LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Beau Bridges has joined the cast of the dramatic thriller "Max Payne," based on the hit Rockstar video game.

Mark Wahlberg plays the title character, a maverick cop determined to track down those responsible for the murder of his partner and family.

Bridges plays B.B. Hensley, a former cop and mentor figure to Payne, who helps him track down a cunning, ruthless killer.

The cast also includes Mila Kunis, as an assassin who teams up with Payne to avenge her sister's death.

John Moore -- whose credits include "Behind Enemy Lines" and the 2006 "Omen" remake -- is directing the 20th Century Fox film. Beau Thorne penned the script.

Bridges was nominated last year for an Emmy for guest actor in a comedy for his role as Carl Hickey, father of Jason Lee's Earl Hickey in NBC's "My Name Is Earl." He recently wrapped another episode of the sitcom and is set to film an additional episode this month.

Bridges also has had a regular role on the sci-fi series "Stargate: SG-1."

Unless they stick to the noir feel, I can't imagine it'll be very good.

I think the fact that Marky Mark is playing Max Payne and Mila Kunis is playing an assassin tells you all you need to know.

    I like Mark Wahlberg

And if they stick to the so-noir-it's-ridiculous theme, I will like this movie

That's about all there is to it

I didn't know she was cast! It sounded bad enough when they cast Mark Wahlberg as Payne.

Wahlberg's a fine actor, but he doesn't seem very Max Payne-like to me.

    I disagree

His face is good, his voice could work, and he was in a movie called "Shooter"

    Shooter for god's sake

I think I ran into the set for this when I wa in Toronto over the weekend. I know they've been filming up there, but I didn't get a chance to do much besides see some fake smoke and a lot of lighting equipment and then turn down the next street.

I should have stopped and let them know Mila Kunis sucks as Mona Sax.

but I guess I didn't see her in American Psycho 2 (for obvious reasons), so maybe she can actually pull off the bad ass killer angle.

Mark Whalberg was awesome in The Departed.

That is the only reason I am hopeful.

Mila Kunis was the obnoxious snobby girl on That 70s Show. I like her, and she seems like she has a career ahead of her in comedy. But she is no Mona Sax.

Right, but doing a self-conscious, over the top but still emotionally appealing noir is not the path of least resistance, so...I have a feeling this won't work.

They were filming in Toronto today, I heard there was a chunk of the downtown business district (King St.) closed to traffic.
