Melee got a 9.6, with the graphics seemingly bringing down the score. So, with this review I expect to hear how perfect it would be if it had 'Next Gen' features, like voice chat, online leader boards, maybe better graphics (but I doubt this, seems like best graphics to date on the Wii). But bottom line, it'll get another 9.6.
The worst though was, I wanna say it was Gamepro. They had one of those "previews" (in other words, Dojo rehashes), and ended it with a list of things that they considered to be "Good," "Bad," or "Ugly."
Under the "Ugly" column they wrote "3 Kirby characters is 3 too many."

Hey, I have a question for anyone who has had a Wii for awhile and used the wireless often.
I have issues connecting to my wireless router. I think it might be because its an old Linksys but basically I cannot often connect untill I unplug the router for 10 seconds then plug it back in (I beleive this is some sort of soft reset). This was the case with my DS too, but that would work fine after this. With the Wii it keeps disconnecting or running extremely slow. I couldnt DL an update last night, and surfing the shop was very painful. I got it to work before well (I DLed paper mario) but the questionability of it right now makes me fear I might not do well with Brawl online.
So if anyone knows anything about this stuff gimme some hints. I think it might just be the router, but maybe its something I can get around setup wise.

Edit- Apollo Justice Youtube link WARNING! SPOILERS!
For one, they've made many claims that they wish they could fight classic Nintendo enemies in SSE. Like, for example, in the sections involving Link, why not fight Redeads or other classic Zelda enemies? It's like they don't seem to understand that you aren't in the same atmosphere as the games the characters are drawn from. You're fighting an evil force which is completely unrelated, and therefore, he has his own army with his own types of enemies. Of course, they kind of forget that many boss enemies ARE brought from Nintendo universes. They just... want it ALL to be like that. Or something.
While I wouldn't mark off points for Sakurai's decision and was also originally defensive, after some thought I realized how much more totally awesome the Subspace Emissary could have been if almost all the enemies were classic characters rather than generic foes. Keep the Primids where they're due, sure, but a lot of the places could have had classic themes.
Like in the Kirby and Peach/Zelda segment after they fall from the Halberd... wouldn't it have been great if you could tackle 3D versions of our favorite Kirby enemies rather than random clouds and mites? Or at some point klaptraps and kremlings, or geemers and space pirates? From what I see, it just seems like we get a few Mario enemies from the DK segment.
The real deal breaker for me was when I started imagining how completely awesome it would be if in the Olimar/Falcon segment I could pick between mobbing Bulborbs and Bulbears with a swarm of Pikmin just like in the original games, or Falcon Punching them into oblivion. So... awesome...
I'm not hating on a review I haven't read. In fact, I would applaud IGN if they could refrain from bringing their own petty differences into the review when they should be being objective. I'm just making comments what I think the review will say, based on what IGN (Matt, Bozon) has already come out and said regarding the game.
They also complained about loading times (on a blog or a podcast, I forget), which is... beyond me. The loading times in this game are nearly instant most of the time (3 seconds or less). The longest load time I've ever seen has been maybe... 10 seconds (?) for one of the larger custom-made levels.
I mean... seriously. Lost Odyssey apparently had 2 minute long loading times for some of its areas.
If the game honestly deserves a low score, then IGN should inform us of why. I'm just not hoping to see "Metaknight is imbalanced, they should have done more testing", or "long load times dampen the mood" or "SSE needed more Nintendo-based enemies", all of which are complaints I'm sure 95% of the population will disagree with, or are esoteric in nature (there's a reason why SSE has a mix of Nintendo-themed enemies and Brawl-themed enemies, after all... think before you make that comment!).

This is the type of game that just can't score high enough. It's not the type of groundbreaking revolutionary new game that's a 10/10, and anything less than a 10/10 will cause bitching. So it's gonna happen.

I understand the allure, but I believe Nintendo was going for something that made sense as a cohesive whole. So and so characters join the fight, and immediately have to deal with enemies from the main bad guy (Ancient Minister, or whatever... trying to be spoiler free here). How much sense would it make for Link to join the game and immediately fight enemies from his own series? What do they have to do with anything?
I understand it would be fun, and awesome, but I respect what Sakurai tried to do with the game... and I think it's incorrect to claim the other way would automatically be better because you "kind of feel like beating up a Redead with Link right now" or something.
And yes, I'm aware Koopas and Goombas and stuff are enemies, but I believe that's because Bowser is on the dark side and therefore this is in the context of "enemies of the Ancient Minister", since Koopas/Goombas are minions of Bowser. I never thought Redeads would have any particular affiliation to Ganondorf... they're just in the temple, because they're dead bodies who died and are dead.

Well whatever they and every other major reviewer out there rates them will be added up in the GameRankings quota and detract from Brawl becoming the greatest game of all time.

Heh, I don't really care, to be honest. IGN's opinion has never really mattered much to me after a few really bad reviews years back.
I'm just bringing it up as an interesting conversation piece.
If Brawl doesn't get a 10 from IGN, I will eat their children.

Melee was anything but shallow. I still can't grasp half of the competitive concepts (much less put them into practice).
Wow, I'm posting a lot. You know I'm procrastinating from work when this is the case.
This is exactly what I'm talking about. And, to be honest, I think any person who professionally reviews/plays videogames who still thinks this is ignorant.
I'm not a big fan of Halo's multiplayer, but I can see the allure. I can see why people would want to play it. If I had to cover a Halo game, or write a review, I would be open about it, but I wouldn't judge it based on my preferences for games. Same with RTS games; I'm horrible at Starcraft, but I know that there's a deep game there that's been played for 10 years. If I wrote the Starcraft 2 review, I wouldn't plead ignorance about the series, and say it sucks because I just happen to suck at it. I would *gasp* do a little research.
With some people in the media, though, they just refuse to shake the notion that Smash can be played a lot deeper than they play it. Or that Pikachu's down B isn't actually broken. Or that it's only a party game. In the age of Youtube, where you can type "melee tournament" in the search bar and find videos of some extremely high level matches in about 5 seconds, you really have no excuse for being fully researched on a game you're reviewing. It just shows irresponsible journalism, in my opinion. Sure, maybe you don't play like that, or never will play like that, or don't care how they play like that... but at least, acknowledge that it's possible!
