Yeah maybe so. It'd be nice to be able to use those backpacks in singleplayer for sure.
Especially concussion when in a huge-ass firefight with those EDF bastards. Or maybe stealth so you can sneak up to the buildings and then remote-mine them for smithereen-blowing

Nope, apparently they were too unbalanced for the singleplayer. I think. JNighthawk should be able to confirm.

edit: on the game's sales, it seems very much like a "man, I need to get this" title. One person buys it, enjoys it, shows it to their friends, they love it, buy their own copies, and it proliferates like so. I expect it to have some decent sales legs.

So the other night, as I was playing a mission, I saw a greenish-blue light in the hills. I couldn't go check it out since I had like 1000 EDF vehicles on my tail. I didn't see a blip on my radar, but I definately saw that light. I even managed to turn a bit and get a second glance at it.
    Anyone know what it is?
Aren't the tags like orange or something?

No, the tags are green blips.

The tags are green blips on your radar, but orange swirly fire-like things when you see them.

Oh, I misread his post, thought he was referring to the radar.

Sometimes there is no fiery glow, in which case the radio tags are actually skeletons lying on the ground at the same spot. Probably a graphical bug.

The sniper mission in Eos is kicking my ass. I can kill one group of them - it doesn't matter if it's the initial three, or the five in the more secluded area - but I can never stay alive long enough to get to the other group and kill them.

    Any ideas?

i had a hard time with this one as well.
kill the intial 3, use one of their rifles or be a crack shot with the nano rifle to take down some of the guys on the ground. Get to a vehicle asap and run the fuck away for a second, get clear of edf and go the long way around to the next area. Hump the vehicle up over the hill to the lil path area leading to the buildings with the group of 5 on em. Plow that bad boy right into the building get out asap get up the stairs to the second story and blow the stairs out behind you. All the snipers are on the roof in this area so place charges on the roof over yer head blow em, jetpack over to the next building, blow the stairs again blow up roof rinse repeat. Building should provide cover. This mission was a huge pain for me as well but this is the tactic i used to eventually clear it.

So, while this game was entertaining and all, I felt the campaign mode to be rather sparse. Only a handful of story missions, the vast majority of the buildings are no more than 2-3 stories tall, and the landscape makes getting to most destinations more of a pain in the ass than entertaining. Fun game, but there's just not enough to do.

So which is the better port, 360 or PS3?

They are essentially the same. I played both demos, didn't notice any discernible differences between them (nor have a I heard any reports of major differences between the two). Both run great, both start dipping in framerate when the world comes crashing down around you (but only a little). 360 has more people playing MP on LIVE, but that's only meaningful if you're willing to pay the LIVE tax (or already have).

No talk of DLC yet, but it's likely that both platforms will receive whatever gets released. This isn't a big enough game for MS to bring out the Big-Bag-of-Cashâ„¢ for exclusivity.

Was anybody else dissapointed by the visual style of Eos? I mean Parker, the FFZ and the Badlands are obviously supposed to look Total Recall-dark and oppressive, Dust kinda trailer-park-ish, whilst Oasis is supposed to house somewhat more affluent citizens, hence it's almost lush and houses nicer buildings. I expected Eos to be the pinnacle of Martian civilization, but it looked rather Spartan to me, like a mix of Dust and Oasis with drab glass office blocks and a large construction site.

Certainly the Northern area and Mount Vogel are military heartlands, but what about the rest of the sector - the Vichy-esque Martian Council and civilian areas? I recall the rebel commander saying that this is where the EDF and corporate bigshots live - financial wizards, captains of industry, architects etc.

    sniper mission spoiler:
There was a video of a dev doing this mission that came out before the game was released. I pretty much did what he did for the first half. When you get to the second set of snipers, there is a little walkway across the street from them. I set a bunch of proxy mines at the bottom of the stairs, then went up and started to rocket their building. When the proxy mines were gone, I jetpacked up to the roof of that walkway and moved to the back wall. The only thing I had to worry about were the fliers.

I did a variation on this and the mission was way easy. 1) Sprint into building, run up stairs. 2) Shoot a hole in the roof with the nano rifle. 3) Jetpack up through the hole and HAMMERTIME!

Anyone else kinda wish they introduced the
    satellite artillery
missions a little earlier? I thought they were pretty fun, and seemed weird that there was only 2 time you were able to use it.

End couple missions were just so much fun. I won't say anything spoilery, but the availability of missile walkers and missile tanks makes the destruction just ridiculous.

The last missions were awesome, some of the best in the game.
The satellite artillery missions were really fun, but I failed the first one a couple times. It's hard to protect something when your only means of interaction are large explosions.

Could be I enjoyed them because I was on casual, so they were a nice easy diversion. They definitely had the potential to be frustrating, but the artillery was much quicker and a smaller contained explosion than I was expecting, I was pleasantly surprised

The satellite missions were a nice diversion to break up the pace of the story missions, but I wouldn't really be interested in playing any more of them.

So it looks like I'll be enjoying this tomorrow, thanks to UPS's speedy delivery. Currently my 360 sits around 400 miles away and still moving. sweet. Should finally get passed the first wall you're supposed to break in this. :D
I'm not kidding, I got as far as running down the hill and breaking the already ruined vehicle in front of the wall and then taking out one strut of the wall before the stupid graphical errors.

Hey guys any recommendations for upgrade paths? I just
kicked the EDF totally out of Parker

and so far I can pick up salvage from my vehicle, and I've upgraded my remote mines to I think deploying six at once.

If it looks cool or explody, grab it. Arc Welder's good for taking vehicles from people. Rockets kill vehicles. Your choice
