Retarded kitchen god shrine death. Whiffed twice against a tank and didn't think to throw any of my copious amounts of meat at until I was down to 4 health, then moved away from it next to a wall and got explodenated.
There is a riceball scroll that will turn any item into a riceball, but I think you need to have that one unlocked first from Fay's Final Puzzle. You could scribe a scroll of Need which will heal, bless, or fill hunger when read. Just make sure that you're fully healed with no cursed items equipped, so it will be sure to fill your hunger when read. Also keep in mind that eating any herb will fill your hunger by 5, even weeds. Good luck!
Thanks. I'll make a scroll of need and save it for when my hunger's almost at 0. Are there any adverse effects for letting your hunger get that low? I don't want to get to 5 hunger only to fall unconscious and starve while I'm out.
You can only write scrolls you have READ in the game so far (stuff done in Fay's Puzzles doesn't count). So even if you as the player KNOW of some particular scroll, unless you have actually read that scroll already at some point in the game you can't write it yet. I'm pretty sure this is the case with the Scroll of Removal for me. It's a very rare scroll that only exists in shops (at least in Table Mountain) that sells for a very reasonable 30,000! So even though I have SEEN IT a couple of times, since I have yet to snag and actually use it once I can't write it on a Blank Scroll.

I tried to rescue you three times and died each time, so I'm locked out from further attempts. Maybe someone else can give it a try?
I might consider making a run but would love a little heads up, any dangerous highlights I should be aware of (I'm not expecting a level by level play by play but were there any particular areas consistently giving you trouble?).
Your first turn on a level is often the most important, scrolls of confusion are a safe bet if the situation looks hairy, then either start killing the most dangerous enemies (rice changers, skull mages, flying fowls etc), or leg it for a corridor.
It's amazing how fast a normal situation can turn fatal if the wrong combination of things happens, I find most of my deaths come when I'm feeling cocky, one-shotting everything, then something ridiculous happens, like a cell armour pinging off my sleepless armband, and a sleep herb flying in from nowhere right after -_-
Just finished the main quest! OH YES!! Finally! After about 4 serious tries, and 30 odd run throughs. Last time I had a katana+38, an armour ward+35 or so. The only reason I died was from those damn armours knocking my weapon and shield into other enemies, thus making my arms DISAPPEAR. I almost stopped playing forever.
This time I decided to use my bufu staff, got a few level 2 pumpkin head ghost meats (which make the last few floors a joke), a mamal meat for the last boss and gear which wasn't quite as powerful; mastersword + 25 and iron shield + 12. In the last room I lured some guys close, put them to sleep, murdered them, paralyzed them, mamal'd the last boss and killed him in one hit. It's cheap, I know, but dying wasn't an option at this stage. Damn it feels good to have finally beaten the main quest of this awesome game.

There was nothing particularly dangerous about it. I think I was just kind of tired and playing recklessly. Make sure to get a Bowboy Meat from level 2 or 3 and stock up on 99 wood arrows. That should make things easier. Plus, it's Kithen God so there's no real risk to the rescuer since you go in with no items. If you haven't tried this rescue yet, then make sure to have nothing in your inventory when attempting it.

Oh I've made many a Food Rescue Run (cleared it once) but I've seen a few very nasty situations, like when you're dropped into a Monster House on some early floor, that can make a rescue pretty impossible. I also know that, via some strategic meat tossing at villagers, I could start off a bit buffed, but I prefer, for the most part, to make the runs un-buffed (having a few levels going in is a BIG advantage but I find really throws me off my pacing with me not taking threats serious enough when I'm able to clear the first several levels blindfolded).
I need help at one of the early levels (7 or something), I would just restart, but I was carrying some decent equipment. Was trying to backtrack to get some of my old stuff and I ended up getting killed by a skeleton wizard

Can I get a rescue? I'm on a really good run right now, but got screwed when a Chainhead and a Fluffy Bunny took on my party, and I forgot that I had unequipped my Polearm. Then I forgot that Fluffy Bunnies heal enemies. After I realized I was unarmed, it was too late, and my party was wiped out and the Chainhead leveled up twice and killed me in two hits or so.

So are the Plains of the Sun directly after the Final Trial? Because I died on that level a few runs ago. It was pretty frustrating. I probably should have gone for a revival, but I had no internet where I was playing, and I was also impatient.
I know this may be a bit late to the party, but could someone help explain this game to me? I picked it up because I used to love Azure Dreams on PS1 and this sounded pretty similar, both being roguelikes. But I really don't know what I'm doing. How do I consistently get better? I know to upgrade weapons and shields but besides that I don't know what I'm doing really. How do jars work? Is there any way to escape back to a town? I'm just not getting the rules of this game.

