I only played the single player demo and it was pretty boring. I don't know what exactly the problem was but shooting guys didn't feel fun or exciting at all. I'd say it's not even worth a rental to me.
The multi-player is a completely different experience. The demo has MP, right? You might want to give it a try.

Yeah there's multi too in the demo. I guess I should at least take a look at it.
Pretty fun multi still, but did the netcode get worse from the alpha? Or is it just because more people or playing? I've been in a few very small matches and the lag is out of control. They seem to of fixed some major bugs and seemed to make some even worse ones, I know you use to be able to switch weapons real quick in the alpha to skip the bolt animation on sniper rifles to fire faster.
So they take that out which is great, but now if I switch weapons during the animation (and sometimes just change weapons in general), to say fire my pistol at the guy right infront of me it automatically switches me back to the sniper rifle and I can't fire it until I switch back to the pistol then back to the rifle. Plus it randomly decides to skip reload animations and sometimes won't let me reload or fire at all.
It's still pretty fun, but I really hope they fix some of this stuff.
The multiplayer is fun but the biggest problem is that you get shot and killed before you even know where your attacker is coming from.
This is why a squad working together makes a great game. When you peg an enemy or zero your sights on him, even if you die they are pegged with a dot that reveals their location to your entire team. That's why you get squad assist bonuses.
Something that very slightly irks me is a great TV/good eye is a major advantage, as you can see enemy movement much better on bigger resolutions. I guess this is kind of true for most multiplayer fps's, but since you can kill someone with any weapon as long as they are as visible as a pixel on the screen its a little more drastic.. I played the beta for a whole month on something like an old 18 inch tv, when I got to my bigger one I absolutely wreaked havoc on everyone.
Tried the single player demo for 5 minutes. I went to the village to the point where the tank arrives, and I was instructed to get the RPG. I do so, but being damaged I quickly switched to the heal stick and heal myself. Upon switching back to the weapon I find the RPG was missing, nowhere to be found in the area (didn't help that a tank was around, hampering my search). I don't like the 'respawning' in singleplayer either. :v:
If there's one good thing, it's the sound. The guns are really loud!

The rpg counts as a tool, if you hit LB a 2nd time you'll pull it out. (1st is autoheal) just like RB once is the rifle and 2nd is the attached grenade launcher.
This game is really, really fun. Nothing like plowing into a building with a tank and charging in on foot, finding an interior door and shredding it with your light machine gun. I'll have to get this once it comes out, it'll be a good break from halo when I want some crazier larger battles.
Vehicle controls seem a bit odd, and I didn't get a chance to fly a chopper (some prick covert ops on the other team was camping the chopper spawn point with an artillery marker) but they are quite well balanced I think, you can switch seats in the vehicles (from tank driver/main gunner to machine gun turret for example) but there is a slight delay so you can't instantly swap to whatever weapon suits the threat (its surprisingly hard to kill ground pounding infantry with the tank's main gun).
Edit: ahahaha, I was charging into a building to destroy the gold crate and blew the door down with my shotgun...which penetrated the crappy wooden door and killed the guy standing behind it. (Kind of sad that this is considered an awesome feature, Day of Defeat had this for christsake it should be standard by now)
I just saw the commercial for this. I didn't even realize it was for Bad Company until the end, and thought it was some under the radar shooter because of the tongue-and-cheek humor in the commercial. Riding around the battlefield in a golf cart? Really?
Not that riding around the battlefield in a golf cart isn't awesome, but where did all this campy humor come from all of a sudden?

Hmm. I'm glad to see a lot of people are enjoying the demo--I wish I'd been one of them, tbh I played for about 20 minutes through the single player and couldn't escape the feeling that this was going to be the 360's "Haze," an FPS based more around attitude than mechanics. It just didn't feel fun. And I also probably should have taken a little more time to explore and ignored the mission objectives but I noticed in the three buildings I went through that their layouts were not architectually intuitive--I'd spend 60 seconds circling the building trying to find an aperature I could go through because there wasn't a door where I expected there to be one. I can't think of anywhere in the world where you'll find a free-standing single family residential structure that doesn't have a back door, so why the fuck am I jumping around trying to climb in through a back window?
I know it sounds like a small quibble, but I love CQB, and unintuitive structure architecture made CQB feel unnatural and disorienting. "Unnatural and disorienting" is not what I look for in a gameplay experience.
I think I'll download it again tonight and give MP a try. Enough folks here liked it that it might be worth a second look.

