I've never had to worry about health insurance before because by the time I got off my parents' plan, I was at a job that automatically assigned me to a plan. It was convenient, I just showed my card whenever I went in and paid the $20 co-pay.
But now I'm headed for a seasonal job, starting in mid- to late-March through at least the end of June (maybe longer) and naturally it doesn't have health insurance. Also, I live in Spokane, WA most of the year and this job is in Milnesand, NM.
I've been googling things like "compare medical insurance", which brings up sites that request my zip code, which then give me northwest-based health insurance companies. I tried putting in a New Mexico zip code, but you have to have lived in NM six months to be considered a resident. Bzzzt!
If I go with one of those companies, how will I be affected by the fact that all the doctors on their provider list are 1500 miles away from me? Or are there some national companies that provide similar coverage for all states?
