I need to disable native SATA to install XP

According to some light Googling, the option ought be in my BIOS. It's not. Nothing resembling it. I continue to get the 'blah blah can't install can't recognized HDD'.

How can I recognize as IDE if I can't disable SATA support? :(

Laptop is an Acer Extensa, 4620-4605.

Why do you need to disable SATA? If you're installing XP onto a SATA drive, there should be a floppy disk that came with your motherboard for the drivers that will let you do it.

I don't think I got any floppy discs with my laptop. D:

Does your copy of Windows have SP2 intergrated in it? It has SATA support built into it. The is no reason to disable SATA in the BIOS.

If your laptop is doing what I think its doing, you don't have to disable sata. What I believe you have to do is change from AHCI mode in the bios to Computability mode. I had to do that on a lot of the newer laptops I have tried to reinstall the OS on.
