getting the concert smell out of my hair

I went to a Flogging Molly concert last night in Charlotte and now my (shoulder length) hair smells like cigarettes, alcohol, and leather. I washed it three times (Garnier Fructis shampoo/conditioner) and it won't go away. I have a date tomorrow night. What the hell do I do?

    Tomato juice? :)

On a serious side, a friend of mine swears by a light spray of Febreeze, let it sit for like a minute, and then wash the hair. She swears it works.

I've heard lemon juice suggested before as well. Just put some on your hair, let it sit, then wash.

    I've also heard vinegar.

Personally I've never found anything that works too well and I just put up with it for like a day until it's gone or not noticeable.

It's been a while since I've been to a concert hall that stains that badly; how long does it typically take to go away? If it's gone in the morning it won't be a big deal.

Well I dunno... I usually shower immediately after getting home. Then shower again in the morning. Sometimes that's enough to take care of it, other times it's still noticeable but gone after I shower the next morning. Hard to say really.

I'd say don't start getting worried unless it's still there after you shower tomorrow morning. Then maybe try something (lemon juice would be my first attempt unless someone else suggests something better).

I've heard from fire fighters that they use lemon juice to get rid of the smoke smell.

Doesn't lemon juice make your hair sticky/bleach it, though?

Dilute the juice, rinse your hair with the solution, then shower and shampoo. You don't want to use full strength that is for sure.

well... first off you wash it out... don't leave it in, so it won't be sticky. As to bleaching it I have no idea, but again you're washing it off after a bit, so I suspect there's no real bleaching potential. The people that use lemon juice to lighten their hair put it in and leave it in. This results in sticky hair and (occasionally) some lightening.

You could also try dryer sheets. Just rub one through your hair.

I think the lemon juice has a bleaching effect when it's exposed to heat and sunlight; at least that's why my ex put it in her hair before we went to the beach.
