I'm setting up a small IP Security System for my work. Essentially we're going to have a computer in a cooled environment with a Verizion Wireless card and a hand full of ethernet cameras attached.
One thing that we need is the abilty to VNC into the box. This in and of itself is not an issue. However, they want a little more security than VNC can offer. I went ahead and installed OpenSSH on the box so we could do a tunnel and VNC through it.
The problem I'm running into is a password issue. I need the box to go right into Windows on startup or in the case of a restart. SSH needs a password tied to that user account in order to be effective.
Is there anyway to have Windows XP login automatically with a password enabled?
Not that I don't like VNC. But wouldn't remote desktop work for this. If it is XP Pro, I suggest using that, but if it is home then I think you need to use VNC.

Are you talking about using the Verizion Wi-fi/Max or the cellular option? Because they have a major impact on the effectiveness of such set ups.
And go to Start -> Run -> control userpasswords2
Make sure the account has a password and simply select it and uncheck the option to require login. If it's a domain, there is a registry key that will do this as well.

Remote desktop is good, unless you have multiple monitors, in which I found it can royally screw up your setup.
But, yeah, you definitely want to tunnel VNC somehow. It sends everything in the clear.
