Obligatory Xbox 360 game recommendation thread

Got myself an Xbox the other day as part of a bundle, but I'm going to be trading in a few of the games (Army of Two and Lost Odyssey), so now I'm doing the whole "what game should I get" thing.

There are two games I've been wanting; Dead Rising and Mass Effect, but those are both not too expensive at the moment and the games I'm trading in are still going for top dollar, so I'll probably have a bit of dosh to spend afterwards. Plus, you know, I don't mind spending money.

So what else is good? I'm especially interested in games with multiplayer. And especially if it features some of that Halo 3, "play split-screen AND online" goodness.

For what it's worth, the games I have right now are,

Frontlines: Fuel of War
Halo 3
Assassin's Creed (because it'd only net like £3 on a trade-in, and at that price I might as well just keep it)

So what say ye?

Call of Duty 4's going Greatest Hits and will come with a token for the new maps coming out soon, so that'd be something to look into.

Earth Defense Force 2017, but it's only split screen multi.

Now this is just me, but one of my favourite games on the 360 so far has been Hitman: Blood Money. I got it for pretty cheap in GAME, like £9.99 pre-owned about a year ago, so I assume it's much cheaper now. If you see it around, I'd get it, well worth the price.

Can I throw in that it's really cheating yourself to try and play Dead Rising on a standard definition TV? I tried playing first on my family's old CRT and it was...fun.

Then I bought a 46 inch LCD 1080p television and was like "Oh, that's it."

When playing standard definition all of the text is basically unreadable, making the game kind of messed up.

Unless you have a high defenition TV, I would sugest renting dead rising before you buy it. The text in dead rising has the nasty habit of being to small to read on a lot of non high def tv's. And you jsut can't play the game without being able to read the text. The text tells you how to perform new moves, where you need to go if you want to complete any of the missions, it's very integral to the game.

I haven't played army of two, but I hear generaly bad things about it, so it makes senseto trade that in, but I've heard a lot of good stuff about Lost Odesy, you may want to keep that one, or at least look into it more.
For what it's worth, the games I have right now are,

    Frontlines: Fuel of War
    Halo 3
Assassin's Creed (because it'd only net like £3 on a trade-in, and at that price I might as well just keep it)

    Haven't played Fuel of War.
Halo3 Can be fun for online play, but the single player just wasn't fun to me, and I loved #1 and #2.
Assasin's creed is awesome, keep it for sure.

Mass effect is a lot of fun, and since your starting out with it you'll be able to really take advantage of the new dowloadable missions (you have to start a new game to use it).

I'd also sugest Overlord and BioShock. BioShock is an awesome game, I've palyed through it about 3-4 times and I just keep going back to it :).

Drop $50 worth of MS Points on the XBLA. Download all the games, play them, if you like it, buy it. Omega Five, Puzzle Quest, Castlevania: SotN, Rez, etc. I find myself playing these $10 games more than $50 ones.

There's also the obligatory Guitar Hero and Rock Band recommendations.

Crackdown should hold you over until GTA4 comes out and is an awesome sandbox game on its own. Nothing more enjoyable than leaping around the city and just blowing shit up and not having to worry about the army coming to ruin your party in this one.

Lost Planet doens't get much love, but it's a lot of fun, in a mindless shooting kind of way. Reminds me of hte old arcade style games. Has it's problems, but for the $10-20 you can get it for now, I don't think you'll overly regret it. Download the demo first to be safe though.

Earth Defense Force is another Lost Planet-like game. Low score (70-80 range if I recall) and looks like ass for a next gen game, but just mindless shooting game that's a lot of fun to play despite its flaws. Another $10-20 game you shouldn't regret purchasing.

There's also all the standards, like Halo, Bioshock, etc, but I'm sure you know about them already.

I'm in pretty much the same boat as the OP. I bought a 360 back in November, and got Forza2 and MUA for free with it and picked up the Guitar Hero games, Dead Rising, and a bunch of BC Xbox1 stuff back then, and got Gears of War recently. I'm looking for stuff that is good and doesn't cost $60. I don't have Live Gold, so no online multiplayer. Local multiplayer is fine. Any major recommendations? I'd feel weird getting Crackdown when GTA4 is almost out, and I want Mass Effect and Rock Band but don't want to pay full price for either.

If you haven't played Oblivion in any form I'd go for that. I've had the 360 since it came out and have only owned one other game. (The others were rentals) It's kind of like when I first played Mario 64 and spent time just standing and looking around. This game is beautiful and it's a joy to run around the world.

    Sounding like a broken record:

    Dead Rising
    Rock Band
COD 4 is near perfection on a large plasma with surround sound
    Burnout Revenge deserves a mention
    and my guilty pleasure is:
Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga

I think that covers most of the basic genres.

R6 Vegas was heaps of awesome i thought. I never played online , but the campaign and terrorist hunt modes were fun as tits. When a single bullet can fuck up your day, it really put the pressure on.

-But the story mode is really short and ends abruptly... I guess thats why i spent so much time in Hunt mode. It would really depend on the price if i were to recommend it. Under half price i would say for sure.
