wii keyboard support

So, I am reading conflicting info on various sites I have looked at. To clarify - Will or Will Not the Wii support ANY USB keyboard. If it Will Not, is there a list of ones that work?

The U in USB means Universal.

All keyboards will work in some fashion. Some keys won't work at all, but the standard letters, top-row numbers, arrows and Shift/Enter should all work no problem.

Then logically any USB camera should work in a 360...but it doesn't! The Serial Bus is, indeed, Universal, but that doesn't mean the keyboard is. Just the connecting interface.

But I'm just being picky, in the case of keyboards, pretty much any should work.

I personally use a spare Apple keyboard. It matches nicely.

Though yeah, any keyboard that uses a USB connection should work fine, even wireless ones that use a USB dongle.

    Heh...dongle.

I was able to use an Apple keyboard with my Wii, up until I lost it, so I tried plugging in a Microsoft Digital Media Pro keyboard. Worked awesome. But usually what you want is a wireless, and I never have any luck with those.

I use one with a dongle (heh) for my PS3. It works great and was super cheap (£7).

    What about mice?

My wife actually uses the Internet channel quite a bit, and has been asking me about keyboards and mice for it.

Somehow I don't think Nintendo would be too keen on supporting alternates for the Wii Remote.

i actually feel, for the purpose (i.e browsing on a tv) the Wiimote is better than a mouse. Just really because it allows you to lounge back in a chair and point at the screen, rather than needing a level surface.

Normally I'd agree with you, but our couch is like right at the distance from the TV where the Remote starts to spaz out a bit, due to range.

Like, if we sit up and learn forward, it picks up fine, but if we're sitting as far back as we can, the actual pointer jumps around a couple inches. So when you're trying to click on some of the smaller links at the top of a page, surrounded by other smaller links, its gets frustrating.

If Nintendo were ever to support any mouse at all, it would have to be this one.

    Have to be.

Thanks to all who gave the handy info without being a douche */me gives Willeth THE EVIL EYE*. Now Ill take my question one step further. Anyone ever have luck with a keyboard that has a built in mouse and have the mouse functionality work properly? That would be friggin ideal. I have trouble hitting a link with my Wiimote if I lean back in my couch as well. The pointer gets all jiggly.

Again, I doubt it. Having that functionality integrated with your keyboard or having it separately in the form of a USB mouse shouldn't make a difference. The functionality still isn't supported by the system. My keyboard has a bunch of fancy media and function keys that don't work in any form with the Wii; a built-in mouse isn't that different.

Might I suggest picking up a slightly stronger Sensor bar or possibly adjusting the sensitivity. It all boils down to the wii-mote not being able to see the sensor bar properly. Dunno if you've tried it but if you go in to system settings you can actually see what the wiimote is seeing when calibrating the sensitivity.

Also, this is kind of cool and actually fairly useful!

Sensor bar extends up to 2 feet long.

Since this thread is about the Wii I'd like to know if anyone has tried one of those wireless sensor bars? Normally I don't care too much about wires, but my family is starting to. I'm also taking care of my sister's dogs for awhilel and they've already knocked a few of my toys over.

If it's temporary, any infra-red light source works. Like candles or whatever. Just don't put them on top of your TV. :)

For a more permanent solution the wireless sensor bars work fine, although use rechargables and have a spare set for obvious reasons.

Yeah, they work great and being it's just two leds the batteries actually last for a long long time. I'm tempted by the one I posted above, it'll clean up even more room near my tv.

I have one. It gets better range than the wired sensor bar for whatever reason. Brighter LEDs, I suppose.
