Getting a new job sucks

So I need a new job. I have a temporary job right now that will get me for the next 2 months. But I need a job for after that.

I am a college student working towards my nursing degree (and then beyond eventully) and while I would love to be able to not work at just goto school, that is not an option. I've been hitting up websites like Career Builder and Snagajob, but after several weeks of applying I still have not recieved a single call back.

All my experience is in Fast food (6 years at McDonalds), Retail (6.5 at Gamestop, a year of it Management) with a splash of other (Deli, stock worker). It seems even for small jobs they want completely overqualified people (Borders wants their customer service desk person to have a degree in Liberal Arts?). I have looked through the paper, and to almost no avail and am very afraid of not finding a new job before my current one runs out. H/A what should I do? Thanks in advance.

If you're going into nursing, you're going to be able to write your own ticket. Consider getting something that just pays most of the bills, and taking out student loans (FAFSA?) for the rest of it.

Try jobs on campus. They're usually at minimum wage, but they're dead easy and flexible as hell. If you get one around the hospital or nursing college, it'll behoove you greatly to make some connections.

Why not combine the retail and fast food jobs and wait tables. That is assumeing that you have some people skills. Base wage will be quite low, but tips will put you ahead quite a bit.

Thing is that student loans arn't an option. I have to stay under my dads taxes as a depndent if I want health insurance. And because he makes to much money the government won't give me more then like 3500 dollars a year. As for outside lenders? My family has a super fucked up credit history, every member, my dad my mom my sister, my grandmother, my extended family. So no one will lend me anything. I pretty much have to work a steady full time job and goto school full time.

I've applied at a few places for waiting tables, but so far to no avail.

Not much manual labour going on for a few months, and most of those jobs out here are done by illegals (seriously, I worked construction for cash under the table a few months ago and was "Let go" for a group of illegal mexicans who where paid 2 bucks an hour). Actully Janitorial might not be bad, but I have to find someplace thats hiring first.

I would say try and get a job at a hospital. I have a friend who has been working towards a degree in nursing for the past two years (he has a bachelor's in zoology as well), and he has been working in a hospital in various capacities for over 5 years. He's worked in their dining hall, nutritionist office, orthopedist, and urgent care center. I mean, it's kind of the exact place you need to be.

Not sure but Monster.com has better results in job recommendations. Don't give up but talk to financial consoler about your situation. I had similar case, I was a freshman in college when 9/11 happen. Everyone in my family lost their jobs because we all live near LAX. The lady being local to the area understood my situation and gave me a free ride my first year and ever since then got grants to help me get through college. Also go to a hospital and maybe they can help you out. Just make sure you got the goods to back you up if they would want to give you a scholarship. My advice
