TBK won't be playing that playlist so all the bitching can stop. Also, when BR starts stay in normal MM . . . people willl realize Bungie hasn't been sucking MLGs cock.
What do you mean "when"? Half the games I play in MM end up being BR starts.
All Big Team Battles are Battle Riffle starts. For what reason is beyond me, as the maps used in BTB are gigantic and you don't need a weapon cutting the field down with 16 people running around on it.
I don't care if it makes it "uncertain" when the other team has BRs. Why the fuck did you let an entire team collect all 8 BRs on Valhalla? Seeing as how 3 of them are in your base and two of them are near center, maybe you fucking suck.
I don't care if there's skill, because there isn't. You don't need to even shoot their head until the 4th shot. Until then body shots are fine.
BRs take away most if not all melee and reduces grenade play. What you end up with is some retarded strafe dancing around each other, trying to land the last shot that the host will give you.
BRs sound boring and play boring, they don't fare well against ANY vehicles except for the turret in a wraith, and these huge BTB maps are now so fucking small that objectives are rediculously hard to play since xxCOCKMONSTERxx's guest can shoot you while holding the bomb because they spawned halfway across the map from you. Teams aren't penalized as much for all coming out to the center on most maps since they can just FUCKING SHOOT YOU from the center all the way over on bubble shield.
The faster people realize Halo is not a skill based game and just realize it's a fun game and chat tool, maybe we'll get somewhere. But as long as people keep try to turn it into fucking Counterstrike or Quake or whatever game is so far up on it's high horse with a dildo up it's ass stroking off it's dick while singing "Train Kept a Rollin" it's just going to continue to lose more and more people to CoD4, which while not as fun to play in at least can't have a weapon discussion SINCE YOU FUCKING LEVEL UP WITH THEM. People didn't have fun in Goldeneye and Perfect Dark because of it's weapon starts or skill based play (How many times did people even make it have you start with weapons?), they played it because it was a good time, had great gameplay, and everyone wasn't busy worrying about some record that nobody is going to give a shit about in 6 years because If You Die In The Game You Die In Real Life.

I don't usually do BTB though, Team Objective on Valhalla's always BR start, on other maps it's a 50/50 chance, same with Lone Wolves and Team Slayer.:|

No skill? Wow man I didn't know the BR was the only gun in the game that aims itself.
Ever since the melee update, you shouldn't be trying to melee anyway. The levels are also so huge that if you you are trying to melee someone, something is wrong and you are about to die anyway because you ran all the way into the midst of the enemy.
They don't fare well against any vehicle? well mysteriously enough, Bungie saw fit to grace you with an assault rifle secondary for those specific situations where you need to take down a vehicle. Also, last I checked, most weapons didn't fare very well against vehicles, because being in a vehicle is supposed to confer an advantage to you.
You got shot carrying the bomb? Where was your Mongoose, regen and backup? From that far away, the BR takes more than four shots to kill... you couldn't get in cover? You were running through an open field? You deserve to die.
Lsat I checked the fun in this game came from the spirit of competition. So, ideally, I like the matches to be even, and since everyone who can compete with me grabs a BR anyway, everyone might as well start with BRs.
Goldeneye and Perfect Dark were fun regardless of weapon starts, to be sure, but then again... every game was a custom game. If you want to use Halo as a "CHAT TOOL" (which is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard) then play Custom Games with whatever weapons you want, just like the good old days. Your argument doesn't hold any water and just comes across as a big bitch session to me.

This clan vis a vie this thread is unequivocally not for you, based on the braggart mentality. Go post on MLG or Bungie where they'll welcome you with open arms.
Ever since the melee update, you shouldn't be trying to melee anyway.
The BASIS of Halo (1, 2 or 3) has been an even balance between guns, nades, and melee. This is why we have access to all 3 on their own buttons. The big maps tend to favor more gunplay, but there are still plenty of areas where the other two fit in (Valhalla- caves, middle hill, middle hill path, both bases). BR starts reduce the effectiveness of both nades and melee (like you said) even more. This is my problem with BR starts.
1. BRs are awesome. Lrn2hedsht lol
2. If you hate Bungie's playlists don't play matchmaking any more. Matchmaking has always been for suckers. Since ever. Just play Custom Games and enjoy it.

i don't like br starts, but it does emphasize shooting again rather than melee combat. also, it was that way in halo 2 for a long time, i'm damn used to it by now
So this free map pack. Could I download it even if I don't have H3 in anticipation of picking it up "one of these days"?
Umm yeah but...
why?
It would just take up hard drive space and wouldn't be used until you got halo.
I'd wait until you've made the decision to buy it and have your 360 dl it while you go pick it up

I didn't know that an attack with an effective range of about 2 feet should be equally as deadly as big guns and explosive grenades. Melee has always been an incredibly unreliable way to try and kill someone - ever since the days of Halo 2 host advantage and the new Halo 3 melee system. Its more often than not just a death.. if you want to get a 1.0 kills deaths going for lots of melee is a good idea.

