No, that was just a religious character. Which is true to reality considering something like 80% of Americans are religious. I'm pretty sure it was already established that there was supposed to be a settlement in Vermont, and it is not uncommon for people to use their radio during disasters (Neville was broadcasting on all frequencies). She was a character meant to contrast the cynical view of Neville, who continued to deny her throughout.

Too bad he agreed with her at the end.

Still the point was that there was still a religious factor in the movie.

Edit: Also I figured her character was more about keeping faith which is somewhat of a religious message.

Agreed with her at the end? Hmm, when given a choice between
    1) we all die, or 2) i die while taking these guys out and you make a break for it

what would anyone do? It's not agreeing, it's making a judgment based on circumstances.

If not for a religious character, would her fanatical hope make for a believable character?

Unless there was some other scene I can't recall where Neville breaks down and asks Jesus as his personal savior blah blah, I haven't seen the movie since theatres.

Edit: keeping faith/having hope can be a religious message, but is not necessarily religious. I hope that the Canucks will win the Stanley Cup. Does that make it religious? No. Will they win? Probably not. If they happen to win? Still doesn't have anything to do with religion, and I sincerely doubt God would help them win, i.e. it would be coincidence. Do you see my point?

A movie doesnt need Jesus to be religious. And the agreeing part was him agreeing that she came there for a reason which is what she was saying before, that she was brought to him for a reason. The reason being was that she was supposed to take the cure from there.

Also, he makes the decision to side with her in the end because he sees the butterfly tattoo on the girl, remembering that his daughter before dying horribly said "look at the Butterfly Daddy" or something to that affect. Then he's like "lolol Gods destiny for me!" and whatever.

The entire ending of the movie is balls religious connotations aside.

ahh, i forgot about all the stupid cure stuff. Yes, that was pretty lame. But if they didn't have that, yet still had a religious character, I don't see how a religious character without a religious message would be a bad thing.
