I think I just came in my pants. Besides all the other great changes, I'm interested to see what "increased diversity in BWT song selection" means. Since I'm currently working on all the city instruments, that's potentially the biggest improvement for me.
The downloading system for RB DLC has always seemed a bit less than user friendly. Not searchable, can't preview, etc. This looks to be a fantastic addition.
Also, RB has hit six million song downloads. Six million!
Holy shit, yes. This needs to be inline'd, but there's even more info that's not in the Joystiq writeup. Pics from Joystiq and Destructoid, text from RB forums:[/url]
In this latest software update, you’ll find:
* (New!) Music Store: Rock Band now has a new feature that lets you preview and purchase songs from within the game! Accessible from the main menu, the Music Store lets you view, purchase and sort all available music based on various categories, view album art, listen to song previews, and check out extended information about the song like difficulty for each instrument.
* Revised Fan Caps: To allow Easy, Medium, and Hard players to progress further in the Band World Tour, we’ve increased the number of fans that you can earn before hitting the cap. Easy players can now travel across the Atlantic, Medium players have a wider range of venues they can play at, and Hard players on the Xbox 360 are now able to unlock the “One Million Fans†achievement.
* More diverse songs in Band World Tour: If you’ve ever cursed about having to play “Say it Ain’t So†or a Metallica track multiple times in the same hour, then you’ll be glad to know that we’ve tracked down and fixed the issues that triggered these very repetitive moments in Band World Tour.
* Improved phoneme recognition: We’ve improved the detection and scoring for phoneme recognition. If you had trouble on songs like “Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld†or “Blitzkrieg Bopâ€, you should have an easier time beating these songs now.
* Microphone Latency on PlayStation 3 improved: Our awesome team of audio programmers has found some optimizations that reduce microphone latency on the PlayStation 3 in certain situations.
* Xbox 360 Band Logos are now visible through Xbox LIVE: An issue with parental controls stopped band logos from being visible over Xbox LIVE. With this update, you can now view all of the awesome band logos that people around the world have created!
* Faster loading of downloadable content: Not only is the loading speed faster, but this information is now cached so that this loading time is a “once only†wait rather than something that happens every time you turn on the game.

I wonder how this works in regards to the 360's drm cockery.
Now we just have to wait for the DLC announcement. I know it's not going to happen, but if the first set of DLC was a full album, like Nevermind ... I would lose my shit right here in my cubicle.

Honestly, just the store itself could constitute this week's DLC and I would be happy.
I love the slick look and pretty pictures and album art.

For serious.
I'm actually not going to be at the office tomorrow, so here's hoping!
As an aside, I'm loving the fact that my local hard-rock radio station is jam-packed with Rock Band nerds. Has this happened to anyone else? For anyone in the NYC area, K-Rock (92.3) plays a ton of Rock Band tunes, and almost like clockwork a week or two after a new DLC song comes out I'll hear it on the radio. I wasn't 100 percent sure of the coincidence, because hey, Rock Band songs are also just good rock songs period, but it was cemented in my head sometime last month, when I heard Limelight and Roxanne in rotation on the same day.

In SoCal, I pretty much switch up between radio stations at work and on the road. Our KROQ (pretty much the same company as your K-Rock) plays all the alternative and newer stuff and then I switch to 95.5 KLOS and I get to hear Police, Rush, Deep Purple, Aerosmith, and other classics. I feel like such a music nerd. Even more so after wasting hours reading wikis about all the bands and their albums.

I hate to break it to you, but Limelight and Roxeanne are in rotation on basically every single rock station in the country. :P
Try coming to Florida and saying that, buddy.
I think our classic rock station has played Limelight all of two times in the past ten years (any time they play Rush, it's Tom Sawyer or Closer to the Heart), and The Police are played only on those godawful "mix" stations.
If you start hearing the lesser-known songs from the superbands who get a lot of playtime on the corporate radio stations, then you've got a good case for the influence of Rock Band. I don't think I've ever heard "Calling Dr. Love" on a corporate radio station, for example, even though they play a healthy amount of KISS on all the rock stations.

