Do any open source (and good) newsgroup readers exist?

It seems like there is good open source everything, CD burning programs, office suites, web browsers.. but do any good newsgroup readers exist that are free? I have found a couple free ones but they all seem to be years old and don't work very well, but maybe (hopefully) I am just looking in the wrong spot.

Anyone know of any that work just as good as the pay ones but are open source or freeware?

Thunderbird has newsgroup reader support if that's enough for you.

Pan isn't bad if you want a dedicated reader.

If you're so inclined there's always Google Groups. You can save a list of favorite groups and the threaded display is done pretty well. If you've got a GMail account you can use that you log onto Groups in order to save preferences and stuff.
