Helping Ladies is a good way to make some good cash, however it makes the dude fucking hate you which can make becoming a marshall a bit tougher.
Also give Alayen a lance and he'll kick the shit out of Rolf any day, no wasted points into that tactics garbarge
I found Alayen but didn't pick him up because his manner offended me. Also, the other dude in the tavern was willing to join for free and I was poor. I'll have to check him out next time.

I have a character with a heavy great axe, and 7 points into power strike
When riding, I kill enemy horses first hit, so I ride around taking out horses and letting my viking mans clean up.
I took out 20 Caravan Guard horses in one match, stupid caravan guard.
The best part? Huscarls actually used weapons they looked just like the heavy great axe
And there were numerous reports of horses being cleft horizontally in half by Huscarl guard

I prefer a good old fashioned one handed axe and shield. I kill lots of dudes this way
Wish I could find a bigass double headed axe though
So apparently Mount & Blade and ATi don't get along. I have an HD4850 and all the models look bright red and occasionally the ground disappears and is replaced with the sky. I looked on their forums and found that the solution is to scale back to DX7, which worked, but the graphics have suffered a bit.
However I'm still playing this game feverishly as always, allying myself with the Rhodoks on this play-through. (Last time I raped and pillaged pretty much their whole country).
I've kind of shifted from sword, shield and lance over to using a 2 handed axe and my bow. Shields are essential early game i find, when projectiles can take you out from nowhere. Later on not so worried about them, being clad in metal and having plenty of troops distracting archers, so switched two handed weapons.
Don't really have to specialize in a weapon type in this game which is nice, can switch it up every now and then.

Goddamn I'm starting to regret accepting the offer of vassalage from the Swadians... The king was all like "Hey go help this dude, he's fightin' some Rhodoks." And I was like "Kay :V" So I went there with like 35 mans, a pretty haphazard mix of units, mostly Vaegir and Swadian with some Rhodok crossbowmen and like 5 named hero dudes, and I returned with like 15. We got crushed. The terrain was super hilly as the battle was near the mountains and our horses couldn't climb up the hillside to where the enemy was.

Man, the Swadian leadership is a bunch of idiots. The king's got me on a quest to capture five Rhodok trained spearmen. Fine. The only problem is that I'm level four, the only way I can win battles in on the assist, and the Swadians have buggerall in the way of troops on the Rhodok border. They're all clustered in one place throwing boot parties for individual Nord armies. You've got another front to worry about, you nellies.
Also, what's with my companions giving me lip for robbing peasants? This is war, you sopping pantsload, man up.

Got myself a heavy charger
I just run through the enemy lines, softening them up so when my infantry get there they play cleanup

wait
why would you want to cut all that money in half?
The Huscarls were generally quite rich already, at one point the king mandated all huscarls have gold inlaid in their sword hilts, making sure they could afford decent armour and such. Also the horses tended to have shiny men of death on the top of them.
Gamespot gave it a 6.0 and some of the member reviews on there gave it a 9 or 10 saying GS sucks and is stupid. But the GS review is actually pretty spot on. He says the game is really only for hardcore rpg players and that the combat is done very well, but is pretty much the only compelling part of the game, and he's right.
I mean, I'm fond of this game but I realize this game will only appeal to a small demographic and it's seriously unpolished.

40 nords (me) vs 150 vaegir
I lost 8
total bullshit
My units never die unless they are valuable, damn huscarls
Maybe the enemy AI is designed to go after the stronger guys first. why be distracted by the shirtless guy throwing stones over in the corner when there are other, much more potentially dangerous, enemy combatants to be dealt with?

But they always die
they are never injured

you mean pole arms? like a bardiche?
He means an item called the Fighting Axe which is like a one handed axe that is really long and has great reach
I never liked 'em though, not nearly cool looking enough or powerful enough to really do some damage

Huscarls simply die
