Im diannaochong in game, using that really awesome cannon with the longest possible range, and stuff to beef up my aim/ energy for running away.
I made the mistake of buying a booster (rocket launcher) and the missle barrage skill with my starting money, I was sorely dissapointed. short range + have to stand still to use = death.

At least you didn't buy wings that broke before you could even get the laser, setting up back a whole day's worth of grinding.
I don't know if i'm going to keep playing this. The economy is based way too much on grinding for me to get any enjoyment out of it.
This is a silly statement.
Except Last Stand, the game is all deathmatch/ctf/capture and hold, etc, against other players. I really don't think that qualifies as grinding. Sure, you typically make 500-1500creds a match, but individual pieces of armor and weapons really don't cost that much. And to be honest there isn't a whole crapload of difference between the starter gear and the really expensive gear. Yes, it's better, but a skilled player in crap gear is still going to be able to beat a well equipped player who sucks and is hoping to rely on gear.
I remember like........ 6 years ago or more, there was this game called Axis made by the Korean company... JC Entertainment, I think?
It sounded like this game; robots with customization from points you earn playing flying around shooting each other. Controls were kinda like Descent, but the game wasn't that fun to play. They later made a sequel that I never heard much more about called NetSphere, that was supposed to contain more "MMO" to it than Axis did...
In any case, is there much in terms of expensive gear that is actually a wholly different weapon/equipment type than can be gotten for people who don't grind much? e.g. not just bigger guns, but stuff like mines or whatnot

I probably should have clarified why in my post. For me, in a game like this a significant portion of my enjoyment comes from the customization aspects. Tuning the mech to my playstyle, the looks vs. performance tradeoff, etc. The amount that parts cost makes it prohibitive to experiment with this from the visual angle, and the fact that the stats are so close on everything makes it pointless to bother for any other reason. The idea that I'd have to spend a day playing just to buy a part or two that are going to wear out and require more playing to keep functional is not appealing to me. Therefore, I don't expect to put much time into this, if any.
I do know that certain boosters, things that let you increase your speed, have the ability to shoot out rockets if you got the right skill.
With my starting points, I got one of these boosters and the skill, the skill was awful, AND you had to stand still in order to use it. it was pretty bad.
I got the standing still skill as well and it has only proven useful in TDM when I'm all ready firing from a distance with my rifle. I did get a double kill with it just before the end of one match that gave my team the win. :^: But, yeah, not nearly as fun or useful as some of the other skills. The Range _ Melee skills taht cause a stun and then attack with melee are awesome.
We need a medic, btw. I noticed one of the skills is for someone using a Shield and Healing R Thing. You smack them with the shield, causing a stun, and then drain their HP with your tool that is normally used to heal your team members. Sounds cool. The few times I've played a match where a medic was on teh field have really shown how useful they are.
A medic can basically win a battle single-handedly if they can manage to not die and focus on healing. The green heal pads are slow and not available on most maps, but a dedicated (2 heal gun) healer can take you from nearly dead to full in maybe 10-15 seconds.

I tried using shield + heal gun yesterday in a Last Stand and I didn't see it heal much and it overheated way too fast for it to be effective. It's probably better to just dual weild them.
Funny you should mention that. You see after my failed experiment with two shields (don't tell me you wouldn't have tried it either!) I decided to roll with two medic guns as well. I haven't had a chance to use them yet, but they are primed and waiting for me in my 2nd weapon slot.
I should probably call my mech "Gimmicka" and be done with it:-<
er... it costs 5k which set me back basically all of today to get the stupid ability that I'll just lose in thirty days.
Anyway, I think I'm probably going to sell that so I can get something worthwhile for my second mech.
Or not, I don't know. I'm just bitter.
Try to get the Dispenser booster. Got it yesterday and it was a massive improvement over the default. It lasts like two or three times as long with better stats overall.

I didn't lose it, it broke. I was about a game or two away from getting the lasers and then the fucking thing breaks, setting me back 5k and completely ruining any chance of getting the ability any time soon because fuck waiting another day when I could have a new mech now.
Are the Skills really that great they seem like more of a flashy way to kill someone than a real heavy hitter, but I haven't really used them yet
Skills are extremely good and effective especially the multi hit ones in big skirmishes. Use one at the end of say a melee combo and you get basically a 100% kill rate every time its up.
So getting creds ain't so bad because a SMG and rocket combo is the greatest thing. Because of the knockback of the rockets I usually beat melee unless he's a Sargeant in the best mech then he two shots me with a spear.
You can't sell the newbie gear, but you can sell the tutorial rewards and anything you buy. It is the "scrap" button. No selling to other players, though.
Also you should probably not sell/scrape them, even if you get pissed that you'll have to play another 5 games, at least, just to get back to where you were.

What happened to your wings?

Origin: Galedrid - Nintendo: Galedrid/3222-6858-1045
Blizzard: Galedrid#1367 - FFXIV: Galedrid Kingshand
Fucking breaks.
It's only 5k for 100,000 repair points.

I haven't had to repair anything yet, and I'm using all gear that has durability.

It does lose durability really fast though.
Namely in the department of lasers.

I never asked for this!
You're invincible, as I undestand it, while using them, take that for what you will.
Ditto
Is this whole getting randomly disconnected thing normal? and do I get any exp/money when it happens mid match?
The whole account managment system was down this afternoon
