I heard somewhere (yeah, real authoritative) that, after arresting a criminal, a police player may shoot them. This adds 15 seconds to their spawn time but increases your infamy.

This gets my approval.
Though my buddy and I are going for a 70s buddy cop duo. He is the inner city black cop that plays by his own rules and my guy is the white by the books cop who only knows a 'turkey' as that delicious bird you eat.
Edit- Hah, you know what is funny? Out of all the MMOs out there this one, with cops and robbers, is the only one in which I would like to roleplay :P.

Sorry Im guessing someone brought this up in 20 or so pages.
But its no longer coming out for the 360? Or at least for not a while right?
I keep hearing/reading conflicting reports. Some people on forums say that its only for the pc and they want to see if its successful. But then I look at the latest news they have on IGN and they say "No longer for the 360" - and then have a follow up that says they are still making it for the 360 (but this was back in July or June).
Of course the new video on Gamespot piqued my interest earlier this week..

Oh okay, cool. The customization in this game is so in depth, it would be a shame if one side had more freedom than the other. I was afraid they would make you wear a cop jacket or something.
I remember reading long ago about APB having a deal with Last.Fm to have internet radio ingame. If this is true, all 70s cop show styled cops must listen to 70s funk music.

Shit, I'm gonna be listening to that anyway
edit: sudden thought, if there's a customizable radio for this game that's it, I'm fucking buying it day one guaranteed

Apparently having this feature meant that people who got in your car to ride with you would hear the same music too. Hopefully, this means that when I'm chasing after criminals they can properly hear the Who "YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH" as my sirens go on.
EDIT: Jones confirmed that players will be able to use the Last.FM service to create custom soundtracks within the game.[5] At a show in Brighton,
At GDC 2009 it was announced that Vivox would be providing voice chat for the game, the software allows players to customize the voice of their characters with voice fronts, and also to communicate using 3D positional audio.
Wait, so I can properly yell "BREAK YOURSELF FOO" at criminals? Game of the Year.

I swear to God, I just came in to the thread ONLY to post that my interest for the game has piqued today, when I realized I could play as one of the cops from the Sabotage video, and basically just beat punks to death with a police baton.
And there you are, totp.

I wonder if the Thugs can put in complaints about police brutality.
Because Penny Arcade PD could probably set some sort of record.
Mayor: Now Drebin, I don't want any trouble like you had on the South Side last year, that's my policy.
Frank: Well, when I see five weirdos, dressed in togas, stabbing a man in the middle of the park in full view of a hundred people, I shoot the bastards, that's *my* policy!
Mayor: That was a Shakespeare-In-The-Park production of 'Julius Caesar,' you moron! You killed five actors! Good ones!
I love the idea of this game, its basically going back to playing cops and robbers but with a proper structured ruleset. And by the looks of it you can do all the absurd chases and jumps in the cars as well.
Here is hoping that they model in more than just the new cars as well, so when chasing the Thugs in their Dodge Viper we can pursue in 70's era detective car, one siren clamped on top.

They've got an emote system in place, with what seem to be several different styles of dancing, but I really hope they add dance like a white guy back in the seventies, eat a doughnut and nod thoughtfully and do that thing with the mustache, though.

I think I've read the opposite. That respawn times will be longer for people that are arrested than for people that are killed. Suddenly I'm not sure which is right.

Back when this game was primarily for the 360, or going to be for the 360, or whatever. They talked about how you could play your custom soundtracks over your car's speakers so other players nearby would hear it. Effectively allowing you to have your own theme music everywhere you go. I sure hope that is still in.

It is, and it's awesome. It's integrated with last.fm, so if you're playing a track, and the guy you drive past doesn't have that same track, it'll find the closest match and play that to him instead.

I like the look of this game, but I wish they would stop going on about how 'Creative' and 'Artistic' you can be with the character customisation.
No matter how many visual options there are for your character, thats all they'll be - options.
Nothing truely original can come through this kind of creation, as demonstrated by City of Heroes.

I asked about this at PAX as well. I really is a ridiculous amount of customisation - I asked if it was comparable to Forza 2's decal customisation, and he said it blew that out of the water.

Hm, I dunno about that. I saw some pretty original creations in CoH.
I don't really think there should be "originality" in APB's characters though. They're based in the real world, I don't want something looking alien to the rest of the game world. You make a face, body and personality of a human character. Then you play dress-up with them. That's about it. The "innovation" in their character creation is in the sheer volume of options you have when tweaking those previously mentioned parts.

What?
I've seen plenty of perfectly original heroic-types come out of City of Heroes. Unless you're looking for people to break out of the "has limbs" and "wears clothing" mold.

It can't be as good as the thug customization, because then everyone would just look the same.