After GH2, I heard "Girlfriend" by Matthew Sweet (which I'd never heard on the radio before) and "Stop!" started getting regular play (had never heard this on the radio either).
Matthew Sweet got a lot of play on college stations in the late 90s, I think. And "Been Caught Stealing" and "Stop!" have both been played to death on corporate rock radio since they were first pressed.
I've never heard Matthew Sweet on a corporate station, though. That's pretty cool.
I'm not really arguing with you guys, by the way. I just think you might be listening selectively because you've (like me) fallen in love with these songs.

Ewww... K-Rock. The station that hasn't updated its songlist since the early 2000s.
That aside, though, I remember reading an interview with the musicians who performed the covers in the original Guitar Hero. One of them told a story of being in the guitar shop shortly after the launch, and a 16-17 year old came in to buy a guitar. He sat down and proceeded to play about 5-6 songs from Guitar Hero and nothing else. The dude even sat down with him and gave him some pointers.

Probably in a lot of spots, but not on this particular station. I'd never heard Limelight once before hearing it in RB, honestly. It never fails to update with Rock Band tracks, and even my wife has started noticing. ("Isn't this that song you keep playing?")
Ewww... K-Rock. The station that hasn't updated its songlist since the early 2000s.
:P It's mostly dated but much better in its current iteration. Don't know if you listened in a while, but it fired all the DJs and went to an all-talk format for a brief period of time before the listenership plummeted and it swapped back to regular rock. I think a lot of the playlists are user-submitted, which may explain some of the repetition. College was also the last time that I listened to radio regularly, so it's something of musical comfort food for me.
So, my plastic pedal on the drum set snapped in half. So because I'm such an expert engineer (and redneck according to my friends) a piece of cardboard and duct tape fixed that problem... for now. Well it's annoying to try to use it now with that duct tape... feels off and the cardboard is pretty flimsy so it just doesn't feel quite right.

Yeah, I remember the format change. Honestly, I still listen to it because it's one of the only modern rock stations in NY (if not the only one), but when it plays My Chemical Romance and Dashboard Confessional alongside Black Sabbath and Nirvana and labels Guns 'n Roses as "oldies", I quirk my eyebrow. :P

Major classic rock stations are adding Nirvana and Guns 'n Roses to their playlists. So you shouldn't be surprised.

I'm not old, dammit!
You guys know that Just Shoot Me is now playing on TV Land/Nick at Nite, right? I'm just sayin'.
Actually, the same delay exists in drum practice mode when you turn down the speed. The sounds play a few ms AFTER you hit the pad. Some people find it incredibly annoying (like me), and some don't even notice it.

They pretty much fixed my only complaints with DLC, all in one fell swoop. I had always wished you could preview tracks, having to rely on YouTube, and that doesn't even help with covers unless it's been out a little bit. And I was thinking it needed some sort of categorization as the list grew. Great fucking job, Harmonix. :^:
Harmonix is constantly busy, thats what I've learned. Honestly, to crank out 3 songs a week - AND make this update - although it may be 2 seperate teams, is just astonishing.
Long ago when they announced "Weekly DLC" I think it was stated "...through this year." Which to me, meant, a couple songs a week until Jan 1st, where it would become more sporatic.
Than, I figured we'd get an announcement about "No more DLC for a month, as we work on making a store."
Never did I think these things were going on concurrently.

It drives me nuts, I don't even bother doing fills anymore, I just roll the snare for a while then hit the crash :-|

Lunker, I am going to steal your post for the OP.

My RockBand/SingStar song list, videogame karaoke is Awesome!

I finally convinced my band to cover "Truth Hits Everybody"!
wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo awesome
It's a fairly easy song to play, actually. Pretty simple, but so fun.
You will record this in HD and post it on the internet.

Agreed.
What manner of epic weasel fight led to such a thing?

So any suggestions on what to do?
or make your own pedal which you can search for in google.

FOR REALZ!
this thread is lively today, all this and two snaps up in a circle.
Oh. My. God.
Best game update ever. I am so excited to check it out.
I love you Harmonix, I truly do.
I'm not old, dammit!

i cant tell you how many times i've told my buddy that they need a way to preview the songs!
here's to hoping the album section is no longer "coming soon" fairly quickly.
Edit: The band logo's thing is pretty cool too. now if only there was an easy way to show off the custom characters!
Yes.
