Guys, do the Usurper quests. Get your renown up nice & high (tournaments are good for this), and then find one of the "rightful" claimants to the throne of the various nations and tell them you're going to get them their country back. And then enjoy a whole new game.
First off, congratulations Mr. or Mrs. High Commander - any enemy lords you talk into joining the rebellion take orders from you now, and their holdings automatically switch sides with them. As you wander the lands with your armies at your back, guess who gets to decide who is given the villages and castles you liberate? You may not want to suggest *all* holdings be given to yourself, as your liege and the other lords will get jealous, but you can still look out for #1 a fair bit.
Right now I've taken all but 2 castles and Praven in my quest to restore the rightful Queen of Swadia, and the lords who have defied me are holed up in 1 castle. The Usurper Harlaus has just escaped from captivity amongst the nords so things may get interesting. I've given myself 1 castle and a small handful of towns for income, and have suggested Queen Isolla keep enough for herself that I'm firmly in her good graces. Once Swadia is ours, I expect her to reward me well when I begin our invasion of the Rhodoks.
So I just got this game to days ago. Are there any resources on quests. Currently I am confused on how i am supposed to capture 5 Khergit Horsemen.
Any newbie guides to the different kingdoms?

Capturing 5 Khergit Horseman would require smacking down enough khergit armies/caravans to capture 5 of them (protip: use blunt weapons to knock them unconcious).
As for the differing kingdoms:
Nords - Awesome infantry, your higher level troop all have bows, but no dedicated archers, and no cavalry whatsoever. Think Vikings.
Rhodok - The Swiss, from what I can tell. Specialties are Pikemen and crossbows.
Khergit - Mongols. All cavalry/horse archers. Great on the open plain, not as great in forests, kinda rubbish assaulting castles (no real heavy infantry).
Swadians - You want Knights? They got knights. Decent infantry, but their specialty is heavy cavalry. Germans, I guess.
Vaegir - Best damn archers going. Good light cavalry, okay infantry, but they bring the longbows, british-style.
Mixing troops from different nations can be effective, but morale can suffer if people are fighting alongside enemies. Mercenaries are a good compromise there, but they can be expensive to recruit.
So I don't know if anyone is still interested in this, but apparently they have updated to .960, supposedly the last beta before they release 1.0 later this year.
Can I get a slightly older version off of fileplanet then update it to the new one, without paying? I'd rather spend 2 minutes downloading it then updating it than 40 minutes downloading it off of their site.
but it's effectively a demo until you pay since you're level capped at 6
I... know... I just wanted to find a stand-alone patch from .955 to .960 since I downloaded .955 in 2 minutes as opposed to 40 (I'm still waiting for .960).
There have been literally dozens of threads about Mount & Blade in my time in G&T, and it is finally getting the retail release it deserves.
As of today the game is available from Gamersgate for €29.99/£23.76/$42.27, they are still selling it direct for €22.47/£17.80/$31.68, and they say a serial bought direct will work with version 1.0 too (which is I assume what Gamersgate have up too). If anyone is more in the know about pricing and availability, then please let me know. It will also be getting a boxed retail release, but I imagine this will be the most expensive way to get it.
If people want to get it from Gamersgate, maybe we should start up a referral chain similar to the goozex thread, since gamersgate give you 10% of what you send them in referrals in store credit. Mine is here, if you buy it from gamers gate via my link, let me know and I will add yours to the OP.
So, what is mount and blade?
It's a kickass open ended medieval action RPG, made by a Turkish Couple.
The World
Mount&Blade places you in a dynamic world alive with action and detail. NPC groups in this world are continuously active, journeying, looking for enemies and engaging in battles with each other, whether you are there to see them or not. It is, in a way, a very real world. Events unfold and some quests are resolved through the world's own dynamics.
Combat
Battles in Mount&Blade require a high degree of concentration and user involvement. A few powerful blows can take you down, and there is no such thing as a "healing potion", therefore you must stay alert and parry or dodge each and every blow. This is difficult, but when you enter a pitched battle against five dark knights, and emerge as the last man standing, you will know that you deserve your reputation as the finest swordfighter in Calradia.
The Commander
Even a formidable fighter can be overwhelmed by numbers and enemy parties tend to be strong in numbers in Mount&Blade. Therefore if you want to stand up against them, you will have to raise your own band of soldiers. Peasants will join your band with nothing more than their farming tools. And in the firebed of battles, they will either perish or be hardened into professional warriors, while you yourself will evolve from a lonesome adventurer to a seasoned and cunning commander, and a force to be reckoned with.
Characters and Quests
An absorbing world featuring vivid characters, realistic dialogues and intuitive quests adds to the excitement of the game and establishes the atmosphere.
While being a light-weight game, Mount&Blade is neverthless exciting, addictive, and revolutionary. We invite you to join in the fun and ride your horse to the adventures that await you in the Calradian plains...
Here's some screenshots:
And it is made by two people.
I strongly suggest you check out the demo, and see if you're interested.

Better sound effects
Better graphics
GREAT animation
The menus can seem a bit dark, but they are ultimately better, especially the stats screens

Things I have noticed so far:
Better graphics
Better sound
New animations for running and jumping (jumping one is hilarious)
Reworked UI
Adjusted prices on items (much, much more expensive)
New items (masterwork items that are really strong)
New seller list priorities: Items are no longer classified by type, but solely by quality.
i'm downloading the new version right now. i've been playing .960 for like the past two weeks.

It's kind of funny, I had completely stopped playing Mount and Blade over a month ago. I checked the website on a lark and, lo and behold, the new version had been released mere hours ago! I was happy.

Hell yes. I haven't played this game in about six months. I think I'm going to do a two-handed melee character this time, since I've played a lancer and an archer to the point where the game stops being fun.

I always mix archery with two handed melee. Need a little variety.

The site takes a while to get updated to the current version for some reason.
Maybe it sounded slightly different

Thread about it on the taleworlds forum
70 rhodock sharpshooters, 40 swadian knights, 15 nord huscars, yeah baby
It's the full game either way, I just wanted a faster way to do it because their site is slow.
