Games You Cannot Beat - Or You Games you just beat and feel awesome
Advance Wars 2. Hard campaign. I could have beaten it with ease. However, I S-ranked every level up until the 2nd last. I spent months trying to S-rank that bastard, to no avail. There was no way I was going to have one ghastly A in amongst all those beautiful Ss. I don't suppose I'll ever do it.
Not really what you asked for, but close enough.
If anyone's got a guide for 'S'ing that level, hit me up.
Same here with Vagrant Story, I would constantly get ripped a new one by that game then I popped it in one time and showed it who was the best damacus wielder out there, I even played through it the second/third time and got all the secret stuff:
I have an FF8 save right before the final boss. I got through most of its forms but lost when it got trippy and started doing multi-target spells with absurdly high damage. I figure I can win with a little more grinding and some better Junctioning -- but all this was over a year ago and by this point I don't care too much about What Happens at the End.
Etrian Odyssey is shaping up the same way. I'm more exciting by the prospect of starting a new game than by the prospect of gaining levels and buying armor to take on the fifth stratum's boss.
FFVIII was a pretty awesome to beat actually. I had overlevelled, and it took maybe a dozen attempts over the course of maybe two months to take the final boss. I remember Zell got the very last hit, just after Squall fell.
The ending movie was so worth it.
Right now I cannot beat Gears of War on insane. Fuck the driving kryll attack bit.
I can't beat Virtua Fighter 5. I used to be awesome at the older school fighting games like Street Fighter alpha 3. But once fighting games moved into the DoA, Virtua fighter, Tekken, Soul Calibur (although I can still win that one), style of game, where every fighter has like 80 different moves, I just can't do it anymore.
With practice I might be able to win, but I just get so frustrated, I'm afraid I'm going to smash my controller to bits, so I stop while I'm ahead .
Whatever happened to Lowkick, mid-kick, high-kick, Low punch, mid-punch, high-punch, high-block, low-block and 3-5 special moves per characters? Those were the days

Seriously. No leaving it open for sequels, no loose ends left untied. A good solid ending. Also it lasted about 45 minutes if I remember correctly, about 20ish minutes of which was FMV.
As for games I can't beat.... Baldur's Gate 2. Its not hard, I just get so far, then get my arse handed to me and realise I haven't saved in ages and just go "eeh" and put it on the backburner for a couple of days. Rinse and repeat.

Sounds like you should get into King of Fighters. It is the great bulwark of oldschool fighting goodness.
....and King of Fighters XII happens to be the game that I just cannot beat right now. My pride won't let me lower the difficulty and that damn cheap final boss just keeps raping me.

Hah --- that reminds me: the guys I lived with in college (4 in a townhouse) would regularly gather around our small TV and play through games together, in both spectator and player roles (my roommate and I were the FF nuts). We were workign our way through FF8, got to the last disc, and EVERY TIME we would trigger some cutscene (I don't remember which one), our disc/game woudl freeze. We must have tried to get past that scene a hundred times.... and I must have asked just about everyone on campus if anyone had a copy of FF8.

I played some KoF after I tried Capcom vs SNK. I remember renting a KoF game shortly after that. It was fun but I didn't get into it as much as I did with the Capcom games.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on NES. I got to the final hallway in the Technodrome once. Hmmm... I might have to get that on VC and try to finally beat it. I never had any problems with the swimming part of it, but I played it on a nearly daily basis.
Battletoads on NES. No other game caused as much damage to surrounding furniture as that one. It was so frustratingly difficult. I can't remember what level I got to on that, but I remember my brother getting to some level where you ride some giant wheel around a winding path, and that was the farthest either of us got. I watched a speed run of it and can't imagine how someone would beat it without taking advantage of the bugs in the game.
Adventures of Lolo III - I was young, okay? I downloaded the first one on VC and beat it really quickly and thought, wow, that was a lot easier than I remembered. I also think around that time my NES was starting to have major problems with loading games, so that didn't help either.
F-Zero GX - God I hate the storymode in this game. It's impossible. The multiplayer is fun though the vehicles are too expensive (I have like, 10 vehicles, but it really doesn't matter). Or maybe they aren't that expensive. I just never liked playing the game alone. Much more fun with friends.
God Hand - Yes, I have beat this game and it feels awesome. What made this game hard for me, was the battle against Belze. He was really tough, since I had only 1 roulette coin against him and there wasn't any more of them in the jars. I basically beat him by running and taunting, when I had enough power to pop up God Hand, I beat him as much as I could. I wish I had a bigger room, I had to put my PS2 away, since I hadn't enough room for Xbox360, Wii and PS2. Now I can't play God Hand.
Devil May Cry 3 - I have beaten this aswell, but I really hate how you had to start from the beginning of the mission if you died and the fact that the bosses were hard as hell didn't make it any better. All the areas were really dark and blurry aswell, which made me a bit bored (played this the last year, so comparing it to the next-gen games, it looked quite crappy in my eyes). Now I have started playing DMC4. I almost like it more in every single way than DMC3. Though it lacks the variety of weapons.

