Can't write to previously writable external HDD

I have a external SATA hdd plugged into my macbook via a sata pci card dealie. I used to be able to transfer movies/tv shows/anything over no problem. I havent used it in a little while, now when I try to use it, it says I can't write to it, only read. I changed nothing on my mac, and I need to transfer stuff over.
Any help?
