I love the Lore-Master so far, I mean, fireworks, lasers from the sky, earthquakes and mothereffing sword and staff!! But when I'm in a group, I don't feel like I have a particular role to play.
A little debuff here, back up heal there, throw a fireball at that guy, mezz that other one, are we supposed to be all over the place like that? If so, then it's awesome.

i tag along with a group to kill the goblin leader in lone lands, and their 18 hunter gets some burning oil dot that doesnt have a duration(jump in water?), we get to the first set of elites, he dies to it and then since the group hasnt puzzled out the idea of pulling mobs back we get adds and wipe.
As i'm loading after hitting retreat i hit the x in the top right corner of the window and go play something else.
Crookdell, in Rath Teraig, was a pain to get to. I used my elven stealth until I was caught and then just ran. I died just as I found Crookdell. It was a personal victory.

I learned that too late. I was trying to finish off all my deeds before I continued the epic quest line. If I had known I would have left that one alone.
But I have a strange sense of accomplishment for making it through the gauntlet.
Edit: I also explored the huge Dourhand City and got those points before the story quest to go there.

I too am trying to find one of the spots within Rath Deraig, I have all but 1, and cannot figure out where the last one is.
Also, is there a reason for that Lvl 15 elite spider hiding in that little spider area?
I notice alot of elites of higher level than they should be in areas where they are not.... appreciated. Like the L15 elite warg by L9 bandits (think Appleseed / Jack quests), L22 elite warg in the goblin town near Forsaken Inn... etc.
When dodging sniper fire, make sure to stop for photo op with small child.
Bah, died 2 bars before level 20 and didn't get the stupid title. FEEL BAD FOR ME.
On another note, where are you supposed to go at level 20 and finished most of the early lone lands?
I think I usually went Lone Lands (Forsaken Inn area) -> North Downs (Trestlebridge area) -> Lone Lands (Ost Garuth area) -> North Downs (Esteldin area)
When I'm bored with Esteldin, I make a trip to Evendim, but that's kinda scary before low-30's -- anywhere where the deer and the wolves gang up on you isn't somewhere I want to spend a lot of time.
How many people do we have from Europe playing on US servers? I've heard some bad things about Codemasters service. Even though it says NA/australia only, would I be able to use the US free trial client? Because I'd like to see what sort of ping I could expect.
Are there any special issues with payment, cards etc?

i'm in the same boat is tgbob, pretty much done the forsaken inn, but i don't want to try and solo all the ost garuth shit as a minstrel just yet. Guess i'll try north downs.
There are quests that teleport you between the North Downs and Lonelands now.
I don't know if it has been mentioned in this thread but people should list their PA forum ID in the character's note. That way we can track who is who. It is also good to list any alts or mains there too.

Hi, I'm on the Landroval server and my free trial just ended. I'm a level 12. I bought the game today, and I am wondering if someone could give send me a Founder's Invite? My name on Landroval Warbrand. Plz and thx!
Theres a problem Warlord, I think you'd need to make a completely new account to get the benefit of the founder's account. Course I may be wrong, but thats what I figured.

I'm in Sweden and I had no trouble grabbing the free trial, ping is good aswell. Only slight hassle is that I haven't been able to use my creditcard with Turbine, there's plenty of places that sell retail keys/gametime cards online though so it's not a big issue.
so I've been playing around with UI skins a bit. There's not much. People are still figuring out how to move basic elements around. So far, I've found two skins that are decent. Here's some screenshots of them. I edited these ones a little bit to make the main panel take up less space, as well as a few other cosmetic changes.
Ok, so I started my US trial on landroval. Can't find a ping indicator but I haven't noticed any lag so it seems quite promising.
Currently a level 7 rohan burglar. Seems pretty much like WoW at the moment but with better quests as things actually have an impact, the starting town getting (and staying) destroyed was much cooler than anything I ever saw in 70 levels of WoW. I like the deeds and things too.
Just brought a clarinet and trained as an explorer. Is there a bank or something similar in this game? Or do I have to wait until I can buy a house to store items?
I think I will try out Captain later, although the minstrel and loremaster seem appealing as well. Is there any class that seems to be played less than others?

