My nose has started bleeding three times over the past 12 hours, one of which was goaded into an encore after I was cleaning out my nose afterward. Why could this be happening? I don't do no drugs, and I haven't experienced a drastic change in climate/weather, however it has been kinda cold lately. Also, I am sick, and I've been coughing a lot recently. That probably has something to do with it, right? Or is there another sort of general-purpose nosebleed reason? Thank you!
If it's really cold and dry, that could be causing your nosebleeds. A good all-purpose solution (I often get nosebleeds in the winter when it's dry, and in the summer when I'm blowing my nose a bunch thanks to allergies) is to keep a humidifier in your bedroom. You'd be surprised what a difference it can make to put some moisture in the air.
I used to get nosebleeds a lot as a kid. I've always had bad allergies, and I live in Arizona, so that didn't really help. The main issue I had was that I had some arteries really close to the surface of the inside of my nose that would start bleeding at the slightest provocation. And after I got a nosebleed it was really hard to not get another one soon after. Sneezing, wrinkling my nose, turning over in my sleep, all kinds of things would cause it.
All that probably doesn't apply to you, but the solution might. I ended up getting the troublesome arteries cauterized. The doctor used what looked like a long matchstick with some kind of chemical on the tip. It stung a bit when he did it, but since then I've had very few nosebleeds.
I got nosebleeds a lot in high school; my issue was that I had a vessel that was too close to surface of the inside of my nose. If it keeps up for a while, go to a doctor and see if this is the issue. All they ended up doing for me was cauterize the inside of my nose, I haven't had a nosebleed (on that side of my nose) in 7 years because of that.
It's pretty rare that this happens though, so it's probably one of the other causes that people have mentioned before. I'd definitely see a doctor if it keeps up, but it's not something to necessarily be overly worried about.

All I can imagine from this quote is the scene in Rambo 3 where he puts the gunpowder on a wound and lights it to cauterize it, and applying that technique to this problem... Or a lightsaber up the nostril... I can't imagine a scenario where nosebleeds aren't the lesser of the two evils... I know it ain't all that, but just that line made my nose cringe. ;-)
I got nosebleeds a lot as a kid/teen. As a kid, it was chalked up to chlorine in pools(Lots of swimming) and as a teen I lived in the dry environs of Anchorage, which did nothing for nostril structural integrity.
My recommendation isn't so much for the before part... Like you, I usually had problems with a nostril relapse from tryin to get the gunk out afterwards, so I just learned to let it be for a little while (as long as you can stand, but at least 15-30 mins) before tryin to evacuate the area. Let the area clot a little better before trying to clear a path...

Drink more water and if it doesn't stop, you might want to call your doctor and ask if you should come in.