One of the selling points of this game is that UGL = door anywhere :P Heck in a MP game I just tracked a humvee through a town by charging through houses, blowing walls and doors out of my way while staying out of the humvees machine gun range because I was inside. Then I popped up and nailed it with another rifle launched grenade. Boom!
I have been playing the demo on PS3 all weekend. Demolition + Double Barrel unlock = Owns all things.
I took out two snipers with one rocket, jumped in a tank, ran over some soliders, took out an enemy tank, got slammed with some rockets, hopped out at the last second, ran through the dust cloud and double barreled two people before finally being taken out by artillery fire.
highly enjoyable and even the multiplayer is very cinematic.
That kinda sucks, i want to try some of the other unlocks.
Pick up random kits you find on the ground and you can try out the unlocks other people have. I chose the semi-auto sniper rifle, the AT mines, and the support mortar as my unlocks but I've also been able to try out the assault self-heal, the sniper bomb, the M95, the C4, and a few more of the weapons.
Hahahaaha. I just charged into a group of enemy infantry with my apc, popped smoke grenades, hopped out, and ran around crazy with a knife. 3 dog tags!
Anyone who didn't like the single player portion of the demo should really check out the multiplayer, top notch stuff and it makes for some intense battles.
I could be wrong but does the game not allow you to communicate with people outside your squad? Or have I just been in a ton of matches filled with mutes lately?
Because while the idea of squads is cool the execution is kind of stupid because squads never move together, it is always a matter of who is close by.
Or I could just be wrong.
Anyway those battles where you hold off constant assault without giving up a single gold crate are pretty sweet.
Its free-talk with your entire team, I was in a game last night that was only 4v4. My squadmate was a mute but I was chatting with my two allies who were in another squad.
The desire for all talk to scream out "OH YEAH" as you bust into a gold crate room through the wall is high though. God I love blowing my way through buildings rather than taking my time to walk around.
The multiplayer might actually sell me this game. I don't buy a lot of games anymore (lack of moneys), but if I can convince any of my buddies to pick it up it'll be a blast.

If multiplayer doesn't sell you on a BF game then something's wrong, assuming it's good that is. I got the demo myself yesterday and was a bit surprised at the single player bit (I never did try the other console BF game). As for the overall feel of the game, after the first couple rounds I was sold then after a few more I'm a bit iffy. I'm sure the games will change as people learn the maps and such but some of the rounds were fairly quiet. There doesn't seem to be the opportunity for organization like in BF2/142 which was one aspect I really enjoyed.
The netcode seems done really well, I think I was playing a 24 player game with no noticeable lag. Are these still user hosted games? Because that's a fair number of people for 1 person to be hosting. The destructible environments are a step in the right direction. Yes they're all a pre-rendered destructible but it's cool to notice you're at the end of the map while defending and having all these skeletal structures sitting around a bunch of craters.
My other gripe is that I really wish I was using a mouse to aim. Something seems too loose about aiming and I find it really hard to hit anyone not too close. I have played a decent amount of CoD so I know it can feel right but maybe it'll just take some time to get used to it.

I am not a complete battlefield junkie, but I have enjoyed the other games. I played a LOT of bf2 for a while, and here are my thoughts on the franchise and then specifically the new one:
franchise:
-For whatever reason I struggle to WANT to play these games. I will have them sitting around, and know that when I play them I have a blast, but there is something missing about the NEED IT NOW that isn't there.
-You are going to have games that make you want to uninstall / sell the game. Some rounds you get a dogshit team and it's super frustrating. It takes time to develop a tolerance and I think this is the main reason these games don't get more attention.
-The combat doesn't feel like you're actually hitting anybody. The guns sounds great, but in all the BF games I've played I've never felt like I'm really hitting the other guy (I'm an old school soldier of fortune 2 junkie and I still think that game did this best). That said, the weapons are always fun.
-There are often balance issues on release that can make the games awful until patch time (which EA blows at).
-Since BF2 there has been an excellent rank system that I thoroughly enjoy.
BF:BC
-When I boot this game up I very much enjoy the experience. The opening music is awesome and it feels like they have a good theme working so far.
-I haven't had a whole lot of GOD DAMN MY TEAM SUCKS THIS BLOWS games, but I've been close. I think partly this is because I have to only cover 2 boxes at a time, and I think I can make a difference at that. With one or two friends in the game I think we could very much hold a team together.
-The guns still feel a little like pea shooters, but I've noticed that especially in close quarters combat it's very tight. The little target blinking when you hit a guy is really only needed at distance.
-The unlocks are awesome, like the sniper goggles. I love it and hope all of them have this depth and usefulness.
-The balance issues are fair right now. The camps are well thought out with static defenses, and the choppers aren't rape city anymore. I can't say for sure about all the maps but right now the game feels pretty good.
-I don't know how much stat tracking I can do with xbl, but the dogtags are a blast to collect. I really hope there are some cool features about different unlocks because that will hopefully keep the game alive for a while.
After playing pretty much all day and getting rank 4, I'm pretty positive I'm getting this next week. It is not for everybody but I will absolutely looking for people to party with. I'll be around in a little bit, look me up let's blast people.
Man, i just unlocked M16, badass, makes me wonder why everyone goes with the XM8.
50 round clip. The bars show the m16 as being more accurate but thats bullshit from what I've seen. Might be a bug in the demo. The vehicles are fun but fucking horrible controls though. I wish they had the cannon operated by one person and the driver be another person. I like flying the chopper but again the controls are shitty.
I could never live with the XM8, there is no way i will ever shoot as well with it as the M16, 9 shots fired at the head / neck in 2-3 round bursts; i don't need your motherfucking sniper. 8-)

I mean I wouldn't say it's revolutionary or anything but the urban combat can get pretty goddamned awesome.
Don't lie to me now.

According to wiki, yes. But it requires 140 million(!) points or so. Thus 4 is the practical cap for the demo.

I have to say, it looks good. I especially noticed the character texture work in the single player cinematics.
