And the latest in lazy Wii Ports: Resident Evil Zero

In the latest Famitsu, it has been revealed that Capcom is going release port of Resident Evil Zero for Wii. Not remake, just port. It's a freaking six years old game! How low you can go? :|

Hypnotically inclined.

So no new controls or anything? Is there any point in not just buying the original GC game and using that?

No specific details about that, but Famitsu releaselist says that "controls has been tailored so that game can be comfortably played with wiimote". Capcom probably adds few waggle QTE's and calls it a day. Even more sadder is that this probably has lower budget than your standard WiiWare title, because Capcom doesn't even need to port the code (as Cube and Wii share same architecture and devtools).

I don't really see the issue then. I mean, it's just going to be made available again, with some slightly tweaked controls to work on the wiimote. It's not as if they're cutting it down or anything.

:| Ugh. RE: UC nearly sells a million and what does Capcom do? They port the worst game in the series (excluding the Survivors and Outbreaks) to the Wii... Well at least they might fix some of the AI issues the original version had (like Rebecca being totally spastic).

It probably would've made more sense if they ported this and REmake to the PS3 and 360 though, since those audiences don't have any access to them (whereas Wii owners can buy the GC version).

elkatas: RE Zero didn't have QTE's.

Yup, I know, but I except them to shove some QTEs or gimmicks into it, like the case was with Deadly Silence.

There's nothing wrong with Capcom releasing RE:0 as a Wii game. If they make money, good for them. If they don't, they'll realise it's a bad strategy, and good for us. The only problem here is whether Capcom releasing RE:0 stops them from making original games or from porting games to the Wii that need to be ported. I'm going to say no, given that it's already been noted how easy it'll be for them.

They're only doing it to cash in on the RE franchise seeing as it has had some success on the platform. Unless these low-budget ports start affecting the original games that they make, there's no reason to complain. Just don't buy the game.

I'll forgive Capcom for this if they make some more original Wii games too. But somehow I doubt forgiveness will be in order.

Perhaps a more vocal stand than not buying the game is in order. Dont they have forums?

RE5 development must really be a drain on their coffers.

Well, Capcom does what Capcom does. Most of their ports are fantastic if you look over the entire scope of them. They also aren't afraid to offer something at a value.

I expect the Wii ports to continue, except for RE 5.

That will be ported to the 360/PS3.

If I were them I would just reprint the GC game on bigger discs, package it up in a white case, and put on the back that it requires GC controller and Memory card.

It would cost all of about a tenner, and if it sold more than 5 it would profit.

In fact, I would do that with all Gamecube games.

I never played the game on the Cube, so as long as the cover art is decent and they add in widescreen and 480p and don't charge more than $20, I'll pick it up. Those Famitsu screens are fullscreen, though, and they'll probably try and charge $30, so meh. I'd have a lot more interest if they just reprinted those Resident Evil 2 Gamecube discs. That game is hard to find.

I never played it, but isn't zero hailed as the absolute worst of the survival-horror RE games? Had I not seen the scans myself, I would have called BS.

This just proves that for every good idea Capcom has (porting RE4 to the Wii for example) there's going to be 3 bad ideas.

    I didn't like RE: Zero.

If they did this with RE:make or whatever the hell it's called then I'd likely snap it up providing it was budget price.

And my reasoning of buying it over the gc version? I don't have a wavebird and they're bloody difficult to get a hold of. And I don't like wires.

Stupid excuse I know, but I'm amazingly lazy and the convenience of it using the wiimote, even without enhancements, would justify it for me.

yea but expect that to be Pay and Play

on the subject of this, I don't see how this really works its a OG RE game meaning rendered backdrops and tank controls, how is that fun sounding with the Wii at all.

They would be better off putting all 5 GC REgames in a bundle with a GC or classic controller and market it for the wii specifically. And that works with the horrible uncommon RE2-3-CV getting some limelight even if they were just stupid upscaled PS1 ports.

I never understand the nerd rage that ports can cause.

You already played the game, you don't want to buy it again. Then don't! Simple as that.

Clearly Capcom reckons there is a market for this effective reprint. Be they right or wrong, how does it impact you?

Edited with red for rageful truth. We all thought they'd see "Hey, we can make some money here even with ports of old games, let's make an RE4Wii style spinoff to RE5" or something. Intead they said "Hey, we can make money off of ports of old games -let's port EVERYTHING".

Someone at Capcom needs a good, hard, steel-toed kick to the nads.
