Harmonix is constantly busy, thats what I've learned. Honestly, to crank out 3 songs a week - AND make this update - although it may be 2 seperate teams, is just astonishing.

Long ago when they announced "Weekly DLC" I think it was stated "...through this year." Which to me, meant, a couple songs a week until Jan 1st, where it would become more sporatic.

Than, I figured we'd get an announcement about "No more DLC for a month, as we work on making a store."

Never did I think these things were going on concurrently.

This is why Harmonix is one of the greatest companies for gaming ever. They truly do what they can to please their fans.

You mean... an improved interface for finding and downloading songs to Rock Band?!

What manner of epic weasel fight led to such a thing?

It was incredible. These were truly epic, like five dozen level 60 weasels, fully outfitted, running the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj. Many did not survive.

Fuck yes! That announcement has me very excited, but there is one problem for me. Comcast hates me and I've been without internet since Monday night and will likely be without it until Saturday at the earliest (long story, but I have to wait on a tech to show up as I've tried everything else possible to fix it). If the patch goes live before then I'll have to make arrangements to get my 360 somewhere I can borrow an internet connection for it. Even then I'd be a little sad to play knowing my scores wouldn't get posted to the leader boards.

Man, what a contrast between announcements.

In Rock Band, we're getting a totally new, totally bitchin' store interface that's about as user friendly as...well, something really user friendly. We get album art, difficulty ratings, and a positive outlook on the state of full album downloads. The best news ever and a half.

Versus Guitar Hero, which is getting this...thing:

Indeed. Rock Band continues down it's path of authenticity and awesomeness. Guitar Hero, while I will admit that thing is at least creative, continues it's path of cartoonish and borderline goofy. I suppose if I had a DS and found myself really hurting for a portable rhythm game outlet, that thing would make sense. I do admit I'm curious if it'll have just retreads for the songlist or some different stuff.

Seriously? What about having a sneak peak of the note chart? That would be even better, though I'd still probably turn to Youtube for a complete run-through if I wasn't sure about a song.

As for that Guitar Hero DS thing, I picked up my DS and tried holding it like you would with that peripheral (granted, there's going to be a strap, but still...). I could not imagine anything more goofy or uncomfortable, and I play on fucking plastic guitars.

Patch is live for PS3 owners as well. At last look, we haven't got the Thrash Pack yet though. Hopefully they were just waiting for the patch to roll out before adding it to the store.

edit: Well, the songs for the Thrash Pack show up in the Rock Band Store, but when you try to buy them, you get a message saying that you can't buy it from there, but you should check in the PSN store instead. Only the pack isn't in the PSN Store. It also says that I've already purchased the Thrash Pack... even though it isn't available. Same thing with the Grateful Dead pack - including not being able to buy it straight from the RB store - although that one -is- available in the PSN store. Very strange.

It would figure that this patch with all of the awesomeness it contains would come the week that my 360 finally RRODs.

What is this DLC announcement people are talking about? We got the thrash pack this week (personally not interested, but I approve of diversity in the tracks)

Was there some statement that there would be additional DLC this week? Also, somebody said the PS3 patch was live? Is that true? Anyone know if this will be an autopatch when you start the game next or is it a download from the marketplace?

Store looks GREAT, the other fixes are all very nice as well. I was personally hoping for the fixes to voicechat on both the 360 and the ps3. The ps3 is really screwed up, but losing all voice with any silver or guest account on the 360 is also highly annoying. Well, hopefully that will be in a future patch.

Well done Harmonix! The store was the #1 thing you needed, and it will help you sell billions of songs so you can help us loyal people out with our voicechat issues, right? :)

Question: I'm interested in the game, but would like to get a second guitar. Are they now selling guitars by themselves (compatible with Rock Band)? Are there wireless versions for the PS3?

Speaking of wireless, I am under the impression that the guitar is wireless, and the mic and drums hook up to the PS3 through USB. Is that correct?

How many batteries do you need for the guitar? And does it come with any out of the box?

    Thanks! :)

PS3 patch is live, yes. I grabbed it about an hour and a half ago. It's also very small. It's so small, that I can't even tell you the filesize because I clicked to download the patch, walked 10 feet to my fridge, poured a drink and by the time I got back to the TV, it was done.

Yes, they are selling lone guitars now. The PS3 ones are wireless, 360 is wired. Mic and Drums hook up to the PS3 using your USB ports. On 360, everything is hooked up to the USB hub which is provided with the game. The guitar takes 2 AA batteries, and it comes with 2 in the box.

I guess I should also say that the wireless guitar for PS3 still uses a USB port for the wireless dongle.

In both Rock Band and Guitar Hero, you "play" scaled-down plastic versions of instruments that look like they were made by Mattel. I mean, it's fun as hell, but let's be realistic here: both games, by their nature, are extremely goofy.

Except Guitar Hero the game mimic the controller, while Rock Band has a much more sleek and professional look.

While both have controllers which are one step away from Fisher Price at least Rock Band's can look like peripherals rather than toys.

His statements are a little misleading. EBGames.com says you can order the guitars, but they don't come out until Apr. 4th. Also, the wireless guitars take 3 batteries, not 2. At least, the one that came with the bundle does.

Well, I was referring to the art style of the actual game, not the periphs, but even then I would have to grant Rock Band is only a little goofy and Guitar Hero a bit goofy. I have come to terms with my plastic instrument acceptance issues. In my mind, they make rock and roll, albiet in a different manner than the real things.

I'm wondering if the delayed announcement a couple weeks ago has anything to do with this. Its possible that they were planning an album release but wanted the Store ready before and something came up with it so they delayed it a couple weeks... But that might just be me being overly optimistic and I'll be disappointed come tomorrows announcement... But I can hope damnit!

Still, the patch is really fucking awesome regardless of what gets announced tomorrow.

I don't want to get hopes up too high, but with the store coming out, next week's DLC could very well be a full album like Nevermind. What better way to kick off the new store by releasing what would have been too complicated for Xbox Live to handle?

PS3 update is live if you missed that tidbit in the past few pages.

360 update isn't up yet but HMXSean said he will update us in this thread when it is live.

EDIT: Looks like top Vocal people on the PS3 have tested some of the annoying talky songs out and aside from a couple of tracks, most of the major flaws (Next To You, When You Were Young, etc) still have near impossible phoneme detection. This is discouraging.
