Anyway, the video documents how the battle rifle will not hit a target across foundry zoomed out, but will zoomed in and vice versa at the halfway point. I assume this is because the spray is calculated as deviation from the size of the reticle or something to make scoped shots more accurate.
But then I opened up the forum discussion and was shocked to discover that the MLGrs complained that the BR is a broken weapon and that bungie were stupid for not making it perfectly accurate when in scope as compared to without scope, which in my opinion would pretty much negate any effect that using the scope has other than zooming in slightly.
This in turn made me think the MLGrs main problem is that they are playing a fundamentally different game from the rest of us. MLG Halo is completely different from regular person Halo, and that any arguments about weapon spawns/usages/accuracies etc. are flawed in that the games they are being used in differ so much. This is why I think that MLG complaining that the maker of regular Halo made a gun that doesn't suit their style and has thus shipped a 'broken' game is retarded and that they are the ones with the broken game because they simply hijacked a completely different game and tried t\o turn into something it isn't, namely MLG.
And that is my huge rant about MLG forumers being lame. Sorry about being so late to the conversation.
Pro gaming has and will always be another world. I prefer to just let them do their thing off in their corner of the internet and not get involved. I dont need them in my life any more than they want me all up in their face either.
It's when they break out and infect the real world that pisses me off, acting as though they matter or have any relevance.
I like how they are blaming Bungie for creating a 'flawed' weapon that shoots 'randomly'.
WTF. DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW A GUN WORKS. They don't shoot the same way each time.
They are complaining that Bungie essentially made the game more realistic. Fuck these guys.
I love one post on page one: "Wow, this makes me want to not even pick up Halo for fun anymore...
Seriously Bungie, wtf?".
Sweet baby Jesus.
Professional gamers don't like inconsistency in their games. They don't like having something not be in their control. I will never understand why the "gamers" in G&T hate professional gaming. MLG.com forums are filled with idiots, but so is this place. You shouldn't hate on entire industry or way of life because of a few people.
I think its a case of games being designed since the dawn of time to be fun and entertaining and pro gamers taking that form of entertainment and making it not fun and hyper competitive.

What? That actually makes sense. A lot more sense than Halo 2's BR cluster being the same no matter the distance or if you were scoped or not post-patch (it had a bigger cluster the farther away pre-patch)
It's like people that try to justify superbouncing as intended or wavedashing as intended and then they complain when it's fixed in the sequel.
I enjoy both aspects of gaming immensely, why can't you do the same?
Because we don't have to force ourselves to like a weapon just because we should?
Okay, seriously, you and Sakeido are arguing about something COMPLETELY different to what we're talking about.
I'm advocating the game stays the way it is and you just deal with it. They aren't going to change it. Quit crying about it. If you want to play matchmaking, learn how to shoot a BR. I also dislike how MLG fucks with the game so much and would prefer they play it exactly how it shipped as well. So, as usual, I'm in this no man's land between two big groups of idiots.
The reason we don't like BR start is because we die to it a lot, or can't pick it up, or whatever. In fact, we had no problems pushing teams of 50% generals back off the center of Valhalla with just ARs while they grabbed all their BRs. We can use the BR just fine.
Our problem is the fact that:
1) It's not a very fun or interesting weapon to shoot. It has the most boring sound ever. It's honestly on par with the H2 SMG there.
2) Starting with it changes the maps. There is a term Valve uses, and it's called gating - where singleplayer or multiplayer maps are designed with "gates" that players or NPCs block and you must get through them. Now in Halo 3 with AR start, Valhalla has 3-5 of these gates (pelican, middle hill, bubble shield, the bases). You can either
- stack the entire team up on middle and keep an eye out on incoming vehicle runners. This is very risky as they can blow right by you, and it's easy for their team to direct them around you on their way back
- spread the team evenly at each gate, and risk them punching through and making you spawn outside.
- stack up your team at base and turtle. If the other team is stupid enough, they'll come towards your base and you can send strike teams through their undefended gates.
- other examples but you get the idea
Now you have a BR start. Now, I'll be honest - it'd be okay to have a BR variant with the map tweaked to match it. But assume we're in MM Valhalla.
Now the level has 3 gates (2 bases, and center). A team can stack up on center and kill anything that tries to go through bubble shield and pelican. You are no longer punished for gambling and putting all your eggs in one basket. You can't outsmart another team, you just have to outslay them. I can't tell you how much now in BTB with BR start that the opponent base is EMPTY because they know they can just shoot you down if you try to drive or cannon back. I can't tell you how many times that since the other team can light up a target approaching the base, how many freaking stalemates there have been. I mean hell, even Bungie tries to reduce stalemates on Neutral Bomb and kept that AR start.
This is why a lot of don't like the BR start. An unfun gun waters down the gameplay to whoever is fucking host, which all the work they put into the AR went very far into eliminating the host factor. I remember people when I first got on Halo 3, it was really hard to detect who had host because of the AR's range and general gameplay. Now, with everyone and their mother with BRs, host has a hellacious advantage, and it's even more apparent in slayer where you're guaranteed to spawn on one side of the map. You must also consider that previously the BR was balanced out because since only 4 existed for each team, you couldn't use them for long without having to swap out or kill another BR'r for ammo. Now, since everyone has a BR, it's impossible to run out.

Actually if people bitch enough they'll change it, they have, they just take a while because they make it look like they didn't make a mistake. They did it to a lot of gametypes in H2, they can do it in H3, especially since they're hiring somebody that isn't Shishka to do the playlists.
You see when you turn a sport into a hobby and then dictate that the way you play is the only just and intentional way, you'll have some problems.
Say you like to read. Then say that someone comes along and says that the best way to read is in a dark room blindfolded while playing the bongos with with your feet. Then that person tries to force that way to read on you and call you a pussy, robbing all of the joy you get from reading casually.
It's a horrible metaphor, but it gets the point across.
You're doing the same exact thing. You do realize that, right? You're telling me that my preferred way to play is dumb and that I'm an idiot for liking it.

