Life of Brian, and all the other movies from Monty Python.
Spaceballs
UHF
This is Spinal Tap
Dead Alive - only the unrated version which I think is all you can get these days.
Undead
Pretty much everything Drez listed. Spaceballs, UHF, the Bill and Ted movies, and Better Off Dead are probably the movies I've rewatched the most out of any movies in any genre.
Do you have any types of comedy you especially do or do not like? I tend to gravitate towards low brow and slapstick humor oriented stuff which your "the cleverer the better" comment suggests may not be what you're looking for. I still say you should see the movies I listed and the movies Drez listed, though.

Hmm, I am pretty open to pretty much anything.
I love Monty Python (and have seen all their films many times over)
I have seen all of Simon Pegg's films liked them all.
Seen all of Wes Anderson's films, loved them all.
Love Bill And Ted.
Love the Coen Brothers films.
Love Weird Al but had never heard of UHF till I wiki'd it. I am going to have to watch that now.
Snatch was very funny too.
Loved Office Space.
This is Spinal Tap is genius
Other funny stuff I like - Aqua Teen Hunger Force (seen the film and laughed so hard throughout), Harvey Birdman, South Park, Team America, The Office (UK), Invader Zim, Spaced, The Young Ones, Red Dwarf, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain,
I don't like Ryan Reynolds, Ben Stiller or Adam Sandler, and/or any films I have seen them in. Spaceballs was funny in parts, but not really what I am in the mood for.
Fargo
A Fish Called Wanda
Blazing Saddles
Sleeper
The Producers
Coconuts
Duck Soup
Horse Feathers
Mystery Science Theater 3000 The Movie
The Princess Bride
Hot Shots!
Also, I think you may need to watch Meet The Parents even if you don't like Ben Stiller. I find it hard to believe that anyone can watch that movie without loving it.
The first Clerks
Tenacious D? It was pretty hilarious the first time through - it had me suffering from sudden outbursts of laughter for days afterward.
The Three Amigos
Spies Like Us
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
Dirty Work
Saved
Galaxy Quest
Help
Hard Days Night

I'm surprised most of the following haven't been listed yet.
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
The 40 Year Old Virgin
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
Knocked Up
Superbad
Hot Fuzz
Shaun of the Dead
heretoinform on
Socialism is the concrete foundation of America. Capitalism is the flimsy tin shack that sits upon it.

All of these.
Watch with some friends, too. Makes everyting funnier.
The Specials (You may have trouble finding this one because I think it had limited distribution. It's a superhero comedy.)
Way, way better than it had any right to be.
Super Troopers.
Guest House Paradiso (If you ever watched Bottom and found it funny)
Also, I think you may need to watch Meet The Parents even if you don't like Ben Stiller. I find it hard to believe that anyone can watch that movie without loving it.
Tenacious D? It was pretty hilarious the first time through - it had me suffering from sudden outbursts of laughter for days afterward.
Oh and Talladega Nights
this is a great post
Fuck the both of you for leaving out Bottle Rocket.
A bunch of us had a film night where we watched Casino Royale followed by this. It was glorious.

Idiocracy, Had a poor release but is a great movie and commentary on the dumbing down of America.
Not movies but worth the watch:
An Evening With Kevin Smith
The Fawlty Towers collection.
Ruthless People
The Great Race
Murder by Death
are all somewhat old, but still hilarious.
The Party.
Oscar
And to a lesser extent, Four Rooms. (the Misbehavers is comedic genius.)
