Ok, I've added a list of bands on the OP.
Anybody have any new ones they want added?

This Heat, Bark Psychosis, and Talk Talk.

    If you say so.

I think most people just want to talk about what bands they like, and identification based on trends in rarefied traits is a simple sorting mechanism for the human brain. I think you're worrying too much about a type of behavior exhibited every now and then by 16 year-olds.

it's definitely laid back, though some songs like Hoppipolla are really damn happy.

I have the same problem, though I probably wouldn't have put it so bluntly since I still like the music

I just have trouble listening to it unless I'm tired and in my bed, waiting to sleep

Genre's are around for a reason. Rap is quite obviously different than country. People came up with words for those kinds of music so that it was easier to talk about them. "Post rock" is different than regular rock. Is the name stupid? Yes. Are most genre names stupid? Yes. Does that make any fucking difference at all? No.
Would you have cared if I made a Hip Hop thread? Or a Classical thread? Do you hate the metal thread that's already around? This music is very different than regular rock music, and the word "rock" probably shouldn't be in it's title. Listen to Godspeed and compare it to any rock band. Huge fucking difference.
Don't worry about the name, and just listen to the music. If you don't like the music, then feel free to say so, and stop posting in this thread.

    Not true.

I think you're thinking of Continuo music.

In the same way that "Classical" isn't really a genre.

The small orchestra, with harpsichord and cello, filled with ornamentation, Handel, Haydn, Vivaldi... That's Continuo music.

there was lots of different styles going on at the time. Forte Piano solos, song sets, string quartets etc
