The more I play BC, the more I have two minds about the whole "you can only talk to your squad" thing.

Obviously, its detrimental in that you cannot tell the asshole next to you to stop picking his nose and heal you, attack this, etc etc. This is a big con, as it takes away a lot of the team based strategy that comes into play in these games, especially ones with real estate as large as the Battlefield games.

On the other hand, you have to ask yourself: "Do I really want to talk to other people on XBL?" The answer is "Fuck no" for those of you who have never been on XBL.

Hell, I'm amazed some of these idiots on XBL can actually talk and play at the same time with their limited intelligence. Although it would explain all the mouth breathers....

I've taken to just using private voice chat during the game. I've only been playing with one guy, and that way we can ignore our mouthbreathing team mates, which is nice.

Edit: Oh and if anyone needs a person to join up, wing me an invite tonight. I've got nothing to do for the next few hours.

Woot! I just reached 25, and the form icon is replaced with a number, some of you may or may not know about. It goes between 1 and 50, and the lower it is, the better. Right now mine says 5. It was lower, but the form thing seems so damn finicky. I was doing about three maps of scores like 11-2, and then I do one round of 6/9 and I've got a red arrow. What is up with that crap?

As far as full team chat, I don't know if I could stand a whole team of, "Yo, yo, yo, dawg. Der be dat foo' in mah crib." Woodroez and I were in a squad with one of those guys last night, and he sent me a private voice message of him rapping. Irritating.

God, I can't finish a single round lately. Got halfway through attacking the first base on the farm map and it just kicked me off saying that I should check my network connection. While I'm still connected to Live. Hell, right now I'm browsing the marketplace.

The disadvantage to not having full team chat means we cant get a full team of PA'ers together a la COD4, points about mouthbreathers notwithstanding. Though I guess they'd have to put some kind of clan thing in there for that to even work at all.
I wondered where that rapping came from and thank fuck I dropped that match

So i have to ask. For find all five. Are some of them just flat out of my reach now for example the preorder gun. Knowing that there will be an empty gun spot on my screen is more maddening than I thought. I did get the newsletter M60 and have been trying to sign into my stats to get that gun. Thought I did it last night but never gave me a redemption code *shrug* Are they all that great? Is my OCD just getting the better of me?

The M60's got pretty good stopping power, but I think the...mg36? probably dominates the stats pages for a reason.

The USAS 12 or whatever is probably the best semi-auto shotty though.

And sorry Dashui, had to work tonight. We did pretty okay earlier tonight, I think.

I've had mixed results with the USAS, so I just unlocked the SPAS12. Seems like a pretty consistent one-shot gib in close quarters.

The more I use the M60, the more I like it versus other MGs. Takes out choppers and jeeps real well. Not as good for headshots, but takes people out quick, and the higher damage means a single belt can pick a whole mess of attackers off the crates.

I really like the main mechanic in this game, the destruct-ability, but I really do not like the game-type, or the gold mechanic.

I just don't like all the maps with weapon emplacements in range of the crates.

And the destructability is good, but some materials work a little too well as cover until you finally bash through them. Like a wood shingle roof that keeps your JDAM from killing the sniper in the attic. Bullshit.

I hear you with the shotguns. The unlockable pumps have very attractive one-shot capability, but if someone were to ask me what do starting out as a demo, I would say sign up for the newsletter and spend your first unlock point on the AT Mine. The team default shotguns (except for the S20K) are adequate (I think), the USAS will be there if you get stuck on a team where you would have to use the S20K otherwise, and the mines will do a much better job at destroying armor than the rocket launcher.

The squad chat may have a lot to do with it, but I don't really have to shut off my headset often in Bad Company. Worst it gets is the occasional douche ranting about how bad the team sucks because he keeps standing in obvious sniper spots and getting knifed.

In Halo, it's always stupid kids saying "poop" and giggling like it's the funniest joke in the world.

In COD4, there's always some French Canadian and a whole roomful of drawling hicks telling him to STFU and speak 'Murrican.

Vegas 2 is full of frat boys who read Soldier of Fortune and use the word "sandbox" like a comma, talking nonstop about the sweet rifle they're gonna buy when their folks send more money.

I gotta say, so far the Battlefield crowd is cooler than I expected.

XM8c. I love it more than the UMP? Dunno. The AN94 is awesome for fast headshots(despite how bullshit they are in this game). MG3 blows. VSS = SVD with 2 more rounds. SPAS-15 sucks, USAS-12 is better.

I was pretty disappointed with the mg3...what little i used it in single player. DICE ought to kick it's power up at least a little bit, if they're going to do rebalancing.

I'm starting to think my next unlock will be the SVU. Does it have lower zoom than the others, like the QBU (Find All Five unlock)? Because that would really be right down my alley, since I tend to work a little more close range.

The zoom on the SVU seems roughly the same as the SV98 to me. It has a deep magazine and fast enough rate of fire to be used up close in a pinch, but I recommend switching to the pistol when on the move in a built-up area.

Definitely the right sniper rifle if you work at medium range. It's glorious if you can pull off headshots, and doesn't broadcast your position thanks to the suppressor.

That game has beautiful graphics, even by today's standards. And it's fun all right. It's different from a lot of other games - it really raised the bar for FPS games, but if you're getting into it now, the unlock system is horrible compared to newer games like COD4 or RB6V2. I still have 4 guns to unlock and it's predicting something like 100 days of play time to get the next two. It's absurd.

It requires a good computer. My GeForce 7600 and 2.5 gigs of RAM just aren't enough for that S.O.B. to run with everything on high. :| Hell, it still has random lag spikes.

That's why I gave up PC gaming. And Battlefield: Bad Company doesn't seem to be nearly as much fun as BF2 was. You can get BF2 and its expansions on the cheap though. If you've got a decent computer, it's a pretty nice game.

Edit: As someone who has only played the demo (I'm a PS3 owner, it seems like most of you all are Live users), what does the full game play like compared to BF2 on the PC? Is it better or worse? And most importantly, is the vehicle whoring worse? I can't understand why the driver of the tank operates the turret. It takes away teamwork and it's totally unfair to a squad of 5 infantry guys when some little kid just hops into a tank and destroys them all..

Is there an infantry only option, as well?

Depends on what you mean by whoring. None of them are really all that difficult to kill, so they've got to cover each other, and have some on-foot support. That's just teamwork.

Perhaps the squad of 5 infantry guys (limit is actually 4) shouldn't have all used the same class.

Use a tank in this game sometime and try to go on one of these rampages you've imagined. Those squishy, poor bloody infantry aren't as helpless as they appear.

I'm glad they gave the driver control of the main gun. Gets the armor moving instead of sitting around waiting for a second crewman. There's still room for teamwork. The heavy tanks, in particular, seem to survive a lot longer with a second pair of eyes scanning for targets and picking off infantry with the MG.

I wasn't too fond of the demo. I was disappointed to see that, even in the demo that is suppose to persuade me to buy the game, I was spawn-camped by two helicopters. Went on for 10 minutes, so I just deleted it from the 360.

But, the single player is supposed to be good, so I might consider it. Right now, I consider the multiplayer too boroken to be fun.
