over-powered him, and he'd be forced to cobble together some gadget to help him out. That's where his spider-light belt and spider-tracers come from. People shouldn't be scared of giving him a few more weapons.

Yeah the one problem with the NA art is that Ares didn't really look like Ares.

Other than that it was awesome. But then again I have and love all the Alias trades.

But at least we were spared every other story becoming "Damn! That dimestore villain that would otherwise be no problem got away cuz I have no webbing left!"

    PEDANTRY WARNING...

Not quite true. See JBS Haldane's "On Being the Right Size", an awesome essay about the effects of scaling on mechanical properties in the animal kingdom. Here is the relevant portion:
"Such are a very few of the considerations which show that for every type of animal there is an optimum size. Yet although Galileo demonstrated the contrary more than three hundred years ago, people still believe that if a flea were as large as a man it could jump a thousand feet into the air. As a matter of fact the height to which an animal can jump is more nearly independent of its size than proportional to it. A flea can jump about two feet, a man about five. To jump a given height, if we neglect the resistance of air, requires an expenditure of energy proportional to the jumper’s weight. But if the jumping muscles form a constant fraction of the animal’s body, the energy developed per ounce of muscle is independent of the size, provided it can be developed quickly enough in the small animal. As a matter of fact an insect’s muscles, although they can contract more quickly than our own, appear to be less efficient; as otherwise a flea or grasshopper could rise six feet into the air."

So yes, ants and spiders and whatnot can lift 10 to 20x their body weight, but that's because they're small, not because they're strong. A human sized ant would be much weaker than we are.

Doom was conjuring the Crimson Bands as far back as the Triumph and Torment GN (which is highly recommended to anyone that hasn't read it).

    Cable/Deadpool
    1) Deadpool realizing that he's really made it as a hero, and has become accepted by the other heroes of the Marvel Universe. Even to the point of being invited to the Thing's superhero poker game.

    2) Agent X-- sumo wrestler!

    3) Deadpool possessed by a symbiote. Symbiont.

    4) Bob's wife texting him after she sees him on TV beating up a dinosaur.

I wish every issue had been as strong as this one.

Iron Fist was just fantastic from start to finish. For some reason I was especially fond of the Son of Frankenstein section.

"I wasn't scared of you thirty years ago, and I sure ain't scared of you now."

The Brave and the Bold provided a bit of foreshadowing into Infinite Crisis. I really liked Superman's sudden revelation upon hearing the Silent Knight's real name, and discovering why Merlin was so insistent that Superman protect him at all cost.

    hah, i loved that part
when i first saw the kid, my immediate assumption was "oh nice, frankenstein transferred his brain into a kid's body! hardcore!" and then read a little and was all "oh, it's just his supergenius son, that's cool too", and then i was all "oh snap, hardcore!"

great art in that section too. i'd happily read that guy on the main book if aja drops off for some reason

Triumph and Torment is one of the few books I still have in my possession (I scanned most of my collection a long time ago). I got Mignola and Baker to draw Doom and Strange sketches in it about fifteen years ago, so I had to keep it.

Actually, I figured being able to leap a city block might be ablle to mitigate the fact that he doesn't have webs, or ropes or anything. I mean, that plus the sticking to walls, the webs seem to be kind of unnecessary. They help, but t hey aren't required.

    So, I pondered starting a new MOTW thread a day early, but figured this is a more appropriate place to put it;

My neighbours loaned me the last 6 issues of Y: The Last Man.

    It's a beautiful conclusion.

I was up late with the World of Warcraft crew, and thought I'd lay down and read a bit before going to sleep.

Of course, we both know I was going to finish the series.

And I'm glad I did. It's 2 am, I've got work tomorrow, but in hindsight I wouldn't have missed those issues for the world.

You were all right about one thing; the ending, the last 4 or so pages.

    Absolutely perfect.
