So how many rescuers/survivors are in a game?
And should I try to make each cowboy a seperate character? Or more like a selection of generic cowboys like the characters in Counter Strike?

We're going with eight players max. But for now I'd be happy if we had like four total cowboys. And as far as generic vs characterized, just go with whatever you're most comfortable with. They all need to have the same basic body proportions so they match up with the valve rig, so don't make any fat midget people or anything.
So we really need guys to do sound, and more modellers. Ideally guys who specialise in character modelling. Also, we're tired of seeing people who want to help when they see something that's already cool, we want more people who actually want to make awesome things of their own. Did we use all those up already?
I'm still trying to figure out how to get my models into Source. I've basically stalled at the point where studiomdl gives me an error that I can't figure out.
I would love to help.
However, I'm not very artistically inclined.
I would however gladly help with pretty much anything else. (level design, playtesting, coding, footage recording/editing)
Admittedly I’m still practically a rookie when it comes to coding but since I have a huge amount of free time at the moment I would gladly take some time to study the source engine.
Essentially what I’m trying to say is I'll gladly become part of the project team if I am given a chance to attain the skills required.
Well we're all about givin' dudes a chance, mang. Why don't you see if you can work out a health bar for the HUD? Slapdash might be working on it but it seems like a decent enough project to start on.

That's from GUIStudioMdl; I think studiomdl gives the same thing or something very similar.

I'm still in for sounds no matter how spontaneous I work- give me an assignment and I'll do it.
I'll do music as well- anything you need music for specifically? I already put up a piano piece and a western guitar/harmonica song on the boards.
Man, I might actually be interested in trying a cool zombie cowboy...but they'd be really stylized and funny. (I'm only used to making pretty cartoonish proportions. You saw my Zergling awhile ago, I think), but I'm so unaware of how to use the Source engine, so I'd just be LOL Maya

That's okay I'm about as unaware as you are. Here's some stuff that got me 95% of the way there, at which point I hit an error:

Can you at least let us know you're still alive now and then, duder? Your gun sounds do the job just fine but then you just sod off and we don't hear from you for weeks all the time. Right now we need sounds for the winchester rifle and double-barrelled shotgun. Get on that!

One or more of us can help you get your models from Maya to Source, definitely. Start modellin' somethin' by all means. We'll pretty much definitely use it unless it's total shite.

If you own HL2 or any of the Orange Box games, just open Steam, go to the Tools tab, then Source SDK. The Create a Mod wizard will give you all the source code.
In actuality my problem was not appending "_idle" to "saw" which in retrospect is pretty boneheaded. In any case do you mind if I kiss you or something? Also I just noticed you live in Brisbane. This makes you like the fourth person I know in Brisbane.

Kiss his girlfriend instead.
I don't know which alternative he'd be less happy with.

We've had this like a trillion times, usually when the model wasn't in the folder that the .qc specified it should be. Theoretically shouldn't matter but apparently often does. Make sure all the files are in models\propstest.

Honey I'll do both.
BUT I'm a lazy person, so I need deadlines to work with or I won't do it.
Give me a deadline.
Maybe it ALREADY IS.

Yeah, I had the normals looking good before, but I had to make a change and accidentally changed the version I had before I softened normals.
That's an awful pun, you should feel bad