Bungie changes something in matchmaking because they think it will be better. No amount of bitching by any part of their community is going to change what they do.
Like I said if you spend 5 minutes in any MLG chat room, forum, game, ANYTHING . . . anybody worth their shit is playing and will only be playing custom games. It is how that community works. The MLG matchmaking play list will give those people a play list of their own to play if they can't get a custom together but at the end of the day . . . MLGkids do not give a fuck about matchmaking. No, Shishka changes something because he thinks it'll be better. They apparently finally removed or weighted really low Territories on Last Resort because of how rediculously easy it was to spawncamp. I mean fuck, an update went out that had the rounds and the points flipped for that (i think it was 5 rounds at least, favoring blue), which should have been caught if Bungie actually tested playlist updates.
And let's be honest, Regicide. All those MLG kids sure have boosted to 50 for not liking matchmaking.

It's a circular argument, but we're trying to play the game as it was shipped, and MLG wants it the way they think it should be.

You do understand that at the end of the day, the decisions for Matchmaking go to one man, and he currently believes that players should start with BRs. It also should be understood that this man isn't really that good at his job to start with, with examples of simple errors and mistakes in matchmaking games that should've been seen in simple playtests.
Like I said if you spend 5 minutes in any MLG chat room, forum, game, ANYTHING . . . anybody worth their shit is playing and will only be playing custom games. It is how that community works. Then who are they put in for? only MLG is fighting so strongly for their BR. MLG is not entirely in custom games, they go in matchmaking and make it a bitch for us.
But anyway, anyone want a partner for the 2v2 tournament?

Actually I know everything about them because I read their forums, rules, and reasonings, and make fun of them on the matchmaking forum along with other posters at bungie.net
And god damn "bad kids" is the stupidest and most juvenile fucking phrase ever and I don't know why it started catching on as an insult. I've had 30 year old men call me a "bad kid" for having my team cream their ass in BR slayer.

This isn't really true, and you know it. Bungie can be incredibly stupid when it comes to their options, but they're still looking out for the community.
Do you understand that while you are arguing about the amount of customization, you are backing MLG, who are very staunch in the way people play the game: with their rules, their weapons, and no altering of these rules.
But to get to the POINT OF THE TOPIC, I want to shoot some guys tonight.
That and I wanna know if anyone wants to be my partner for the 2v2 tourny.
Competitions need to be consistent, especially when there is thousands of dollars of prize money on the line . . . do you expect them to allow people to change it?
You want to play the game exactly how it was shipped, ignoring the games robust customization options, while MLG took advantage of it and found what worked best for their competitions. If you don't like MLG game types, then don't play them . . . if you don't like Bungie having BR start in matchmaking, DON'T PLAY THEM! Use those amazing features Bungie implemented and make your own games and play custom.
It isn't that hard. For people who say they hate BR starts, you all do play a lot of matchmaking . . .

I'm not ignoring the customization, I'm actually using it to the fullest. MLG on the other hand took these options and warped the game into their own twisted birthday party where everything has to be their way. They're limiting their own enjoyment of the game by turning it into a competition. Games were meant to be a hobby, and not a competition anyway, which was what I was trying to say with my reading metaphor earlier.
Also, why the fuck do I have to restrict myself to custom games just because some people want BR starts? What if there aren't enough people on to play a custom game? Do I have to only play campaign or forge by myself?
When you start catering to one type of people, then you limit the enjoyment of others. You should understand this.
I am not going to discuss this any further, as I assume you will just respond justifying your way of "playing" somehow and will never stop because you will not persuade me to instantly love MLG's cock and you will not falter in your opinion because of me.

It's when they break out and infect the real world that pisses me off, acting as though they matter or have any relevance.

Everybody, shut up! (thefuck)
they go against all we stand for.
Then I guess you're right.
I enjoy both aspects of gaming immensely, why can't you do the same?
Because we don't have to force ourselves to like a weapon just because we should?
Okay, seriously, you and Sakeido are arguing about something COMPLETELY different to what we're talking about.

Oh, boy!
Now, since everyone has a BR, it's impossible to run out.
edit: Fyre said it better.
THAT'S THE FUCKING POINT!
So if you say altering the game types or weapon placements is stupid then that means you're dumb (but I love you anyways). Bungie WANTS you to.
EDIT: Whoa, two posts appeared! Let me read those real quick.
Actually if people bitch enough they'll change it, they have, they just take a while because they make it look like they didn't make a mistake. They did it to a lot of gametypes in H2, they can do it in H3, especially since they're hiring somebody that isn't Shishka to do the playlists.
You're doing the same exact thing. You do realize that, right? You're telling me that my preferred way to play is dumb and that I'm an idiot for liking it.
Your conscious isn't clean!
If the AR is so perfect, why is Bungie changing it? They're not changing it for anybody but themselves. We have forge and custom game types, we can do whatever the hell we want. Bungie changes something in matchmaking because they think it will be better. No amount of bitching by any part of their community is going to change what they do.
Then who are they put in for? only MLG is fighting so strongly for their BR. MLG is not entirely in custom games, they go in matchmaking and make it a bitch for us.
But anyway, anyone want a partner for the 2v2 tournament?
If Bungie wanted everybody to play games as it was shipped, why the fuck do we have such amazing system to customize not only the game types, but the fucking maps. Honestly.
You don't know anything about MLG or their community. You only know about the bad kids. So stop talking as if you know what you're talking about when it comes to MLG.
Then bungie isn't really looking out for the people who play it and only look out for them.