The absolute best way to learn game mechanics is by doing Fay's Puzzles in the first town. You should also try things (even crazy things), listen to NPCs (they almost always have something valuable to say, especially if a word is highlighted in blue), and don't be afraid to die... a lot. By either dying (or by walking all the way back to the first town,) you will advance sidequests that will make things a lot easier.
There are a bunch of different jars, all with many different uses. In your inventory, choose info when selecting a jar (or any item) and it will tell you about it and what it does. The two main categories of jars are ones you put things in (they will have an Insert menu option), and ones that you push (that have Press as a menu option.) There is also an old man in the bar in the first town (canyon hamlet) who will give you a detailed explanation about jars.
You can get back to a town by finding the stairs and choosing Back instead of Go to return you to the previous level. You can't go back after level 16 though. It even tells you so before you venture on.
You may also want to reread this thread from the beginning, as it has a lot of great strategies and info.
Hmm. That code didn't work. One of us must have messed up. Can we try again? I'd hate to lose my progress, especially since I'm carrying my only Bufu staff right now.

I just accidentally put my best weapon into a Change Jar. Damn it. :x I had all the bonus damage mods, the Unbreakable Pickaxe mod, and had just melded my only Bufu's Cleaver into it too.

It is so easy to do given that your weapon will mostly be the first item in the inventory list. It's like it is a trap!
EDIT: Not to be pushy but is anyone attempting my rescue? This is the longest I've gone cold-Shiren for a while :-)
Retarded kitchen god shrine death. Whiffed twice against a tank and didn't think to throw any of my copious amounts of meat at until I was down to 4 health, then moved away from it next to a wall and got explodenated.
Can't you see how you CAUSED my most recent brain dead death!? :P
I was about to make my second attempt on your rescue when I came up with a bulletproof idea. I'll snag my primo equipment and one of my many extra meat jars out of storage for some in town pre-buffing. It started off easily enough but then I realized, oh yeah, you can't heal up in town (no healing or food consumption seems to happen in town). I got up to third level and was about to take on a Rice Boss. Sure I was damaged, didn't bother to bring along revival herbs, or even some sort of clever backup plans to confuse or sleep the baddy if things got out of hand. Heck, I could have even just TOSSED a riceball at the bastage, but no, I was going to fight him. He hit me once and I was out.
This either had to be pure brain fartage or that, quite sadly, I might have been trying to sabotage myself so I could start building up a new weapon and shield, not really sure.
All I know is that I place the blame SQUARELY on THE MOLE since this spurt of genius occurred while trying to rescue you. :winky:
All rescue requests must come with story of how you died, it's the law.
Law? >.> Oh, oops.
I was just trying to get to a stupid stairway, when all of a sudden, I stepped on an immobilization trap... a ghost-pumpkin thing came from the side and started attacking me. Seeing that he was still in the wall, I couldn't hit him, and I couldn't move from the spot either.
Eventually some giant that throws its head came out from the side room just as I got out of the immobilization... my partner, the blinder lady, fought valiantly against him... but eventually died.
Seeing that my life was low due to the rather annoying surprise attack from mr. pumpkin head, I made a run for it. The stairway was just in the next room, so I decided to cast a sleeping spell just before I left that room.
I was almost to the stairway, when they suddenly woke up, and were twice as fast as my ass... they cut me off, and pounded me to the ground.
X_x The end.
Can anyone explain the benefit of pickaxes? I've never really found anything using them.
There are sealed-off rooms full of gitans sometimes.
Use a scroll of light to find them.
Interesting. Well that'll give me less to hoard.
I realized I'm missing an ally, after all this time. I've paid off the restaurant and got the melding pot, but Pekeji is missing. I gave him the money and he disappeared. What bar is he in?
I just accidentally put my best weapon into a Change Jar. Damn it. :x I had all the bonus damage mods, the Unbreakable Pickaxe mod, and had just melded my only Bufu's Cleaver into it too.
Just so you're aware, the trick you can use to get rare items out of Fay's also works to get Bufu Cleavers and staves out of the kitchen god shrine, so at least you can replace that one.

Thanks, I figured that out this morning. I had tried doing the trick before but I hadn't cleared the dungeon yet so my Bufu's Cleavers always disappeared when exiting the dungeon.

They are also useful if there's a trap right in the doorway. Just dig around it and be on your way.
When unbreakable I also will occasionally use it just to make a shortcut to some room so I don't have to go all of the way around the map to get to some room only a quick hop away.
Also, any clue if this game bothered with the "hidden treasure" deal found in Torneko 3? I first caught that while whizzing down a hallway in Torneko 3 once in a blue moon my character would stop for no apparent reason. There was no monster, doorway, hallway intersection, or turn that could easily explain why I was stopped. Later I was told when that happens to whip out my pickaxe as odds are there is some object hidden right there in one of the walls. While these items often weren't anything that great it was interesting how they could be items not normally generated in that dungeon in Torneko 3.

And to state the only-obvious-if-you-know-about-it take one to a blacksmith who''l make it unbreakable then meld it with your sword and now your sword can tunnel through dungeons. Extremely usefully for dealing with enemies who can move through walls and attempting thefts from dungeon shops.
I died stupidly while building up a nice shield (Walrus + Hide + something else), and I'd rather not lose it.
I'm quite early on, just in the Mines in fact...
OK then, I'm giving you all 48 hours or you're off that case. And none of your maverick shit either, I want it done by the book. :P
