At least some of Zack's accessories enable him to use abilities normally reserved for Materia, like the godly accessory you get for completing every single mission. And he can equip up to 4 accessories, 2 at the beginning.

Feels very Kingdom Heartsy, what with no armor but tons of accessories, hanging midair while you swing your sword, and Zack even holds his sword while running like to Sora does in KH2. Not that there's anything wrong with KH, we need more RPGs outside of the turn based affair. I just hope KH:BBS isn't too much like Crisis Core, what with the KH team being behind CC.

Yeah it really does feel a lot like KH. I guess thats just the way that engine works. Kind of like how everything looks like playdoh and plastic in the unreal 3 engine.

The whole limit break wheel thing still makes no sense to me. I mean it seems absolutely totally random. Sometimes it scrolls forward and then for no reason at all it goes "HAHA FORWARD IS FOR CHUMPS" and scrolls backwards. Make sense you stupid random slot machine! I got my ass handed one of the rematch mission because you kept deciding I didn't need that limit break.

Also jesus Arieth is made out to be a total dumbass in the first scene with her...

It seems that some of the dialogue from the Japanese release has been changed a little to become infinitely less emotional and wholeheartedly more awkward. Although I guess it's kind of subjective.

Crisis Core will take you around various locales in Gaia, yes.

The fact that this isn't the finale of the FF7 compilation makes me smile.

I still have hopes that it can be remade for the PS3! Oh god, it would blow my mind.

Fuck, even if they port Before Crisis as the finale I will be happy.

What the hell? I want me some Turk love.

Yeah, the limit breaks are definitely looking as if they are total random which really sucks when you're in the heat of battle thinking you're going to get a limit break just to watch the DMZ get nothing at all.

And I agree that Areith is a complete dumbass in the first scene. I was actually cringing at the interaction between her and Zack.

Well, at least the DMW presents a limitation on how many Limit Breaks you get, unlike in FFVII where you just had to take enough damage before you could unload an Omnislash.

I can endure the randomness all for the hilarity of the Cactaur thing.

They are randomized, yes, but there are several factors that come into play as to how often you can achieve them.
SP, DMW completion percentages, spirit are the main factors iirc.

I always prefer my fantasy characters to have fantasy type names. Aeris sounds too common, Aerith gives it a bit more uh, fantasy appeal. Plus it matches with Sephiroth. Even Tifa was supposedly named after Tifareth, an angel.

But then again I've also noticed: Tifa+Aerith=Tifareth?

    Mind blown.

    Umm hull-llooooo? :rotate:

The DMW doesn't put a limitation on how many limit breaks you get. I did like 8 limit breaks during this one boss fight that made it super easy.

On a related note does everyone else agree the superman Zack limit break is totally the best.

You know, my one and only concern about this game is that the DMW will be obnoxious. I've pretty much accepted it's random nature, and now I'm just hoping it doesn't pop up every 5 seconds and interrupt the pace of the gameplay.

So how often do you get that full screen spin, anyway?

    It's random.

I've had battles where the DMW system didn't show up at all and some battles where it kept popping up.

For me, it ruins the pace of the gameplay when the DMW system pops up just to not get anything out of it.

Not really. The Crisis Core team was developed by the Before Crisis team and KH:BBS is, apparently, being developed by a new team. While I'm sure some of the KH staff were "loaned" around, the main KH team should be working on FF Versus XIII.

Btw, did you all really get your hands on early copies? I mean, I've no doubt some of you could have but there seems to be an awful lot in this thread with them. I really hope we don't have any pirating asswipes around here.

Birth By Sleep is being handled by the Chain of Memories team, I believe. They said there would be some card use going on but....well I hope they change their minds about that.

How are you guys playing this early? Some stores broke street date, or did you perhaps make use of the PSP's rather exploitable features?

Edit: Nevermind. Have any of those stores happened to be Best Buy?

I played quite a bit of the japanese version that a friend imported. Can't speak too much about the story due to the fact I don't speak the language of the moonites. But I can talk about this DMV or whatsit.

It's a neat system, and it works in theory, but in action is it EVER annoying. As said, you have zero control over it, it just keeps spinning. But you also can't skip any of it. To boil it down, it's a 10-15 second unskippable cutscene every ~30 seconds on average. You can go stretches where it doesn't go off, and where it goes off all the time. I'll break it down.

You get two matches, and the slots come up and you lose control. Now the middle wheel is spinning, and any of these can happen:

-It doesn't match up, and nothing happens. Thanks for wasting my time
-Sometimes, pictures of some cutscenes show up for no real reason. I guess they're memories or something, but I had a few that weren't even about Zach. Other times, you see a short little clip with him and the person in question who's on the reels. Despite tacking on the time you're staring at it, these do nothing. They can still show up, and you won't get the match. Even more time wasted. (Side note: You CAN skip the clips thankfully, but NOT the CGI thumbnails)
-Sometimes when the reel stops and it's not a match, it can either force down a notch, or just click through again. Hard to explain verbally, but the reel is cheating in your favour. Most of the time anyways, sometimes you STILL don't get a match for the time spent.
    -You get a match. Obviously.

So, when you do get a match, which does happen more often than not, you get the little limit break scene come out. But once again, you can't skip this. They only last about 10 seconds or so, but it's even MORE time you're not playing. They look cool, but after the 10th time, you just want to skip through it and PLAY. And as I mentioned above, at the worst of times, this can happen every few seconds. I was doing a mission, and was getting my ass kicked, so I decided to let myself die 'cause I wanted to see the Game Over screen as well. So I put the PSP down. The game still proceeded to give me 3 limit breaks, and I ended up winning the fight. Without ever pressing a button.

That's the problem with the whole system. It just keeps taking control away from you. You can't ever choose to do the limit breaks, they just happen whenever they want to. I know a lot of people here were annoyed at FF7's lengthy summons. While we're not talking KOTR here, they're still about 15 second bits that happen at random, with no way to skip them. Basically imagine if FF7 would randomly cast Ifrit at any time, and that's what you have here. I don't mind limit breaks and summons and clips and stuff when I can control when I see them, but this is whenever the game wants. And I can't imagine people here not getting very annoyed with it real quick.

Well from what I've read, it seems the DMV system was specifically designed to explain
how Cloud inherits Zack's abilities and memories once his time comes.

I always figured that was the result of
the Jenova cells within Cloud, coined as "mimetic ability" in AC

but maybe it was a factor of both. It was even revealed in Aerith's short story that
the Omnislash was originally Zack's final Limit Break.

I don't think it does. I can see the DMW bothering people, but if you're the kind of person who enjoyed FFT or even Disgaea I can't see how you'd get annoyed with this. It's not that frequent unless you go nuts trying to up your SP points or something.

Honestly though if you havent ever played ff7 there isn't any point in playing this. It's a pretty good game if your a fan of ff7 but if you have no attachment to the setting or characters I don't think you will enjoy this very much.