There are vaults in main cities where you can store a bunch of items (similar to WoW's banks). I think Bree has the earliest one you'll run into but I could be wrong (despite having played in Beta, just started up since then so still a bit rusty).
My main complaints on the game are combat feel, movement and class design. Combat feels vague to me, although I wish I could put it into better words. Movement in Turbine's engines also feels loose. I had this problem with DDO, too, which uses the same engine. I really have this problem in groups, I feel like I'm ice-skating a lot and running around mobs. And finally classes, while neat sounding, don't play all that exciting to me as a whole. However, from people I've talked to higher up, they do indeed have good synergy off of each other in groups.
On the plus sides, it's by far the best designed world I've ever played in. It just feels organic and natural, not a collection of zones put next to each other.
The Role Play (in-character) feel of the game is also second-to-none and is really the first MMORPG I've played that seems to have not forgotten the "RPG" part. Hopefully, as time goes on, this will only get better with more interactive housing items and so forth.
It's also one of the few games I've played where I don't want to level! I just want to play and explore. I will be running around and come across a lake and just sit and watch the bunnies hop by. I love being in the world.
Finally, it's nice seeing a game that learned from WoW but didn't rest on simply copying them. For instance, the way this game handles instances is definitely a 'learned from but improved upon' WoW and is done incredibly. Ie, open world play and instanced dungeons but also instanced versions of the open world for signature quest events. Done very, very well, allowing both open world play and also dramatic scripted story events in the same 'world'.
so i picked up the CE today, since it was the same price as the regular (ps i hate you guys for getting me to buy another game...) i saw in the OP some ways of speeding up the install/patching process. after i install from the discs included in the retail box will i have everything up to book 11? so then i would just grab the torrent and patch to book 12? or is the retail going to be behind the downloadable client? (which is what i fear)
i always end up playing dwarves (cause they're the best) so i'm immediately drawn to a dwarven champion at the moment. but i kinda like the idea of a minstrel or loremaster (or even hunter). anyone want to share feelings on these? i read the OP descriptions but haven't scoured all the pages of this thread yet, so forgive my ignorance.

Options -> UI settings -> Panels, check "Show connection status in alert panel".
also, my connection's been pushed pretty badly lately, pings of >700, and I've still been able to play (though it is a little bit frustrating sometimes.)
I assume I have been unable to respond to whispers because i'm a trialist? Is a specific profession required to dye armour or can anyone do it? I haven't seen an option anywhere but I assume my skill is just too low.

The regular free trial has trade and whisper and mail limitations. The founder's trial has none of these.
God damn this game bugs out a lot, the shortcut keys to everything just stop working all the time for no apparent reason.
Just died on my second character at level fucking 4 because no amount of clicking on a health potion would get the bastard to drink it. I've also been completely unable to get either of my characters to eat food, and right clicking something to equip it works about 50% of the time.

I'm probably going to do one more free trial before I buy, but ultimately for my main I just cannot decide whether to roll a Captain or a Minstrel. The Captain I played to level 13 was "okay," but the description of their role in-game sounds exactly like what I'd want to do in the long run. I've never wanted to be the healer in other games (GW, WoW), staring at other peoples' health bars for the duration of a battle. Yet the Minstrel I played to level 10 was so much fun! Self-heals FTW! How exhilarating it was to take on two level 10 Dourhands and still be standing at the end.
I realize that at level 13 and 10 I don't have the full picture of what either class is capable of, but I want to be able to enjoy myself on the way to level 50, too. What to do, what to do......

Roll both!
Also, minstrels aren't just a healing class. Classes in LOTRO aren't really locked into roles like that; they have multiple talents and can adapt to fill different roles. The minstrels I group with definitely do more DPS than me, the guardian, though I can still take on something my level, one level above, possibly two at a time.

well, yeah, but we killed that elite mob that was at least a level or two above me. That was kind of fun.
Everyone is one.
Hunters don't tank. See the bow.
Unless the hunter is madly embarrased about being a hunter and photoshops his actionbar, the hunter is a champion.
I feel bad for you.