Wow nice argument man, you're right, time to go chill on the MLG forum because it offers just the same quality of experience as the PA forum.
Except none of us really care about our ratio that much. Maybe we aren't all so self asorbed that we don't mind decking a guy so the flag or bomb can keep moving.
Melee was only useless in Halo 1, and that was due to how they animated/executed it. It's always been useful in H2 and works great in H3 now even with simul-death. You see, Chief can flip a fucking tank. Of course his punches are going to hurt. If you don't like melee go play Counterstrike. I hear you run faster when holding a knife.
I mean come on, they assigned a button on the controller -just for meleeing-, along with grenade throwing. In GE and PD, you had to manually switch to melee mode, because the focus in those games was guns (and mines, lulz)
I mean, I don't know about you, but I constantly take down swords and hammers by punching them in the face. Even my bnet stats for weapons used to kill:
Except none of us really care about our ratio that much. Maybe we aren't all so self asorbed that we don't mind decking a guy so the flag or bomb can keep moving.
I think one could reasonably argue there is something a bit off with the balance when almost all one-on-one fights come down to running at each other shooting at the head, and then whoever gets the melee in first wins. Perhaps it's just the very low ranking I play at that we aren't able to kill each other some other way, but that's how it is for me. Seeing as I'm in New Zealand and all the hosts are in the US, guess who wins each time?

This is an extraordinarily bad metric for judging gameplay importance.

Kill ratio? as if that really mattered that much. Being an efficient killer is about teamwork and strategy. Part of the reason I personally don't see FFA as skill because luck and kill stealing factor too heavily into that equation.
The main reason I hate MLG players is that they ruin the game, Also their attitude and lack of respect of the rules. The asshattery that comes with all of that, I don't personally need. Professional gaming is a joke in its current form.
If you are playing halo to be a MLG wannabe, then go play with those people and enjoy your misery and drugery. We will be playing causally and still be having fun.

Lewisham, I know you get screwed by the hosting issue. It still pisses me off too since I see USA hosts essentially abuse their hosting abilities. Microsoft and their retarded latency setup is more to blame here. Punching is part of the game, unreliable? maybe. Fun? yes. If you aren't having a good time, you are playing the wrong game.

Also I remember several interviews over the course of Halo 3's development when they talked about the games trinity of melee, grenades, and guns as what they believed is the most defining aspect of Halo
Speaking of which, it's so hard to use grenades in Halo 1
- holy shit chief throws them so fucking far it's hard to pinpoint them anymore
- I like how both the frag and sticky make the same sound when you throw them. So many times I've stopped and went "wait wasn't I on stickies? why did I just throw a frag oh same sound"
- who ever thought it was a good idea for plasma grenades to take 5 seconds to explode? Holy crap they're slow. I seriously never remembered them being that slow. Like, slower than pre-patch Halo 2 slow.

I kinda wish they took that long to explode again... at least when you stick someone... in campaign. One of my favorite things in h1 was sticking an enemy and watching them squirm. "Get it off! Get it off!" "Noooohohoho"

The suicide bomber grunt was my favorite thing in any video game released last year. I laughed so fucking hard the first time I saw that.
And I think people might get put off by how we use the term casual. I mean we've always been tactical and working together and playing to win, but we just don't fucking obsess over it and make it out like Bungie owes us, and work to ruin the game based on some ideal of "skill" that only applies to when we can win. Look at the Halo 2 playbook we had- we had that shit on lockdown. I think we all love competition and strategery as much as the next guy, but not in the sense that we have to be elitist fucks about it.

I play Halo to win because winning is fun and not dying is an important part of that... you can't defend or capture flags if you are dead, can't defend the bomb carrier, etc. There is no way, really, you can justify dying as much as you kill especially if you could easily kill more people than kill you.
Being an efficient killer is about teamwork sure, but to me, efficiency means you have multiple guys using their BRs to take down people from a distance rather than just covering the asshat who insists on using his AR instead

Wow congrats, unfortunately, I'm not a dumbass. Just because I started with a BR doesn't mean I use it all the time... its a pretty simple matter to take down the sword with an AR now that the lunge is so short. And the GHam is worthless in almost every situation. Nice job BTW, even though melee & AR are your weapons of choice, I still beat down more people per match than you do.. O_o
