So, I made a similar thread a year ago about my hairstyle. I was looking for something different, and I'm looking for some more input on another new style.
This is what I had(which I was told was very feminine :P):
and this is what you guys suggested:
While I was content at the time I got lazy with the styling gel. So right now I just want a cut that requires zero to little prep for it to be finished and looking good.
And just for some insight, this is me as of 20 days ago:
My appointment is tomorrow at 1PM so any immediate insight or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
edit: im also thinking of just shaving my head again... this is what I looked like back in July of 2006:
If you can't be bothered to do anything at all, just shave it. seriously dude, you looked good in the "after" picture where you actually styled your hair.
put it this way -- most dudes look bad if they have a "flop" for bangs. Most male cuts that involve bangs involve a pretty extreme part that puts most of it on one side, so it looks more like a "wedge" than bangs. But your hair isn't long enough to do that seriously. So you end up putting your bangs "up." Or at least off to the side. But seriously, if your hair has any length to it and is otherwise flat, you gotta put something in it in the morning. Otherwise it just becomes a toupé of your regular hair.
I just want to add that for the majority of people - male or female alike - if you want to have a nice look to your hair, it will require *some* effort.
How much effort can scale from simply combing it to hours worth of work, but really, I think that mixing some gel into your hands and running it through your hair once in a given day before you go out or something is near the minimum of what you could expect to have a nice hair style.
Shaving it can actually be more work than people expect too; you'll have to shave it often to keep it at a certain length.

My hair is brushed to the side, not wedged, and I don't think it looks bad. :S

I'd cut it short - not short enough to be buzzed, just short enough to stand up a little on its own or with a little gel/clay/wax/whatever you want. Shorter on the sides & back, bit longer in the front. Rub some product on your hands, run them through your hair from the front to the back - boom, you're golden.

Yeah, i'd spike it up so your hairline is visible. Otherwise the toupee comparisons are inevitable - it does look a bit like a solid piece that may or may not be attached to your head.
Yeah, I'm not digging the flat-across bangs. You look like a 12-year-old boy. Or like me, because that's basically my haircut, but I'm a girl and definitely don't have a little-boy face. Spike it up!
I gotta say - you look pretty good with a really short haircut.
The cropped haircut (your pic, 2006) gives some nice contrast between your face (which is a bit youngish) and the hair (which could be short).
I agree with the sentiment of "spike the front" - just a bit of styling up front (drop those bangs) and you will look very pro.
Your "original" haircut is an abomiation unto the Lord.
Halfway kidding, but you don't want to pair a young face with a feminine haircut (which you claim, and which is correct). You really don't want to be rocking the Wonder Twins look.
Balance your youthful looks with a somewhat harder and more masculine haircut - again, shorter. You don't need a buzz-cut, just a shorter one with a bit of styling and you will look very nice.

Realistically, you'd probably want something short cut although what style/fade you'd want would be up to you and your barber/stylist.
I cut my own hair and usually go for any cut that is below size 4. So I'm afraid I cannot directly tell you what you should tell your barber/stylist.
I'm also starting to ween myself off from gel as it is getting hot now in SoCal and I don't want gel on my face.

just... ugh... they make you look really young, in an unflattering way

Then wash your hands.
Take some hair goop, rub it on hands, rub through hair, rinse hands. Keep doing it.
Theres enough for styling so we'll see where that goes in time.
