Because Lave II is a little bitch: PC RPG goodness
That's computer RPG, not console. Classic-style D&D adventures, similar to Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale, and dungeon crawlers akin to Nethack and ADOM. I like depth, but there is also an attraction to RPGs oriented towards the casual crowd, such as FastCrawl. Graphics are preferred, and it would be fantastic if I could find it online, and if there's a demo available.
I have not, no. I hear it's very dialogue-heavy, and the combat sucks, and I'm looking for something a little more...balanced. I remember an indie CRPG coming out sometime last year that was similar to Ultima, but I can't remember what it was.
I could call it 'Western RPG' if that would please you, but I've never heard the acronym WRPG before so I used CRPG instead. It's not an uncommon term around here.
Anyways, I'll check out Geneforge, NWN2 and MoTB. Thanks for the suggestions.

Eschalon Book 1, perhaps? Avernum 5 also came out quite recently.
Edit: Or if it does exist it is stupid beyond all belief.
I believe "CRPG" was originally intended to differentiate computer RPG's from their pen-and-paper forebears, and as such, the acronym has been around for as long as CRPGs have.
I second Geneforge. Any of the spiderweb software games, actually. The graphics initially make you recoil, but you forget about them in a couple minutes because of how awesome everything is.
1) Why in the last week have people started deciding that the term CRPG exists?
2) Why do they make identical thread topics about it?
3) One for Console RPGs.
4) One for Computer RPGs.
5) Both groups deciding that their use of the ambiguous C is best.
It's idiocy on a base level. Why not have a topic called PC RPG goodness.
How much does a P and a space cost these days?
I've decided that CRPG stands for Crappy RPGs and so have recommended Breath of Fire 2. Zing!

Eschalon, there we go. I liked the demo, any opinions on the full game?

I just find the fact that I've been on this forum for years and it's only just popped up strange. I mean we've got G&T and CT we don't need to specify.

Damn it Lave! Why the hate on BoF2!?
I played it on the GBA and it was boredom on a base level. I'm sure it's good for it's time, but it's aged terribly, and it's translated very badly, but not badly enough to be good again. I do tend to hate JRPGs nowdays though so I'm biased.
To attempt to be helpful to OP I would recommend Oblivion, but that's obvious so I'll throw a curve ball and recommend Sid Meir's Pirates. Because why not.
Planescape is the king of computer RPG's. Sure the graphics are dated, combats pretty simple and theres a fuck ton of fetch quests, but the sheer awesomeness of the writing crushes these issues.
Other good games...
Fallout 1+2. actics is kinda hit or miss, but FO:BOS is unmitigated irredeemable shit.
Gold box games: Hard to find and require some crafty dos skills to get running but oh sweet jesus are they good.
Hey, I heard you all were discussing the best RPGs here, so I'm going to shill for my favourite game from my buddies at SSI, Shattered Lands.
Kickass setting, interesting locations, decent graphics, the best UI ever, and no real time nonsense.
The sequel, Wake of the Ravager, has aged very poorly, and is buggier than Fallout 2. Not recommended unless you are a hardcore Darksun nerd, like me.
SSI doesn't really get the love it deserves for all the AD&D awesome it gave us. Check out the Genie's Curse, too. One of my favourite games as a kid, I played it at least as much as Link to the Past. Its aged decently. A solid action RPG with an interesting plot, before interesting plots were considered necessary, solid graphics, and a cool Arabian style setting.
And if you haven't played BG II yet.....well....you have your work cut out for you. Baldur's Gate II is AD&D. Enough said. Perfection in digital form.
The reason it is stupid is that a large number of western RPGs get console releases these days, and CRPG and CRPG mean two completely different things.
Don't mind the fact that the combat in Planescape: Torment isn't as good as in say, Baldur's Gate. It's still fine, the spell effects look awesome, and the dialogue, story and setting will largely make you ignore any inadequacies in the combat.
If you want an RPG with a bit more balance to the combat, The Witcher has a fairly good system. You put skill points into the combat skills and spell skills (there are only 5 spells but you can level them quite significantly as well). Combat consists of choosing the right stances for the situation (and investing points into those stances) and timing your clicks in order to string together combos. Beyond that it's about the potions and oils you mix up and use so that you can take on various enemies more efficiently. I'm only playing on medium difficulty so the potions are useful but not necessary. I understand that on hard difficulty you really need to make use of potions if you're going to survive.
It's a very good RPG in general, you get a fair amount of freedom to make your own decisions as to what to believe and do. A lot darker than most Tolkienesque RPG's that feature Dwarves and Elves and stuff. The Demo covers the entire first act apparently, and that's quite large (although you don't REALLY get to start investing in your skillsets until you get more levels). It also looks quite good, so all in all it should be what you're looking for.
I've heard good things about Arx Fatalis, an older RPG set underground. I've heard it compared to the Ultima Underworld series.
Anachonox is a good Western RPG but with systems similar to a JRPG, especially the combat system. The graphics are VERY old (this is a quake II engine game). But if you can look past all that it's a pretty awesome game, very witty and you get to explore a pretty cool sci-fi future with a bunch of weird characters.

It was intended as a sequel, apparently. I haven't played the UU games myself, but the game is pretty open about what you can do. Your character develops based on the traits you assign to him. So if you were to invest most of your points in combat-oriented skills, you'd be able to run around in plate mail wielding long swords of doom or whathaveyou. If you invest more in magic skills, then you're able to cast some of the higher level spells. And with stealth, you're able to rob pretty much everyone. Or you can mix and match, and just play the game however you want.
The game was developed by Arkane Studios, who also made Dark Messiah. I've been keeping up with a Let's Play of two guys running through the game, and it seems like it's pretty fun. The story is nothing to write home about, but the game has a lot of style in terms of battle mechanics.
edit: That second bit was about Dark Messiah, in case I wasn't clear.
If you don't mind really really boring games, there is Anachronox.
Granted it's a slow game, but if you install the fan-made patches you can fast forward through pretty much whatever you want. You can even FF through the combat.

Take that back you goddamn son of a bitch
Ha, I was just typing this into amazon to see how much its going for second hand (to see whether I should sell my copy or give it away) and I typed "Breath of Dire 2"
Ho ho Freudian slip!
You see. Because it is dire.
Sorry, I don't mean to be one of those guys, I'm glad you like it. Most JRPGs aren't for me anymore, so very traditional ones won't cut it at all.
Also, although it's very out of left field in terms of RPGs, try Escape Velocity. It is addictive and excellent and you can basically play the entire thing in the demo version if you feel like it.

I pre-limed it to save everyone else the trouble since it should get quoted over and over if anyone here isn't crazy.
Arcanum.

You sir are the most considerate person I've seen on the forums.

The combat isn't very good though.
Computer Japanese Paper n Pencil Massively Multiplayer Live Action Role Playing Game? That would be FFXIII, duh.
But yeah, lots of good ones have been mentioned already. The Fallouts, Planescape, Arcanum, Elder Scrolls, etc etc.

Moving on, I am ashamed to reveal that I have never played any of the Baldur's Gate games before.
This will be here until I receive an apology or Weedlordvegeta get any consequences for being a bully

Rather worse combat than Planescape, mind you, but a good game.
And again, Planescape: Torment.