I can't beat Lou on Hard in Guitar Hero 3. Haven't played in a month because I'm so fed up with that boss battle.

Ninja Gaiden - both the NES and the Xbox versions.
It's like a recurring thing with me. I couldn't beat the NES version for years after it came out, then one day I blew out the cartridge, popped it in and owned all the way through it. Flash forward...I dunno 15 years?...same thing with the Xbox version. I got the shit kicked out of me so hard I stopped playing for a year or more, then came back and breezed through it.

Lou in Guitar Hero 3 is simply the biggest game of chance in the world. My roomate played and played (and I boycotted for Rock Band), and was stuck on Lou on Hard for weeks. One night (pre-RB release) I decided to just try to get through the hard tour. I did the whole thing in one night, got to Lou, and beat him on my first try. I got like, a whammy and a triple note thing, and he died. My roomate was super pissed. I havent played the game since. It was TOTAL luck.
My proudest moment? Beating MDK2 on the Dreamcast. I want another MDK game SO BADLY.

WHAT?! I've played the hell out of Sonic 1-4 on the Genesis, those games are so much fun.
Zombies Ate My Neighbours - There are like FIVE BILLION levels and I got stuck towards the last few levels, even when playing with a friend. But man I love that game.

Fucking Super Mario Bros. 2 (Super Mario USA). I used to be able to beat it no problem when I was little, but now the furthest I've managed to get is to the flying bird face door thingy you have to beat just before fighting Wart.

Oh, I played the shit out of 'em, but I've never beaten any. I got to the last boss on Sonic 3, but lost to him.
I've also never gotten more than like four Chaos Emeralds.
Run to the Hills.... I don't know why I can't do it. Sounds and feels right when I'm playing it. I think my drums are broken.
I had the same problem. A friend of mine told me that you could by these gum rubber pads that make them more accurate and responsive, and also springier, that you just stick to the pads with a mild adhesive. Google it, I think a set of four custom made ones costs about $30 or so.

I've never gotten more than like, one. Definitely never beaten a 2D Sonic (except maybe Advance, but that hardly counts.)
I got stuck on Mother Brain in Metroid Zero Mission on hard. That game doesn't fucking screw around on hard. "Oh hey, we're jacking up the damage you take when you get hit. Oh, and by the way, those energy tanks and missile upgrades? Worth half of what they were. Have fun!"

I forgot to mention Killzone: Liberation on PSP. I just suck at it.
Same.

The queen (last boss I think). No matter what I do she one shot kills me about 10 minutes in.
Total Annhilation - Korgoth Encounter
I have played that one mission so many times and I have never beaten it.
The ending movie was so worth it.
Right now I cannot beat Gears of War on insane. Fuck the driving kryll attack bit.
Guitaur Hero - That 98% completion of Bark at the Moon on expert will haunt me for all eternity
I KNOW. The last tier is having its way with me, sans Vasoline.
Also, N+, though I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

The stuff of nightmares.

Try going back, collecting all the djinni, unlocking the final secret dungeon, and beating the boss within. Chaos Dragon doesn't seem so hard now huh?
Yeah... TO THE INTERNET... *batman music*
